CBS’ Tracker this week was Sunday’s most-watched TV program, while ABC’s Afv and American Idol tied for the nightly demo win.

Exclusive: BBC Three has greenlit a Eurovision-themed animation, its first in two decades.
Galaxy Dance is the youth-skewing RuPaul’s Drag Race UK network’s first animated show since Harry Thompson and Shaun Pye’s irreverent sketch series Monkey Dust, which ran from 2003 to 2005.
Galaxy Dance is set amid Eurovision 2989, with the interstellar dance competition seeing a myriad of alien groups and Earth’s human band competing for a prize fund so gigantic it could save the planet from extinction. The only issue is that Earth is on a notorious losing streak and ‘Galaxy Dance’ is the fiercest contest in the Milky Way. Enter Doyle, Jane and their team of misfits with nothing more to lose.
Starring Liam Bixby (Wreck), Lisa Dwyer Hogg (Dance First) and Mukamajulé Michelo (The Lovers), the one-off is expected to air around Eurovision. Developed by Unreal Engine tech, it is being produced by HaZimation and...

Zoro is a legendary character, not only in One Piece but in other anime and manga franchises as well. The daunting swordsman is often the butt of jokes due to his inability to figure out directions. However, that has not stopped him from appearing in other famous works.
Franchises like Haikyu!!, Kagurabachi and more have included Zoro references in their plot, proving that other mangakas are nerds for Eiichiro Oda’s work. But make sure this doesn’t reach the ears of Sanji fans, or the rivalry between the characters might just prove fatal.

When we think of fully realized fictional worlds, we tend to think of fantastical genre places like Middle-earth or the "Star Wars" universe. These are settings with intricate history and mythology; places not of our world.
One location we don't normally consider to be as intricate is Springfield. Plenty of sitcoms have fleshed-out worlds with characters the audience gets to know and care for over time, but few shows have as intricate a world with as much detail as "The Simpsons."
Sure, Springfield doesn't have fantasy elements or mythological creatures (most of the time), and it doesn't need them. This is as thoroughly constructed and fleshed out a world as "Dune," or Discworld, with its own unique history of deception, an abundance of colorful side characters like the enigmatic Dr. Marvin Monroe, a corrupt system of power, unique institutions, and more.
Before you light up your torches, think about how much we know about Springfield.

Being one of the most important figures of New Hollywood and the most commercially successful director in history, Steven Spielberg has prominently inscribed his name in history. Movie recommendations of the pioneer of the modern blockbuster or even the whole 21st century’s cinema definitely deserve our close attention.
Speaking of one classic feature, the filmmaker stated it meant everything to him, calling it “one of the great movies ever made”, while many critics claim it’s the best film ever made in cinematic history. Indeed, its impact on the industry is hard to overestimate.
The 1941 drama that we’re talking about focuses on the rises and falls of a big publishing magnate, the character based on the renowned media barons and tycoons of that time and partially of the movie screenwriters' own real-life experiences. And yes, you guessed it right: the movie in question is Citizen Kane.

Before video games truly advanced, the arcade was where it was at. Much like Saturday morning cartoons, it’s one of those obsolete ideas from the past where you get why it’s gone, but damn if it didn’t represent some wonderful times. Arcade games seemed like the zenith of what a video game could look and feel like. Consoles were great and all, but you knew that if you were getting a port of an arcade classic for your 8-bit or 16-bit system, you weren’t getting the full package.
One of the genres that truly felt like the soul of the arcade experience was the beat ‘em up. The idea that you, a couple of friends, or even some complete strangers could join together at a cabinet and go on a trek to beat up as many enemy thugs as possible until you either ran out of quarters and couldn’t continue,...

D'oh! The Simpsons is going strong in its 35th season, and the writers are exploring some new directions.
After three and a half decades, Marge and Lisa Simpson are starting to get the screen time they've always deserved.
As exciting as it is to see this testosterone-driven classic lean more inclusive of its female characters, there's some question about the motive behind the change.
This show has captured the dynamic between Homer and Bart well, and it's not like we never got to see Marge bond with Lisa.
In fact, way back on The Simpsons Season 1 Episode 6, one of the show's best quotes came during a conversation between the mother-daughter duo.
You want to be sad, honey, be sad. We'll ride it out with you. And when you get finished feeling sad, we'll still be there.

The key to understanding Conan O’Brien’s comedy is knowing that it comes from a point of kindness. Yes, I know in this age of comics punching down, this kind of compliment may leave you with a neon “Must Avoid!” sign flashing in your bleary eyes — but stay with me.
Here is an example. Early in the first episode of his new, four-episode Max travel show “Conan O’Brien Must Go,” Conan — who has earned the right to be referred to by his first name. See: Carson, Johnny — travels to Oslo, Norway. There, he pops in on Jarle, a Norwegian waif of a rapper that Conan had originally met on a segment of his “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast. In the podcast video, Jarle’s hair was combed and he seemed coherent. Then Conan surprises him. Jarle comes to the door, and he’s maybe 110 pounds in a long sleeve T-shirt,...

