A resourceful American orphan living in rural Australia finds himself caught up in the magic of a local Aboriginal myth that might be more real than anyone knows.
The geography of the film is entirely fictional, with the town scenes set in Woods Point (set in the highlands of Victoria) and the scenes with the aboriginals set in a coastal environment. The nearest coast to Woods Point is three hours by road, and does have the mangroves seen in the film.

The water pumps used to drain the waterhole would not work as the waterhole is the lowest point in the landscape and the water would merely drain back in.
