Set decades after Captain Kirk's five-year mission, a new generation of Starfleet officers set off in a new Enterprise on their own mission to go where no one has gone before.
Although informally called "Will" throughout the series, Commander William T. Riker is addressed by Counselor Deanna Troi as "Bill" in several episodes during the first season.
Shut up, Wesley!
Although the Federation and Starfleet use the metric system, there are numerous occasions when the ship's personnel refer to distances and capacities in obsolete units such as feet, miles, pounds, etcetera.
As with the original "Star Trek" (1966) series, each episode begins with the captain reciting the famous opening monologue, "Space, the final frontier...." In recognition of changes in language conventions and style, the conclusion of the monologue has been altered. Whereas the original series ended with "where no MAN has gone before," TNG uses "where no ONE has gone before."
