Pee-Wee Herman and his friends have wacky, imaginative fun in his unique playhouse.
Only two episodes, plus the Christmas at Pee Wee's Playhouse (1988), were created for the third season, due to both Paul Reubens working on Big Top Pee-wee (1988) and production being halted by the strike caused by the Writers Guild of America in 1988. John Paragon wrote both episodes for this season, and together with Reubens, wrote the Christmas special.

When the fourth season premiered, it featured the same title sequence as the second (and third) season. But when the show re-aired on TV years later and its episodes released on VHS and then DVD, Blu-Ray and on Netflix, all fourth season episodes used the fifth season title sequence.