When Iain Ward was in his 20s, he did medical trials.
You know, for fun. And for profit.
He was working in sports medicine at the time, teaching fitness classes. But that job didn’t take up his entire days, so he started getting involved in studies “because they are not as dangerous as episodes of The Simpsons might lead you to believe, and the money that they give is huge,” he says.
In 2019, he did one trial that involved getting Ct scans and monitoring brain wavelengths. There was nothing strange about Ward’s readings. There was nothing strange about him at all. So, when he went on to the next trial and it too required brain scans, he didn’t expect researchers would find anything.

Great news for the sardonic, sarcastic, and rejected members of the Esteemers, because Mondo is releasing the first-ever, official, on-model figures based on the hit MTV show and cultural institution, "Daria." The adult animated sitcom created by Glenn Eichler and Susie Lewis Lynn was famously a spin-off of Mike Judge's "Beavis and Butt-Head," with Tracy Grandstaff reprising her role as the intelligent, cynical Daria Morgendorffer as she navigates her new high school in Lawndale.
"Daria" was a satirical look at suburban America and the high school experience, with the titular character and best friend Jane Lane's borderline misanthropic criticisms doubling as the vocalized interior thoughts of Gen X and elder millennials as they came of age. While Beavis and Butt-Head were oblivious idiots whose existence provided a commentary on the way the world mistakenly viewed teenagers because they didn't understand them,...

During jury selection for Donald Trump’s New York hush money trial, Judge Juan Merchan accused the former president of “intimidating” a juror after he made a gesture and muttered at him.
Merchan asked Trump’s attorney, Todd Blanche, to “speak to him” about his behavior.
“Your client was audibly uttering something. He was gesturing and muttering in the direction [of the juror],” the judge said to Blanche.
“I will not tolerate that,” Judge Merchan added, raising his voice. “I will not have any jurors intimidated in this courtroom. Take a minute and speak to your client about it!”
On day two of jury selection, the former president and his lawyers had a potential juror dismissed over a Facebook post he wrote about Trump in 2017.

Merchan asked Trump’s attorney, Todd Blanche, to “speak to him” about his behavior.
“Your client was audibly uttering something. He was gesturing and muttering in the direction [of the juror],” the judge said to Blanche.

"Familly Guy" is more than a show at this point. 25 years into its long run on television, it's a straight-up, locked-in part of the larger pop culture fabric. It's similar to "The Simpsons" in that way. But as the show is in the midst of its 22nd season, with a 23rd on the way, are we getting close to wrapping it up with the Griffin family? Creator Seth MacFarlane certainly doesn't seem to think there is any good reason to end it any time soon.
The Los Angeles Times recently caught up with MacFarlane, as well as the showrunners and members of the cast, to celebrate 25 years of "Family Guy." MacFarlane, who voices a number of characters on the show including Peter, Stewie, and Quagmire, among others, was asked whether he believes the show could run for another 25 years. After some back and forth, the animation guru explained that there...

Disney+ plans to launch new linear-tv-like channels with Star Wars or Marvel shows, according to a report from The Information. But don’t call them Fast channels, because considering the Disney+ subscription price, they wouldn’t be free.
First things first: IndieWire went straight to the source, a spokesperson for Disney’s streaming business, to inquire. The spokesperson declined comment. Shoot.
So then we went straight to the guy who coined the Fast acronym — it stands for Free, ad-Supported Streaming Television — for his opinion on the report.
Alan Wolk has been yelling at SVOD (Streaming Video On-Demand — not Wolk’s acronym) services to roll out preprogrammed channels for years now. It’s Fast without the free; it’s broadcast and cable TV without the cord. Programmers set a 24/7 schedule of owned and licensed content, one after another in whatever order, and they will come. Who’s “they”? Folks who don...

Al Roker and his production banner have been sued by Bill Schultz, a former executive producer on an animated kids TV series in development. Schultz (The Simpsons, King of The Hill, Garfield) claims he was fired for objecting to the company’s failure to follow a diversity initiative intended to bring minority writers onto PBS television productions.
The lawsuit, filed in New York federal court on Tuesday, alleges executives at Al Roker Entertainment “callously disregarded” a diversity, equity and inclusion program, commonly called Dei, mandated by PBS, which covered the bulk of the production expenses for animated series Weather Hunters, by attempting to have Black writers touch up scripts written by white scribes to give the appearance of a diverse writers room.

