    That was the first effort by talented actor Bernard Giraudeau as a director (for the record,the second was "Les Caprices D'Un Fleuve" ).

    A small Mediterranean village is the scene of an earthquake,but don't expect a disaster epic in Sensurround ."L'Autre" is an intimate work.

    A young tourist is trapped in a hole.An old man,Simm ,(Bunuelian Francisco Rabal) comes to his rescue.Some have summarized the story as " A man speaks to another one through a pipe and he gets no answers".Simm ,whose life is almost through,stays near the "grave" ,speaking words of comfort ,of solidarity.

    Spoiler: As Sim is walking away,we see the young man getting out in the distance.

    For viewers who want "something else".
