Follows a crime (usually a murder), usually adapted from current headlines, from two separate vantage points, the police investigation and the prosecution in court.
Chris Noth (Mike Logan) & Jill Hennessy (Claire Kincaid) also worked together on three episodes of The Good Wife (2009), as Peter Florrick & Rayna Hecht respectively.

Even though you are a taxpayer, you know, we don't actually work for you personally.
The time-lines of trials seem to be rushed and take place within days of the crime. Most of the cases on this series are homicides, with a few rapes and kidnappings thrown in. These cases, if not plea bargained, are seldom heard in less than a year after the event.
Some (but not all) episodes show a disclaimer emphasizing the fictional nature of the story just prior to the closing credits. This is particularly important on those episodes that were inspired by well-known real-life legal cases.
Rebroadcasts on TNT were digitally altered to include product placements.
