Kimi Katkar was offered the role opposite Anil Kapoor, but did not have the required dates. Richa Sharma was signed for the role. When Smita Patil who had been signed for the lead role got pregnant, Anil lobbied for Shabana Azmi. Raj Babbar however convinced the producers to rope in Rekha. Anil stated he had a massive crush on Rekha during his struggling days. When Rekha signed the film, his dream of working with her was fulfilled. fifteen years later she would play the romantic lead opposite him in Bulandi
When the film was offered to Anil Kapoor initially he was not interested. His film sensibility was different at that point. He considered himself a thinking actor and wanted to do quality cinema. The makers called Anil, game him a narration and explained how as an actor he needed to films with great commercial potential. Anil reluctantly agreed and ended up having a lot of fun.
This film was director B. Gopal and producer D. Rama Naidu's remake of their own Telugu film "Prathidwani" (1986).
Radha Pyar De. This was a parody medley based on Bappi Lahiri's hits from other films including "De De Pyar De" ("Sharaabi", 1984), "Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom Baba" ("Kasam Paida Karnewale Ki", 1984) and "Taki O Taki" ("Himmatwala", 1983).
The intro of Kaalia's Title Music was sampled from Space ( Didier Marouani aka Ecama) song "Prison" released in 1977 . The same tune can be heard in the intro of the song "Love In The Rain" from Insaaf Ki Awaaz. The intro of the song "Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan" from Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan also has the same tune. Then once again at 0:10 in the song "Aakhir Tumhe Aana Hain" from Yalgaar. The back ground music of Pehla Nasha (1993) also had a similar tune. The part when Deepak Tijori takes Raveena Tandon's old stocking from the garbage can. The same tune was heard in a remix titled "Akhir Tumhe Aana Hai (Bueenos Aires Mixx)" from the album Bom Bass. It was remixed by Amit and San J of The X Zecutive. Daft Punk song "Contact" at 1:28 also has the same sound.
