The Daily Show may be taking the week off, but Comedy Central is clearly hoping to keep the show’s post-Jon Stewart return momentum going.
Rather than pre-empt the show with South Park or Seinfeld repeats as it’s done in the recent past when The Daily Show is on break, Comedy Central will be re-airing four of Jon Stewart’s Monday shows this coming week.
In on-air promos (see below), the network is dubbing it “A Full Week of Jon-Cores”
The Daily Show has seen a ratings resurgence over the five weeks since Stewart’s return. Last fall the show was averaging about 300,000 total viewers nightly. Stewart’s Monday episodes have more than tripled that in live-plus-same-day viewers, and when delayed viewing is added, his numbers have been hovering around 2,000,000 viewers.

Both critics and fans cherish Twin Peaks as a trailblazing show that paved the way for new ideas on network television. In its first two seasons in 1990 and 1991, Twin Peaks stretched the concept of what a weekly drama could be. With the prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me and the 2017 Showtime season Twin Peaks: The Return, Twin Peaks further redefined the boundaries and expectations of television as a storytelling medium.
Although the program is associated with the bold, eccentric style of David Lynch, Twin Peaks also benefited from a cast that blended cinematic legends, television mainstays, and charismatic new talent. Several actors contributed iconic performances, crafting characters that would influence American programming for decades to come.

Quick Links Seinfeld Says No to Sentimentalism in Favor of Consistency Seinfeld is a Show About Nothing, But There's a Catch Many Seinfeld Plotlines Are Inspired By Real-Life Situations From Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld's Life Seinfeld changed the traditional sitcom structure by rejecting sentimentalism and storylines that would go on for more than a few episodes. Seinfeld is structured like an isolated joke, setting up conflict and delivering a punch line that ties all loose ends. As a result, many may wonder is Seinfeld truly is a show about nothing.
Seinfeld is often regarded as a "show about nothing" by the fans, and even the show itself plays with this idea every once in a while. Do you ever wonder what happens to movie props? Sometimes, filmmakers and actors will take them home as a souvenir. But more often than not, props end up back in a pile, destined to be re-used again. For instance: Egon's P.K.E. Meter from the original "Ghostbusters" pops up again in John Carpenter's "They Live," with no real explanation.
And then there's the curious case of George Costanza's glasses.
George is, of course, the famous character played by Jason Alexander on "Seinfeld," and the part is partially inspired by the show's co-creator, Larry David. Like David, George wears glasses, and when it came time to find his specs for the pilot episode of the show — originally titled "The Seinfeld Chronicles" — costume designer Ruth E. Carter pulled the frames from a surprising source: Spike Lee's "Malcolm X."

There is a curious undercurrent in TV history that is so prevalent that it almost seems like a curse: that is the popular TV series that absolutely crashes and burns on the landing, offering a terrible ending that leaves a sour note in the memory of the devoted fans who have been following the show since the beginning. Otherwise beloved series that drew viewers in for years, like Seinfeld, Lost, and Game of Thrones, are some of the most classic examples of shows that stumbled across the finish line. However, the finale of How I Met Your Mother easily holds one of the top slots of all time in the category of disappointing finales to beloved and popular TV series. The twist ending and the resolution to the main character arcs left many fans in disbelief as to how everything came to a close in the story. Fortunately enough, though,...

Jennifer Coolidge used cunning and lies on her resume to land her guest role on Seinfeld in 1993. Julia Louis-Dreyfus recognized Coolidge's talent during a table read, boosting the aspiring actress's confidence. Coolidge credits two clothing store employees for helping her nail the look that landed her the Seinfeld part.
Many are aware that Jennifer Coolidge was on Seinfeld in a guest role, but what they may not know is the cunning and ingenious way she got the part. At one point, Coolidge was probably best known for her role as Stifler's mom in the American Pie movie franchise, but her star somewhat cooled over the years until her resurgence in the White Lotus franchise as the daffy but undeniably lovable Tanya McQuoid. She earned one Golden Globe and two Emmy Awards for her work and rocketed herself back into mainstream stardom.

When it comes to a series finale, so many TV shows get it wrong. They attempt to do something shocking that's unnecessary, create a plot that doesn't fit with the rest of the series, or they try to wrap up too many storylines at once. The ones that get it right remember what viewers loved about the show to begin with. One series finale done exceptionally well was ABC's long-running sitcom The Middle.

