TV Series | TV-PG | | Action, Adventure, Crime
At a Los Angeles beach, a team of lifeguards led by Lieutenant Mitch Buchannon save lives, deal with personal dramas, fight crime and participate in over the top adventures on a daily basis.
Baywatch was the brainchild of producer Gregory J. Bonann. He was a lifeguard who often worked with Michael Newman and came up with the series idea about lifeguards based on his experiences. Gregory pitched the idea around Hollywood for years without success until his sister married TV writer Douglas Schwartz. Douglas later teamed with Michael Berk and sold Gregory's idea to NBC.
Despite working in the sun for hours daily, some characters and supporting demonstrate no sign of tanning. Since they aren't shown wearing heavy clothing and they aren't donning hats, this is not possible.
For its HD release, the entire show was reframed to 1,78:1. In addition, many songs used in the original broadcast version were replaced. Also, some scenes deemed too sexual were reedited or removed (e.g. the topless scenes in the pilot).
