Surreal......but is it any good?
John Stagliano goes a little off the rails with this one, dotted with surreal scenes, pointless talky breaks and an overall atmosphere of both boredom and malaise. Dance Fire can hardly be described as your average skin-flick, but this doesn't mean it's all that good either.
There's a varied mix of quality in performances, Brandy Alexandre looks out of her depth and rough around the edges (perhaps that was the intention,) while Trinity Loren seems a little jaded. On the plus side Champagne keeps interest value high in her aerobic wear and the penultimate threesome with Nina DePonca and Stephanie Rage taking on a rather large security guard is quite memorable.
Despite obvious nods to the likes of 'Fame' and 'Flashdance' the film isn't all shagging in spandex and leg-warmers, perhaps it would've been a better film if it had. The film soon starts getting downright weird dwelling on Stagliano's fantasies with arty lighting, dance cameos and shadowy tape filler. Most of the physical performances are up to scratch when they finally do come round but Stagliano's 'creative' handling gets just a bit irritating after a while.
Inevitably a video that has you reaching for the fast-forward button too many times.