"The Simpsons" is arguably the best American TV show of all time, a long-running masterpiece of the medium that has forever changed TV and animation. Part of why the series has managed to remain popular after so many decades and even have a resurgence in quality recently is the show's characters and world. Springfield feels very much like a real, breathing place full of memorable individuals. Indeed, there are so many noteworthy personalities on the show that we once ranked the best one-off "Simpsons" characters and still had to ignore dozens of them. The series can even support episodes where the main cast is nowhere to be seen and they still end up being some of the best "Simpsons" episodes ever.
Among the many excellent and memorable characters that populate Springfield is Bumblebee Man. While he may appear to be little more than another racially insensitive caricature like Apu on the surface,...

As much as "Inception" has a reputation for being overly complicated, the emotional core of the film is pretty simple: Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is sad because he kinda, sorta murdered his wife Mal (Marion Cotillard), and his arc is about confronting his guilt so he can move on. Much has been made of that ambiguous dream totem that might have been about to topple, but the important thing is that Cobb doesn't stick around to watch it. He goes off to hang out with his children, demonstrating that this is the life he's chosen to live regardless of whether or not it's real.
Although the totem gets all the buzz, plenty of viewers have also zeroed in on another potentially ambiguous moment in that final scene: when Cobb picks up his young son, the kid says, "I built a house." As a Wired journalist pointed out in a 2010 interview with Christopher Nolan,...

Van Partible's animated series "Johnny Bravo" debuted on the Cartoon Network on July 14, 1997. It was one of four new shows that Cartoon Network premiered in 1997 and 1998 that served as a declaration for a new creator-forward direction the network was taking. "Johnny Bravo" debuted alongside Genndy Tartakovsky's "Dexter's Laboratory," David Feiss' "Cow and Chicken," and Craig McCracken's "The Powerpuff Girls." In 1999, that lineup would be complemented by "Ed, Edd n Eddy," and "Courage the Cowardly Dog." These shows were all quirky and idiosyncratic and attracted a generation of fans.
"Johnny Bravo" was about a barrel-chested, Elvis-voiced lug who lived with his mother and attempted to find love in the big city. His buffoonery and vanity, however, usually kept him single. Johnny was played by prolific voice actor Jeff Bennett, who has been acting professionally since 1991. Van Partible had been working on a version of the show as early...

In an exclusive interview with Variety, German maestro filmmaker Werner Herzog discussed his plans to lead the 3rd Film Accelerator program organized by Barcelona-based La Selva. Herzog and his long-time cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger will be on hand to guide the 25 directing and 25 cinematography aspirants who will pair up to create short films no longer than 10 mins in length.
On day one, he will give them a framework on which to base their project. “They’re not to come with a pre-formulated plan for their projects,” said Herzog, who revealed that he was lending his voice to “Parasite” director Bong Joon Ho’s upcoming hand-drawn animated feature about deep-sea creatures.
This would not be the first time for Herzog, who has lent his distinguished gravelly voice to many other parts in the past, most notably in episodes of “The Simpsons,” “The Boondocks” as well as Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty” and “Metalocalypse.

The David Hemingson-scripted Alexander Payne dramedy The Holdovers and Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction were the big film winners at the strike-delayed 2024 Writers Guild Awards, which were handed out Sunday in Los Angeles and New York.
Jefferson — who also was honored with the WGA West’s Paul Selvin Award — followed his Oscar win for Adapted Screenplay as the WGA’s weird, wild and elongated Awards season wrapped with simultaneous ceremonies on both coasts. Hemingson scored a modicum of revenge for losing the Original Screenplay Academy Award to Justine Triet and Arthur Harari for Anatomy of a Fall.
The latter script, however, wasn’t eligible for a Writers Guild Award. That’s because, unlike other guilds, the WGA deems ineligible any scripts for movies not produced under its Minimum Basic Agreement or a bona fide collective bargaining agreement with various affiliated countries.
Later, the Documentary prize went to Errol Morris...

Never let it be said that "Bones" was above using its weekly murder investigation format to put its heroes in highly improbable situations for a laugh. In point of fact, the show's writers seized every excuse they could contrive to push Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) out of their element, whether that meant going undercover at a circus or entering the squared circle as part of an episode that was itself an irreverent "Simpsons" Easter egg hunt. 10 bucks say you can already guess what happened when the Jeffersonian crew found themselves looking into the apparent murder of a professional ballroom dancer in season 8, episode 10, "The Diamond in the Rough."
Sure enough, faster than you can argue that "Strictly Ballroom" is Baz Luhrmann's second-best movie (never let it be said that I myself am above contriving things for my own purposes), Bones and Booth dust off...

