While nobody should be looking to cartoon TV shows — the same medium behind the suggestion that a sea sponge could wear slacks — for scientific accuracy, we demand more from The Simpsons. After all, the show has been on for decades at this point, and has been a reliable source of information on topics ranging from nuclear energy to the lives of former presidents.
But for those fans who grew up with The Simpsons, it may be downright shocking to learn that one of its key geoscientific lessons was total bullshit.
In Season Six’s “Bart vs. Australia,” Lisa informs her brother that, due to the Coriolis effect caused by the rotation of the Earth, all toilets located below the equator flush clockwise. This prompts Bart to check on her theory with a hugely expensive collect call down under, which then sparks an international incident.

Hank Azaria can see the handwriting on Mrs. Krabappel’s chalkboard. “I imagine that soon enough, artificial intelligence will be able to recreate the sounds of the more than 100 voices I created for characters on The Simpsons over almost four decades,” he writes in an op/ed in today’s New York Times. But that doesn’t mean he has to like it.
“It seems just plain wrong to steal my likeness or sound,” Azaria argues, “or anyone else’s.”
But the longtime Simpsons voice actor believes he has a more compelling argument for why Fox shouldn’t replace him with artificial intelligence just yet — it won’t be as good. “I’d like to think that no matter how much an A.I. version of Moe or Snake or Chief Wiggum will sound like my voice, something will still be missing — the humanness,” he explains. “There’s so much...

The Simpsons, at least in its “Golden Age,” has never been known for its timely comedy. You might be able to date old episodes by their celebrity guest stars, but generally, they stuck to evergreen topics.
It’s probably for the best for the show’s greater legacy that we never had to see Homer weigh in on Jersey Shore. But that doesn’t mean that The Simpsons is a wholly unpolitical show. In an episode that aired in 1996 but feels plenty relevant now, Springfield tackled the issue of illegal immigration. The episode in question ended with the deportation of a beloved character — the only one to suffer such a fate.
The episode, the 23rd of the seventh season, is titled Much Apu About Nothing, giving you a strong hint that Apu isn’t the immigrant in question, since that would be the opposite of suspense. Apu does confess to being in the country illegally,...

Fox Corp. is planning on launching a new subscription-based streaming service by the end of 2025, company executives revealed on their earnings call on Tuesday morning.
CEO Lachlan Murdoch said the service will be priced “relatively low” and offer “existing content and existing brands.” The yet-to-be-named platform will provide a “holistic” offering of Fox programming, he added, including sports, TV shows and news.
Murdoch did not offer an exact launch date for the new service, but said it will be aimed at reaching viewers who do not typically pay for cable and other pay TV services. Fox, Murdoch noted, will be targeting a “large population outside the cable bundle.”
Shows currently airing on Fox include long-running series like “Hell’s Kitchen” and “The Simpsons,” as well as Denis Leary’s new show “Going Dutch.”

Now, in all fairness to any staunch capitalists outraged by that headline, it’s hard to determine Homer Simpson’s exact political ideology given his tendency to misspeak. For instance, he probably meant to say, “Why can’t we have no kids and three money?”
Like most long-running satirical comedy shows, The Simpsons can be a bit all over the place when it comes to its political leanings. Sometimes the show portrays the Republican party as plainly and proudly evil, other times it says the Democrats can’t govern, but more, often than not, it’s aiming at both sides of the aisle and attacking the American political system as a whole — but don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos.
However, for all its topical condemnations of the 1990s most prominent politicians, there has been one political issue for which The Simpsons leaves no gray area. Homer Simpson is a card-carrying,...

Everyone knows the sound of Kathleen Turner’s voice.
Her sexy, smoky rasp most famously gave life to Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and although that was her first animated role, it definitely wouldn’t be her last. A few years later, she voiced Malibu Stacy creator Stacy Lovell on The Simpsons. A few years after that, she became the voice of Hank Hill’s boss’ wife, Liz Strickland, on King of the Hill, who famously tried to seduce Hank. And her voice career continues today with a recent guest spot on Rick and Morty and with the upcoming animated film Animal Farm, based on the famous George Orwell novel.
It was her time on King of the Hill that we set out to talk about during a recent phone interview, but that inevitably led to a discussion about her voice career as a whole and how that...

