Two former Texas Rangers renew their spirit of adventure as they and several other residents of a small Texas town join a cattle drive to the Montana Territory.
During the storm, that hits early into the cattle drive, the herd of cows are struck by lightning, which is then conducted from cow to cow by means of the tips of their horns. This is a real phenomenon, known as "St. Elmo's Fire".

The town Ogallala is spelled Ogalalla and Ogallala on different signs. The first spelling is the correct one.
Danny Glover, Robert Urich, Frederic Forrest, and Anjelica Huston are credited in every episode, even though Huston does not appear until the third episode, Forrest does not appear at all in the third episode, and Glover and Urich do not appear in the final episode.
The 2008 DVD/Blu-Ray release was cropped to a 16:9 aspect ratio, and enhanced for viewing on widescreen televisions. These versions were also remastered, and the picture quality is superior to the original DVD release.
