But that of course only refers to full feature film as later German comedian Vicco von Bülow aka Loriot has been one the defining comedic forces on German television for a long time when "Ödipussi" was made. This film is almost already 30 years old, but it still makes me sad that basically the entire cast is dead by now, but I guess that comes when 90% of cast members are over 60 already, including Loriot himself. The film runs for under 90 minutes and is about a man, who despite his progressed age, still lives with his mother. Complications ensue when he meets a woman and falls in love. But the mother's jealousy is really just a very minor part and not a defining plot point.
Loriot is certainly a very unique brand of comedy and I can imagine that not too many people outside Germany will understand or even appreciate his take on comedy. It is basically the perfect example of German situational comedy in terms of both actions and words. Loriot oozes creativity as always as he is not only the star in here, but also the writer and director. All the other actors play their parts very well, including his long-time collaborator Evelyn Hamann, even if they are mostly just vehicles for Loriot's humor. I guess sit is very difficult to appropriately translate the dialogs and comedy in here in a way that makes it accessible also for non-German speaking audiences. But if you manage to understand Loriot, then you are in for a treat. There is a reason why he has been considered one of Germany's most creative entertainers for many decades now. I recommend "Ödipussi".