In a classic episode of "The Simpsons," routine ne'er do well and lovestruck youngster Bart Simpson can't figure out why he's not boyfriend material. "Is it my overbite, the fact that I've been wearing the same clothes day in and day out for the past five years?" Of course, now it's been a bit more than five years given that "The Simpsons" is the longest-running primetime scripted series ever. In fact, the matter of a routine wardrobe stretches across all long-running animated characters, literally stitching their outfits into their iconic look. Just like Lisa Simpson's dress that's shaped like a badminton shuttlecock or Peter Griffin's white shirt and green trousers combo, all of these iconic characters wear the same thing over and over again. But why is that the case? The answer is far more sensible than you think and is a trick that stretches back to some...

There is some disappointing news for Bob’s Burgers fans. The winter break is going to be much longer than we’d like.
Bob’s Burgers isn’t back in February 2025. Nor will it return in March or even April 2025. Fox is putting the series on a break, as there are just too many animated comedies now to fit into one night of programming.
This isn’t bad for Bob’s Burgers. It doesn’t mean the series will be canceled or is performing badly. It’s just that there isn’t enough space. The show isn’t the only one taking a break.
Why isn’t Bob’s Burgers coming back after the Super Bowl?
Bob’s Burgers and The Simpsons will continue to take some time off after the Super Bowl, according to TVLine. Family Guy season 23 will premiere on Sundays and kick off the night, and that will be followed by Grimsburg season 2. Then in the 9 p.

The 1990s saw Hollywood studios make a rush to 3D animation in the wake of Toy Story. But in the process, it abandoned decades of hand drawn artistry.
When Ron Clements and John Musker got the greenlight to make The Princess And The Frog at Walt Disney Animation Studios, they faced a problem.
Appreciating some hand-drawn animation had been done for the slightly earlier Disney production, Enchanted, remarkably Disney had to outsource those segments as it didn’t have the internal resources to bring them to life. When it then decided to attempt a hand drawn animated film for the first time in over a decade, the apparatus to do so was all but gone.
“They had gotten rid of many of the machines, even the animation desk that had lightboards in them,” co-director John Musker told me on the press tour for The Princess And The Frog in 2009. “They...

In a January 29 episode of Stephen King-themed podcast "The Kingcast," the horror author joined hosts Eric Vespe and Scott Wampler to discuss the latest King movie adaptation -- "Longlegs" director Osgood Perkins' "The Monkey" -- among many other things. Since King has written so many books that his work spans several decades, his fellow creators and other notable people occasionally drop fun little homages to his work. When King was asked to name the most surprising Stephen King Easter egg that he's ever encountered in the wild, the writer was able to recall one that truly managed to catch him unawares.
"I found out that there was a pro hockey goalie named Curtis Joseph, who called himself 'Cujo'. And he wore a mask that had a dog face on it. That's really resonant."

Family Guy will take over The Simpsons’ timeslot in February 2025. What does that mean for The Simpsons season 36. Fox has an update.
When Fox announced the premiere date for Family Guy season 23, it wasn’t the date that stuck out. For many, it was the time. You see, the animated comedy series is going to take over the first timeslot of Sunday night, which has been held by The Simpsons for the longest time.
Fans of The Simpsons want to know what this means for the return of its series. Well, there is a return date, and it’s not too long. The wait could turn out to be a good thing.

"The Simpsons" writers may have predicted some pretty improbably future events, but even they couldn't have anticipated some guest appearances that didn't just age poorly, but festered within the cracks of one of the most essential and influential television shows ever made. Throughout its 36 seasons, 781 episodes, and one feature-length film, there have been notable guest star appearances that may have been hilarious at the time, but became anything but.
In addition to the various "Simpsons" jokes that have aged poorly, some cameos have become truly uncomfortable, and now land with all the comedic impact of a fingernail extraction. After reviewing the series, here are the worst cameos in the show's history. These appearances remind us that convicted felons, despised public figures, and unsuccessful sports icons alike have made a stop in Springfield, hoping for a memorable visit that ultimately became forever tainted due to real-life events. In some cases, where a "D'oh!

