The first cut of the film was well over two hours and after the studio screened the film, they told Thom Eberthardt to call them when the movie was under two hours. Eberhardt and his editor, Bud Smith cut the film drastically by 30 Minutes and ended up at the 109 Minute running time that it currently stands.
Tell me. Joe or Joseph, why do you want to be a doctor?
Joe Slovak: That's easy. I want to help people.
Interviewer: Come one Joe, you can be honest with me. Why do you want to be a doctor?
Joe Slovak: Well, uh, I want to make lots of money.
Joe Slovak's shirttails unroll during the final scene.
There is another scene where the characters are all in a bar, and they are talking about their residencies. One version that was shown has a close up of the main characters at a table and one says, "I want to get a job, working in a quality hospital with quality patients." On Showtime's version there are camera scans to several other people in the bar. You hear the quote in the background, but do not hear who said the phrase.