A new study by hub Entertainment Research has found that about half of streaming users do not know which service has popular franchise shows — and licensing is to blame.
The licensing of TV series across several services — at once or at different times — has “created confusion as to where [shows] reside,” the report reads. For anyone without a (particularly good) voice-control remote, this is a problem.
Exactly 50 percent of hub’s (their stylization) survey respondents said they are “not sure” where “The Office” and “Friends” reside. “The Big Bang Theory” and “South Park” have a 55 percent/45 percent split, which means 55 percent are “not sure” where the shows stream and 45 percent at least wagered a guess — correctly or incorrectly.
A whopping 69 percent of survey-takers said they’re not sure where “Band of Brothers” is streaming. We get it, “Band of Brothers” is a 23-year-old premium-cable limited series. The...

Fifteen minutes into the debut episode of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s podcast, the power is knocked out by a bomb cyclone. Her guest, Jane Fonda, continues speaking, unaware the connection is lost, and Louis-Dreyfus frantically attempts to reconnect, amid a few choice swear words and a blaring home alarm.
Rather than edit it out, Louis-Dreyfus saw it as an asset and kept it in the episode: “It’s just funny. So, I figured why not? Let’s include it. Everybody can relate too. I was so tense.”

Lori Loughlin's self-parody in Curb Your Enthusiasm mirrors Michael Richards' role in season 7 with the Seinfeld cast reunion. Larry David’s popular HBO sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm is closing the book this season and the final year of the show has been in full swing. This year would also, unfortunately, see the passing of one of the show’s stars and close friend of Larry David, Richard Lewis. As the show makes its final run, it would continue to bring on guest appearances of certain actors to play over-the-top versions of themselves. David would previously have hilarious clashes with famous guest stars like Shaquille O’Neal, Michael J. Fox and the Seinfeld cast. This year brought in Full House star Lori Loughlin as she pokes fun at her college admissions scandal from 2019 (which would also involve Felicity Huffman).
Loughlin uses Larry as a sponsor to enter a country club as she loves to play golf, and hilariously, Loughlin hasn’t learned a thing from her experiences as she keeps cheating.

There comes a time in every heterosexual woman or queer man’s life where we have to wonder: What is it about men that is at once so despicable and so alluring?
There are statistically more male serial killers, more male sociopaths, and — let’s be real — more male assholes than there are female counterparts. That’s just scientific fact. Sure, you can click on the hyperlinks, but do you really need to read a Psychology Today post between looking at this review and scrolling through the dating apps?

The end, happily ever after, everyone is great and good. Yeah, if you’re currently dating (or have been on dates at all in the 21st century), you know that’s not how it works, especially when situationships,...

Larry David's departure from Seinfeld in season 7 was due to concerns over maintaining the show's quality and avoiding a decline. Larry David's particular sense of humor, similar to Seinfeld's, helped make the show unique despite initial struggles to connect with audiences. Seinfeld suffered after Larry David's exit, with critics faulting later seasons for losing the grounded humor and cohesiveness David brought.
Despite helping to create one of the most acclaimed and influential sitcoms of the 1990s, Larry David left Seinfeld after season 7 due to concerns he had over the direction of the show. Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld created Seinfeld in 1988, initially pitching it as a show about how a comedian gets their material. While Seinfeld himself obviously became the face of the show as its star, David's role was to run it from behind the scenes, serving as head writer and executive producer throughout the show's “golden era...

The four main characters in Seinfeld will do anything in order to get what they want. Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), George (Jason Alexander), Kramer (Michael Richards), and Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) will lie, cheat, and steal in order to achieve their goals, because, well, they aren't the best folks. George Costanza is the worst offender, doing everything from lying about being an architect named Art Vandelay to being a marine biologist, usually in order to impress a woman he couldn't get by being himself.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is heading towards its final episodes, but it's never too late to delve into Seinfeld creator Larry David's turbulent and perpetually grumpy persona. The show was developed following the success of a one-hour HBO special featuring David mocking himself and the characters that take part in his everyday life. It was supposed to be a one-time project, which evolved into a 12-season TV series on air since 2000.
Similar to David's most popular project, the hit 90s sitcom Seinfeld, starring Jerry Seinfeld as a semi-fictionalized version of himself, Curb Your Enthusiasm is also a show about nothing. Although everything in the show orbits around David's quirky personality, it's the rotating cast of brilliant comedians and stars playing alternate versions of themselves that truly make the series so unique and a mostly unscripted masterpiece.

