Gene Roddenberry's original scripts for the pilot, "Encounter at Farpoint", did not include any scenes set in the Enterprise's engine room. When he learned that Paramount Pictures was therefore refusing to pay to build an engine room set, he revised the scripts to include the engine room.
Space... The final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission, to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before.
Whenever the video signal is being lost, instead of pixelating, as a digital signal would, the picture shows analog "snow," which would be unheard of by the era.
"Descent, Part 1" is the only episode of the series to show the episode credits during the teaser.
The first and last episodes were originally broadcast as two-hour TV-movies, and were later re-edited into two one-hour episodes each. Both edits involved removing some scenes from each episode.