One key thing to remember, when watching a "Treehouse of Horror" episode of "The Simpsons," is that everything is a reference to something. Sometimes the thing the show's parodying is instantly recognizable, like season 5's take on "The Shining" or season 2's take on "The Raven." The smug, arrogant Comic Book Guy (Hank Azaria), proprietor of the Android's Dungeon, first appeared in the "The Simpsons" episode "Three Men and a Comic Book". In the episode, he sold a rare and expensive copy of "Radioactive Man" #1 to the young collectors Bart (Nancy Cartwright), Milhouse (Pamela Hayden), and Martin (Russi Taylor). The comic cost $100 -- a fortune to the three young boys -- and they had to pool their money to make the sacred purchase.
The trio, however, never decided who would serve as the comic book's official caretaker, and they immediately became suspicious that one of them was angling to steal it from the other two. A "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" drama slowly unfolds. The Comic Book Guy, having seen the boys' folly beforehand, became a Mephistophelean figure, cackling at his customers' hubris.

But at Saturday’s Deadline Contenders Television panel, the perennial character actor — beaming in from overseas, where he is shooting The White Lotus — said the task of transformation proved to be “extremely anxiety provoking” at first. We all think we know Seth Rogen. He’s the stoner king, the oversized kid fighting off adulthood, the comedy icon that Judd Apatow built almost from scratch after the two met just before the turn of the millennium on the set of the woefully short-lived NBC series “Freaks and Geeks.” Yes, Rogen is all these things, but to limit his influence strictly to his talents as a funnyman is to wrongly shortchange him. At the not-so-advanced age of 40, the actor who was born on April 15, 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia is also a prolific writer and producer of product on screens big and small. He even co-wrote an episode of “The Simpsons.”
Moreover, the Rogen that audiences saw in “The Fabelmans” from director and co-writer Steven Spielberg bears little resemblance to the Rogen who entered the zeitgeist in such fun-loving, maturity-challenged raunchfests as “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express” more than a decade ago.

It’s the rare actor has an opportunity to portray a real-life World War II hero and a notorious villain of American history in the space of just a few months, but the Irish-born Anthony Boyle is that guy. He’s king of the prestigious limited series in 2024 in a pair of big-ticket Apple TV+ projects. He was starring as Lieut. Harry Crosby of the Air Force’s famed Bloody Hundredth bomber group in the nine-part, $250 million epic “Masters of the Air” from the team that made “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific,” Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. And a few months after completing filming on that in England, Boyle started work on the seven-part historical drama “Manhunt” portraying no less than John Wilkes Booth, the man who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln. “I wanted to do kind of the opposite of what I’d just done,” Boyle says.

In the "Futurama" episode "The Problem with Popplers", the Planet Express crew lands on a distant, uncharted planet hoping to find a fast food joint; the ship had run out of supplies and Bender (John Dimaggio) was only able to make a meal with baking soda and capers. They land on a Class-m planet which, as Leela (Katey Sagal) explains, should at least provide roddenberry bushes. What they find instead are craters stuffed with brown, crunchy, edible meat nuggets ... that are utterly delicious. Snarfing ensues.
No one has set foot on this planet before so the Planet Express crew packs up the morsels and takes them back to Earth to sell on street corners. It's not long before they attract the attention of fast food proprietor Fishy Joe (Maurice Lamarche), and turn the nuggets — nicknamed Popplers — into a global phenomenon.
Naturally, there is something unusual about the Popplers. While Leela eats,...

Jon Musker and Ron Clements' 2016 animated Disney film "Moana" was a massive hit, making over $687 million worldwide. The titular character is a princess from the Polynesian island of Motunui. Her people are content on their island and hate venturing out into open waters, a mandate that Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho) decides to break when a blight strikes her village. The bulk of "Moana" follows the princess after she sets sail and befriends Maui (Dwayne Johnson), an impish demigod with a connection to the blight. "Moana" was nominated for two Oscars, including Best Animated Feature and Best Song.
A "Moana" TV series was in the works at Disney, although those plans were surprisingly altered in February 2024 when CEO Bob Iger announced that the series was being reworked into a movie sequel instead. The release date was given as November, only nine months from the announcement. In terms of Disney marketing, that was pretty short notice.

What's the worst Stanley Kubrick movie? If you could ask Kubrick himself, he'd likely tell you the answer is "Fear and Desire," his debut feature. And by most accounts, "Fear and Desire" is definitely near the bottom of the list when it comes to Kubrick films. It's a clunky, clumsy movie that Kubrick himself called "a presumptuous failure." He also stated: "It's not a film I remember with any pride, except for the fact it was finished."
Kubrick disliked the film so much that he would've been happy if no one actually watched it. By some accounts, the filmmaker even tried to destroy the film. Eventually, its copyright lapsed and it fell into the public domain for all to see — provided anyone could find a print. Which they couldn't — until 1994. That year, a version of the film was found and...