The characters on Seinfeld are undeniably the worst. Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), George (Jason Alexander), Kramer (Michael Richards), and Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) are over-the-top, self-centered jerks. That was the whole point, though, and why they went to jail in the Seinfeld series finale. While they're awful, they're hilarious in being so bad, and almost always get their comeuppance for it. That makes Seinfeld sidesplitting funny rather than cringe-worthy and offensive. One episode, however, crossed the line with Jerry doing something so criminal that, in the real world, it would have landed him in jail for a reason far worse than what he actually went behind bars for at the end of the series. And it involves... action figures?...

The 2021 Oscars was the first time a front-facing ramp was an integrated element of the Academy Awards’ custom-built stage. Academy member Jim LeBrecht, who uses a wheelchair, initiated the effort and executed it alongside his Crip Camp co-director Nicole Newnham and executive producer Howard Gertler after an Oscar nomination for the Obama-produced Netflix doc seemed on the horizon.
The ramp, present for years at disability-focused ceremonies like the Media Access Awards, marked a visible shift for mainstream Hollywood’s focus in the diversity, equity and inclusion space. And it would spark similar efforts — sometimes piecemeal or sweeping, other times fumbled — at other major industry events such as the Emmys and Grammys.
Since then, the Oscars have expanded their accessibility efforts. The 2024 show, which takes place this Sunday, will include confidential accessibility requests for all nominees and guests; captioning services (live captions through in-house monitors, captions for video packages and...

Making a good TV show is far from an easy task. Looking specifically at casting, pre-production has the tough milestone of properly picking the most fitting actors to embody the protagonists who will carry the show for years if it's a successful series. During those years, there were endless factors that could make a TV show lose its main star before it ended.
From the contracts signed to untimely deaths, the reasons for the actors' departures certainly vary. Many TV shows started strong and harnessed passionate fans worldwide but broke their hearts when a main star quit. Some examples are Nina Dobrev's exit from The Vampire Diaries or Cory Monteith's sudden death that forced Glee to change its main storyline. These fans sometimes had to deal with the emotional plot twist and the devastating news behind the decision to write the character off the show.

Season 12 of Curb Your Enthusiasm is the end of the line for Larry David and the show he's been pretty, pretty, pretty good at crafting for these past 25 years. Sure, he's threatened to end this series before, but it seems he truly means it this time.
According to Larry, he's finally ready to shed his "curmudgeon" persona to become the person God intended him to be. Or, as he stated more specifically, it's time to reclaim "the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character." HBO's longest-running scripted series, Curb Your Enthusiasm, will have aired 120 episodes by the time its 12th and final season comes to an end, and these are the ten best episodes to get fans ready for the series finale.

Seinfeld stays true to its premise of showing the cast as terrible people throughout the series. American Horror Story can continue with original horror stories due to its anthology format. Criminal Minds remains impactful by introducing new killers while maintaining certain iconic characters.
It is no small feat for a long-running TV show to stick to its original premise for its entire time on the air. TV shows often abandon their main premise when the show goes on for too long and the writers start to run out of ideas. Certain genres, such as the sitcom or procedural, are more formulaic and allow the show to remain the same throughout. However, other long-running series are based on such an expansive or vaguely defined idea that they can carry on for years without ever technically abandoning what they were originally advertised as.

Larry's rivalry with Ted Danson intensifies as Cheryl gets involved in a hilarious brick donation debacle. Ted donates anonymously in a callback to a classic episode, leaving Larry in disbelief. Seinfeld season 1 shows the germ of what would make it a great sitcom, but the actors lacked confidence in their characters. Season 2 of Seinfeld had its turning point with the episode "The Chinese Restaurant" and started to embrace its unique tone. Despite a dip in quality after Larry David's departure, Seinfeld season 8 still had some standout moments, but began to lose its way.
Taking a look at the Seinfeld seasons ranked worst to best gives a glimpse at how the show became a television icon. Seinfeld is a titan of the sitcom genre, but with 180 episodes across nine seasons from 1989-98, it can be hard to maintain a consistency of quality. While a weak episode or season of Seinfeld has a lot more to offer than most other shows, there are clear peaks and troughs across the series. However, the best Seinfeld seasons prove why it remains so beloved.

Seinfeld and Mad About You may have been two big NBC series from the '90s set in New York, but their characters and plots are vastly different. Mad About You, starring Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt, was about the trials and tribulations of a newly married couple, Paul and Jamie Buchnan. It's your typical sitcom centered on a couple, though a well written and acted one that won many Emmys. On Seinfeld, couples didn't last long. Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), George (Jason Alexander), Kramer (Michael Richards), or Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) never got married. Sure, George was engaged once, only for his fiancée Susan (Heidi Swedberg) to die. That was treated as a joke, as was everything on Seinfeld. The series, co-created by Larry David, was a place where no lessons were learned, whereas Mad About You was more grounded in reality.

