Ellen Ripley is rescued by a deep salvage team after being hypersleep for 57 years. The moon that the Nostromo visited has been colonized, but contact is lost. This time, colonial marines have impressive firepower, but will that be enough?
James Horner's schedule only allowed for him to work on the film for 6 weeks. He arrived in London to perform his duties, only to find that they were still shooting, much less editing. He sat around for 3 weeks before being able to get started.
Salvage Team Leader:
Bio-readouts are all in the green, looks like she's alive. Well, there goes our salvage, guys.
Although the marines' scanners can pinpoint individual aliens through walls, they (inexplicably) cannot tell if those aliens are on the same level, above, or below the marines. Even if the scanners were only able to operate in two dimensions, simply turning the scanner 90 degrees would make their vertical position obvious, and yet none of the characters does this. The aliens' ability to surprise and slaughter the marines half way through the film hinges entirely on this artificial limitation.
The ALIENS title forms slowly during the opening credits. The full title isn't seen until the opening credits are finished, and the "I" illuminates brightly.