Not every early 2000s Simpsons parody would make sense to audiences today, but thanks to Judge Judy’s stubborn refusal to stop making television shows, Judge Constance Harm is still culturally relevant. Since 2001, the overly stern magistrate, based on the daytime TV star, has been voiced by Malcolm in the Middle star Jane Kaczmarek.
When The Simpsons finally returns in March, the mid-season premiere (in which Bart gets involved with “celebrity DJ-ing”) will reportedly guest star My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom and Kaczmarek, implying that Judge Harm will show up at some point.
Oddy enough, her first appearance on The Simpsons was in an episode that was inspired by real-world events, even beyond the existence of Judge Judy. Season 13’s “The Parent Rap” begins with Bart and Milhouse being arrested for stealing Chief Wiggum’s squad car. While Milhouse gets the lenient Judge Snyder in court, midway through Bart’s case,...

Love those cellys when NHL players get animated after scoring a goal? Well, now you’re in for a treat.
In two days, the league is launching a weekly youth-centric animated program that will recap a recent game and air on Saturdays on NHL Network in the U.S., on Sportsnet in Canada and globally on the NHL YouTube channel, it was announced Thursday.
The first episode will feature a version of the Canucks’ 2-1 victory over Alex Ovechkin’s Washington Capitals on Jan. 25, a game that featured two goals from standout Vancouver defenseman Quinn Hughes.
The 30-minute NHL Hockeyverse Matchup of the Week will “bring viewers into an animated world where NHL player avatars, powered by NHL Edge Positional Data, will create a visualization of the on-ice action with stunning realism and dynamic movements,” the league said in a news release.

Despite what his teachers, grades and standardized test scores may say, Bart Simpson is, in fact, a genius — just don’t ask him to identify any paradoxes.
Matt Groening’s established canon for his cartoon masterpiece The Simpsons includes the infamous “Simpson Gene,” a devious bit of DNA that causes all the male members of the Simpsons clan to be lazy, low-intelligence underachievers. This little bit of bloodwork world-building came up in the Season Nine episode “Lisa the Simpson” as a slightly ham-fisted explanation for why the Simpson family’s allegedly most precocious and pretentious second-grader would wield such an advanced vocabulary when her brother and father struggle with multi-syllabic words on a daily basis.
But for all of Lisa’s book smarts, in the Simpson family’s 35 years on television, she has failed to surpass her older brother in actually applying her intellect to more than just a moralizing...

During an interview with ScreenRant, "Young Sheldon" star Raegan Revord -- who played Missy Cooper on the "Big Bang Theory" prequel-spinoff series -- was asked to look back at the show's seven season run and think if there'd been any missed opportunities along the way. Upon doing so, she said that the one big thing she wished the show had done was include more flashbacks.
"I honestly have always wanted to see flashbacks with Mary and George [Cooper] whenever they were younger," Revord explained. "It was whenever Mary had Sheldon and Missy that she became more of the religious kind of mom, but whenever she had Georgie, she was still kind of rebellious. I think it would be fun to see that. We haven't really ever seen that side of her, and I think seeing them younger and more carefree, almost, would be a lot of fun."

The iconic Season Eight Simpsons episode “The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie” show was more than just inspired by on true events — it featured the facsimiles of real writers.
Most fans of The Simpsons know that the show’s most meta episode was one giant send-up of the state of critical discourse and network notes about The Simpsons nearly a decade into its run. Simpsons legend David X. Cohen conceived “The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie” show as a window from which the audience could see what it’s like to work on a hit show that’s already several seasons deep and, in the estimation of especially critical fans and reviewers, nearing the end of its exceptional run.