Celebrity cameos are common in sitcoms of the past and present – Carrie Fisher in The Big Bang Theory, Prince in New Girl, Taraji P. Henson in Abbott Elementary, and so many more – but no series did celebrity cameos quite like Seinfeld. Throughout its nine seasons and 180 episodes, Seinfeld had an array of celebrity cameos, though some of them weren't celebrities just yet. Part of the fun of watching Seinfeld in 2024 is identifying the sheer number of celebrities in one-episode guest roles during the early years of their career, often as one of the gang's love interests. Jerry's (Jerry Seinfeld) character, in particular, had a revolving door of girlfriends played by up-and-coming actresses, many of whom would go on to star in successful shows of their own soon after, like Courtney Cox (Friends), Kristin Davis (Sex and the City), and Debra Messing (Will & Grace). What distinguishes Seinfeld's celebrity cameos from...

In George Lucas' 1977 sci-fi flick "Star Wars," there is a scene wherein a cadre of Nazi-like bad guys, in the employ of the evil Empire, gather around a boardroom table and mention that the mysterious off-screen Emperor has dissolved the senate and taken absolute control. The military generals are outraged, wondering how the Empire might survive without a bureaucracy in place. In Irvin Kirshner's 1980 sequel "The Empire Strikes Back," it's established that Darth Vader (David Prowse), a mysterious masked warlock, was actually the Emperor's right-hand man, indicating that the Emperor retains control of the Empire through the sheer force of his villainy.

Television has improved in some major ways since the 1990s, but sitcoms have particularly struggled and been forced to make many concessions that are indicative of the medium's current streaming slate. There's a fearlessness that was pervasive throughout '90s sitcoms that led to some major risks being taken. That's not to say that all of these gambles paid off, but it resulted in an eclectic roster of programming that occasionally feels completely at odds with everything else that was present on the medium.
Granted, the '90s also produced some of the most successful and conventional sitcoms of all time, such as Friends, Seinfeld, and Frasier. However, there is also a wide array of short-lived sitcoms that were either cut short or never truly got a chance to find audiences and grow. On the Feb. 18 episode of season 12, titled “Vertical Drop, Horizontal Tug,” the lifelong friends were seen riding a golf cart, talking about their Wordle streaks and golf swings. Some of the longest-running scripted shows have not only premiered on NBC but have also been American television’s most successful TV shows. Founded on June 19, 1926, NBC is America’s oldest traditional commercial broadcast television network. It is still regarded as one of America’s “Big Three” networks, comprising CBS and ABC. Besides Fox’s animated sitcom The Simpsons, which premiered on December 17, 1989, NBC has the longest-running TV drama series with over 500 episodes. In over its nine-decade existence, the NBC has broadcasted popular, award-winning TV shows, including The Cosby Show (1984-1992), Seinfeld (1989-1998), Frasier (1993-2004), ER (1994-2009), Friends (1994-2004),...

On the latest Curb Your Enthusiasm episode, Larry David (the character) is accused of being the anonymous writer of a letter griping about his Los Angeles country club. The letter, which is posted to the locker room bulletin board, is signed “Disgruntled” and grabs the attention of the club’s owner, Mr. Takahashi (Dana Lee), who happens to have a long-standing feud with Larry.
It makes sense that Larry would be assumed to be the so-called Disgruntled member. In this episode — the fourth in the final season, titled “Disgruntled” — Larry, who is enjoying newfound fame as a political national hero after his premiere episode visit to Georgia, gets under the skin of several members of the club’s staff when he complains about breakfast not being served after 11 a.m., brings his own bread and his own eggs to the kitchen, and then accuses the chef of not using his home-brought eggs.

Seinfeld's nine-season run ended in 1998, but twenty-five years later it still lives on through streaming and syndication as if it never stopped. It's timeless, its oddball characters and their self-centered ways becoming more relatable as the years pass. Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), Kramer (Michael Richards), Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), and George (Jason Alexander) worked together for nearly every one of Seinfeld's 180 episodes, creating magic that can't be recaptured.

For 10 seasons, Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm has succeeded with a simple formula: something bad befalls Larry, he’s upset, more often than not justifiably, but every single time, as only he can do, he finds a way to make things much, much worse. Audiences love the over-the-top absurdity. He gets to say and do the things we’d never dream of. It’s a perfectly concocted, exaggerated look into the life of the man who created Seinfeld, and a fix for those who miss that series. It’s as if George Costanza never left us, but simply packed up and moved to California.
