After the second season, a spin-off was planned titled "City Court". The intention was to follow the Jump Street cases through the court system. A two-hour pilot was planned, in which Tom Hanson is put on trial for murder. But, because of the 1988 writers' strike, the series was never produced. The storyline featuring Hanson's murder trial was later used for the third season finale.

Throughout the first season Hanson repeatedly says "tail" when his mouth obviously says "ass." This was a post-production change in response to network censorship, who thought the word "ass" was inappropriate.
In its original broadcast the word "Suck" was dubbed with "Stink" or "Spit". Its DVD release has kept this audio track