The end is in sight for The Conners.
ABC has set a March 26 premiere date for the comedy’s seventh and final season. The Conners is ending with an abbreviated, six-episode run; ABC announced the final season in May 2024.
The show will take up its usual 8 p.m. Wednesday time period for the final episodes. That spot’s current occupant, Shifting Gears, is scheduled to conclude its first season on March 19.
Season seven will bring the series to a total of 112 episodes, an increasingly rare accomplishment for a network comedy series. Only one other current live-action broadcast comedy — CBS’ The Neighborhood — has more than 100 episodes to its name. (Fox’s animated stalwarts The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers are also long past that mark.)
The Conners — a spinoff of ABC’s 2018 Roseanne revival that was canceled after one season following racist remarks by star Roseanne Barr — has been a solid performer throughout its run.

In the wake of the recent passing of beloved director/part-time weatherman David Lynch, it's worth remembering that one of his best talents was his acting. He always nailed it in his live-action performances, be it as Gordon Cole in "Twin Peaks" or as John Ford in "The Fabelmans," but he brought his A-game to voice acting, too. Case in point: The 2016, season 15 episode of "Family Guy," "How the Griffins Stole Christmas." Lynch doesn't play a major role, but he does pop up in a cutaway that asks the question, "What if instead of Santa Clause coming down the chimney, it was David Lynch? The result is something that any "Twin Peaks" fan can surely appreciate:
What's nice about this cutaway is that the writers of it clearly seem to have actually watched Lynch's work and can make specific jokes about it. On social media, you'll often see people attempt...

"The Simpsons" is arguably the greatest animated series in history. Similarly, "Cheers" is almost certainly one of the greatest live-action sitcoms of all time. But what would happen if these two worlds met? That question was answered briefly (and hilariously) once in 1994 when Homer Simpsons stumbled into the most famous bar in TV history. Yet, during his trek there, a certain voice was notably absent from the proceedings -- namely, that of Kelsey Grammer, who has played Sideshow Bob since the earliest days of "The Simpsons."
Grammer, of course, also played Frasier Crane on "Cheers" before eventually headlining the very successful spin-off "Frasier." Nevertheless, he didn't lend his voice to the crossover in question. It happened during the episode "Fear of Flying," which aired as part of "The Simpsons" season 6. The main plot of the episodes involves Homer being awarded...

The Big Bang Theory finished 2024 as the year’s “most-binged title” in streaming, according to a new report from Nielsen.
The sitcom averaged 265.5 episodes per viewer on Max, the measurement firm said, or 29.1 billion minutes of total viewing. The long-running former CBS series has 281 total episodes available for streaming.
Coming in at No. 7 overall among this year’s top streaming titles, Big Bang saw 58% of its watch time accounted for by adults 18 to 49.
The “average episodes per viewer” stat refers to the amount of time (with episodes lasting at least 20 minutes each) spent viewing the show. It does not indicate the number of unique episodes seen by each viewer.
Nielsen said it compiled the “most-binged” ranking by evaluating streaming titles with libraries of at least 50 episodes. It counted only the series whose viewers had spent at least one episode’s worth of time (20 minutes) with the show.

Streaming gets attention for buzzy originals, but viewing of classics accounts for a large chunk of the total audience.
Nielsen acknowledged as much Monday by including shoutouts to two legacy titles, Little House on the Prairie and Gunsmoke, in its recap of 2024 viewing.
Little House racked up 13.3 billion minutes of viewing time last year, while Gunsmoke collected 10.23 billion minutes. In subscription streaming, Little House is available on Peacock, while Gunsmoke is on both Peacock and Paramount+. Homer Simpson is a man of many talents: Downing countless Duff beers at Moe’s Tavern night after night without so much as a hangover. Slacking off at work while never truly losing his job. Dumping so much pig crap into Lake Springfield that the Epa encased the entire town in a glass dome, turning it into essentially a giant snow globe.
A deep knowledge of movie trivia, however, cannot be counted among these skills, as Simpsons fans — who apparently include the overlords at IMDb — discovered during Season Eight’s “The Springfield Files.”
“I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to speed around the city, keeping its speed over 50, and if its speed dropped, the bus would explode!” Homer told Lenny and Karl of his ploy to get out of work using loops of old security footage during the 1997 episode. “I think it was called The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down.

