The heroic G.I. Joe action force must oppose the ruthless Cobra organization that has secretly allied with a subterranean reptilian people who were their founders.
This movie was intended to have a theatrical release. However, the Transformers and My Little Pony movies (both released in the summer of 1986) both underperformed in theaters. This lead to the decision of having the G.I. Joe Movie get a direct-to-video release instead. Hasbro was also planning to make a movie for Jem and the Hollograms (1985), but the financial failures of the two aforementioned films caused them to cancel the film altogether.
Cobra, retreat! Retreat!
After Duke is injured by Serpentor's snake javelin, Scarlett is seen holding his upper body up while he is tended to by Doc, holding his head in her hands. Although she is wearing gloves, part of her glove is missing, revealing a bare hand, but her glove is intact in the next shot.
In the Maverick Region 2 DVD release of G.I. Joe: The Movie (not Action Force), the movie begins with the original audio (the good guys are called GI Joe, and their battle cry is "Yo Joe!"). However, half way through the movie (around when Sgt Slaughter's team infiltrate Cobra Island), the video quality changes to something resembling a VHS copy and any mention of GI Joe becomes Action Force, and the battle cry "Full Force!" is used.
