Christopher Reeve played the character in Superman I-IV (1978-1987), while George Newbern played him in )"Justice League" (2001)_, (Reeve was also influenced by Cary Grant for his role in His Girl Friday (1940), of which this film is a remake). Burt Reynolds was considered for the title role in Superman (1978), while Ned Beatty co-starred with Reeve in that film as Otis, Lex Luthor's henchman.