From April 4 to May 23, 2001, Comedy Central ran eight episodes of a 30-minute sitcom called "That's My Bush!," a sendup of the then-active George W. Bush administration. The premise of the show was as broad as possible. George W. Bush (Timothy Bottoms) was in the White House, but his life was more akin to that of an old-fashioned, 1980s-era workplace sitcom than that of a sitting president. There was a noisy, obnoxious laugh track paired with bright, even TV lighting, making the show look deliberately old-fashioned and artificial. Kurt Fuller played the buttoned-down killjoy Karl Rove, while Carrie Quinn Dolin played Laura Bush.
More than being a spoof of the Bush administration, however (and there was plenty to spoof), "That's My Bush!" was a satire of all-American sitcoms. Show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker (of "South Park" fame) merely used the White House as a backdrop to mock dated sitcom...

In the "The Simpsons" episode "Alone Again, Natura-Diddly", the Simpsons discover a new outdoor auto racing track inside their favorite nature preserve and decide to stay and watch a race or two. Indeed, many recognizable characters are there, including Ned Flanders (Harry Shearer) and his wife Maude (Marcia Mitzman Gaven), who sit in the back row. In between races, cheerleaders take to the track and use a t-shirt cannon to fire free clothing into the stands. Tragically, one of the errant t-shirts strikes Maude in the chest, throwing her over the back railing of the stadium. She plunges to her death, landing in the parking lot below.
The rest of the episode follows Ned's grieving process as he mourns the loss of his wife. Ned, perhaps shockingly, even finds his faith in God shaken over the tragedy; ordinarily, Ned is ultra-Christian.

Jennifer Tilly, like many professionals, began acting in high school, having been bitten by the theater bug as a teen. Her mother, a former stage actress herself, helped Jennifer (as well as her younger sister Meg) pursue walk-on roles and supporting parts in various Hollywood TV shows, and Tilly made her TV debut on an episode of the sitcom "Oh Madeline" in 1983. In 1984, she secured a regular role on the obscure comedy series "Shaping Up," which starred Leslie Nielsen as a grumpy health club owner. Tilly appeared in all five episodes. Her real big break came that same year, as she secured a recurring role on the hit cop show "Hill Street Blues," appearing in six episodes.
Tilly would spend the next few years acting in guest spots on hit shows like "Moonlighting," "Cheers," and "Remington Steel." She would also make a move into cinemas, appearing in multiple studio comedies and thrillers.

Stephen King's authorial brand might be the farthest from romance writing, but the king of horror has written about romance to great effect. One of King's most gutwrenching works, "Lisey's Story," is inspired by deeply personal circumstances. It revolves around the titular Lisey who mourns the death of her husband while revisiting their intense, complex relationship. This is a story about a dead writer who is only valued by the world for his literary contributions, with Lisey being the only person capable of piecing together the complete picture of the man he was. Although a romance, the book ventures into the dark, surreal recesses of the psyche, along with the real threat of parasocial relationships taken a step too far.
The romance element in King's novels is not always this twisted or bittersweet in flavor. In fact, "11/22/63" — a quasi-historical time-travel fantasy that takes some wild swings — presents its central...

The Simpsons is such a dense, layered comedy that sometimes the jokes even go over the writers’ heads, but nothing goes higher than Arnie Pye.
Due to Matt Groening’s proclivity for hiring Harvard nerds who want nothing more than to spend their lives writing esoteric jokes about 18th century English prime ministers and outdated zoological theories, the Golden Age of The Simpsons is full of arcane humor that the non-Ivy League layman may not understand or even recognize as a gag on the first viewing. Legendary Simpsons writer, producer and showrunner Josh Weinstein is one such layman, being a Stanford alumnus (You’re going to Stanford!), and, as such, even he doesn’t get all the jokes that his more prestigiously educated colleagues wrote.
Weinstein recently admitted to his Twitter following that it took him some time to realize the joke about Springfield’s Channel 6 News helicopter reporter Arnie...

They don’t make ‘em like Love American Style anymore, the ‘70s anthology show that featured out-of-work stars in one-off stories based on the theme of romance. The comedy lasted five seasons but didn’t make much of an impact — unless you count the episode, “Love and the Television Set.” Teenage Ronny Howard, known to viewers as The Andy Griffith Show’s Opie, played a ‘50s kid looking for love. That half-hour episode became the de facto pilot for Happy Days, a show whose 11 seasons more than doubled the run of Love, American Style.

Season 3 of Invincible is less than two weeks away and we know a few things for certain. First, Mark Grayson (Invincible himself) will have his blue and black suit. Comic book fans know this spells disaster for Mark. Second, the third season won’t be split into two parts like its predecessor was - it's good that this won’t happen again as the break in season 2 ruined the momentum. Lastly, there will be unintroduced characters. Among them are Powerplex, Dropkick, and, Fightmaster.
With the new characters came new voice actors. In a recent social media post, Skybound introduced the voice actors playing some of the new heroes and villains who’ll appear in Invincible season 3. Rather than just say who they are, I’ll give you a brief introduction of the character they’re playing without spoilers. Let’s begin.

Finally, we know when Family Guy will be coming back with Season 23! Find out the premiere date!
It's been a longer wait than usual for fans of Family Guy. The wild Fox animated series wrapped up Season 22 in April 2024, but released a pair of specials in late 2024 on Hulu. The delay appeared to be due to creator Seth McFarlane's busy schedule and Fox wanting to save a big premiere for midseason.
But now we know when Season 23 is coming! As reported by TVLine, Family Guy will return to the Sunday "Animation Domination" lineup on Feb. 16 at 8/7c. This marks the first time in almost 30 years that The Simpsons will not be airing at that time slot on Sundays.
Instead, The Simpsons will take a few weeks off before returning with the rest of Season 36 on March 30. As for the rest of the new Sunday lineup, following Family Guy will be the season 2 premiere of Grimsburg,...

This post contains spoilers for season 2, episode 2 of "Severance."
After ending its first season on a heart-thumping cliffhanger, "Severance" has returned to delve deeper into Lumon's dark web of conspiracies. While the latest season picks things up from the perspectives of the innies (who experience the unsettling aftermath of their revolt), episode 2 focuses on the outies, and how they are dealing with the incident that concluded season 1 of the show. While outie Dylan (Zach Cherry) struggles to get a new job due to his severed status, outie Irving (John Turturro) makes a covert payphone call while being tailed by outie Burt (Christopher Walken). Meanwhile, Helena Eagan (Britt Lower) is seen scrambling to salvage Lumon's tarnished reputation, which necessitates drastic administrative changes that feel more ominous than comforting.
Amid this subdued chaos engulfing the world outside Lumon's stark offices, outie Mark (Adam Scott) wrestles over potential revelations about his seemingly dead wife,...

Not many shows have left a lasting impact in TV history as Frasier did. The NBC sitcom aired from 1993 until 2004, and while it was a spinoff of Cheers, it became so much more. The series had sharp dialogue, smart humor, and the perfect cast one could imagine, which earned the show a record-breaking 37 Emmy Awards during its original run.

Seth MacFarlane and the Family Guy staff just struck a brutal blow to The Simpsons with a bit of scheduling “plagiarismo.”
This February will mark an historic moment for Fox and its Sunday night animation block when, for the first time in more than three decades, The Simpsons will not lead off the lineup of adult animated comedies that owe their very existence to Matt Groening and his team. The Simpsons has long been the cornerstone of Fox and its Animation Domination schedule where shows like American Dad! first found their footing, but The Simpsons now finds itself a step behind the competition as Family Guy slides into first place for the month of February while The Simpsons will have to wait until March to return to Season 36, at which time it will reclaim the first slot from Family Guy.

Even if you’ve never seen one of Family Guy‘s 400+ episodes, there’s a good chance you already know that Peter Griffin did not care for The Godfather. In fact, he’d go so far as to say that Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 classic “insists upon itself.”
That’s because one of the show’s most iconic scenes — in which the Griffin family gets into a heated exchange about movies while the room slowly fills with water — remains one of the show’s most viral moments, still regularly shared online nearly two decades after the episode’s original airing.
