The beloved procedural crime show "Bones" ran for an impressive 12 seasons, continuing the upward TV star trajectory for David Boreanaz after his work on shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," and helping to launch Emily Deschanel to become a household name after a slew of small roles in a handful of TV shows and movies.
As the co-stars of "Bones," Deschanel and Boreanaz naturally appeared in every single episode of the series. And while viewers know guest stars didn't pop up nearly as frequently, some casual watchers may think that some of the more familiar faces might have at least popped up one time per season. But as it turns out, out of all of the guest stars who graced the series from 2005-2017, only one performer managed to make at least one appearance across all 12 seasons: Patricia Belcher, who played Caroline Julian, a federal prosecutor for the U.

Jennifer Nettles, lead vocalist of the country duo Sugarland and a successful solo artist, got into acting by playing Dolly Parton’s mother in the 2015 TV movie Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors. Since then she has appeared in the sequel to that movie, Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, performed in Chicago and Waitress on Broadway, had roles in the film Harriet and the TV series Underground, and appeared on multiple episodes of the HBO show The Righteous Gemstones… which happens to be executive produced by David Gordon Green, so that paved the way for her to have a role in Green’s most recent film, The Exorcist: Believer. Now Deadline reports that Nettles is following her Exorcist role by being cast in another genre project: the horror action series The Bondsman!

Nina Dobrev has had a great career, being the lead on The Vampire Diaries for an amazing six seasons while also appearing in movies like Let’s Be Cops, the Flatliners remake and more. Yet, she’s never gotten to test her mettle as an action heroine, with her regulated to mostly non-fighting roles in films like XXX: The Return of Xander Cage. That all changes with Renny Harlin’s The Bricklayer, in which she plays a CIA analyst sent on a mission to Greece, where she’s supposed to keep an eye on the agency’s most notorious hitman, Aaron Eckhart’s Steve Vail, as he chases down a rogue agent (Clifton Collins Jr) who’s been killing journalists. While initially at odds, it doesn’t take long for the two to team up, giving Dobrev a solid chance to show off her action chops.

Director Mohamed Diab is no stranger to mind-bending sci-fi, having helmed last year’s Marvel series “Moon Knight.” Deadline reports that the filmmaker will next tackle Leap, a high concept thriller that traps passengers of a high speed train in a time loop.
The sci-fi thriller is penned by writer Ben Ripley and produced by The Picture Company.
Leap is “set aboard the Eurostar train which runs high-speed between London and Paris. Leap is a high-concept action-thriller with a grounded sci-fi idea at the center. The story follows a daring rescue mission to save one of the train’s passengers, who is trapped onboard in a never-ending time loop.”
Diab broke out last year on Disney+ series “Moon Knight,” which centered on Oscar Isaac’s character, “an ex-Marine turned mercenary whose multiple alter egos allow him to better fight crime.” The split personalities integral to the series demonstrates that Diab...

“Talk to Me” has emerged as one of the biggest horror phenomena of 2023. The twisted seance-gone-wrong story — which marks the directorial debut of YouTube stars Danny and Michael Philippou — made a buzzy debut at the Sundance Film Festival before turning into a theatrical hit in the dog days of summer. The success proves that its first-time directors are anything but a gimmick — and a sequel has already been announced. If that wasn’t enough, the Australian film has earned the endorsement of New Zealand’s biggest genre filmmaker, Peter Jackson.
The “Lord of the Rings” director — who cut his teeth making gory independent horror films before turning his attention to the Middle Earth and restoring documentary footage — released a statement praising the film for its shock value and intensity (via NewsHub).

Pretty Woman, My Best Friend's Wedding, Notting Hill, and Runaway Bride were all smash rom-com hits delivered by the one and only Julia Roberts in the decade of the 90s. Some of the biggest blockbusters of the era, these films made Roberts one of the most bankable stars in the history of cinema at the turn of the millennium. But, did you know that she was also very successful in thrillers as well? With entries like Flatliners, Sleeping with the Enemy, The Pelican Brief, and Conspiracy Theory, the megastar cashed in quite a bit in the dramatic genre, too, and starred opposite some of the industry's most serious actors. Even though it's the hugely successful rom-com that she is widely remembered for, let's take a look at some of the films that rightfully earn Julia Roberts the title of 90s Thriller Queen.

The cast of Juror No. 2 is coming together with a big name coming on board. Per THR, it's been revealed that Kiefer Sutherland has signed on for a role in the film from director Clint Eastwood, billed as the Hollywood icon's final directed film. Sutherland joins previously announced cast members Nicholas Hoult (Renfield), Toni Collette (Hereditary), and Zoey Deutch (The Politician). Word is the script, penned by Jonathan Abrams, has been collecting dust for the past 15 years before Eastwood caught wind of it last year and chose that to be the last movie he'd direct.
Details have also been revealed about the plot and characters. The film "follows family man Justin Kemp (Hoult) who, while serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma … one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict — or free — the wrong killer." Dr. Charles is one of Chicago Med's most popular characters, and the actor that plays him is a celebrated performer with scores of recognizable credits. Co-created by TV legend Dick Wolf, Chicago Med is a wildly popular spinoff of Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D., and together the shows form a larger shared universe with tons of characters. Chicago Med has often been praised for its writing and unique spin on the hospital drama formula, but it is the show's robust cast of characters that truly makes it stand out. Dr. Daniel Charles is just one small part of a much larger ensemble, but he is nevertheless a compelling figure.
Appearing in over 100 episodes of the long-running TV series, Chicago Med's Dr. Charles is a fan-favorite character unlike most others in hospital dramas because he is tasked with providing psychiatric care for his fellow doctors. Often shown to be unwaveringly...

Justin Lin may be the foremost director of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, but he's taking a break from the Hollywood big leagues for his next film: an indie movie about the misguided missionary John Allen Chau. Before helming half of the entries in one of the most successful blockbuster series in modern times, Lin directed indie movies that centered on the Asian-American communities of Southern California, including the quirky comedy "Shopping for Fangs" and the Sundance Grand Jury Prize-nominated "Better Luck Tomorrow."
Lin directed "Shopping for Fangs" with Quentin Lee when they were both students in UCLA's film school in 1997. The film marks the acting debut of John Cho, who would go on to work with Lin on his follow-up feature, "Better Luck Tomorrow," as well as years later on "Star Trek Beyond." Christopher Nolan’s Inception is among the most influential sci-fi movies of its time, and it features a hugely talented cast of actors that expertly bring the film’s narrative to life. The story takes place in a dystopian future, where ‘extractors’ have the ability to enter their target’s mind and retrieve important information at the wish of their clients. Inception follows two of these extractors as they journey deep into their target’s subconscious, gradually falling further and further into their dreams until they’re putting their own existence on the line. It’s a thrilling adventure from start to finish, and it practically reinvented the sci-fi genre using its complex filmmaking techniques.
Nolan’s bold storytelling is a highlight of Inception, and it’s through his complex characters that he really allows the story to shine. Despite being one of Christopher Nolan’s most confusing movies, Inception...

Sylvester Stallone reveals what he feels is the most underrated movie in his filmography. Stallone's career has seen him tackle various prominent roles and franchises, like Rocky, Rambo, and The Expendables. He's also known as an action star, having made films like Tango & Cash, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger. And while the actor has also appeared in films where he seemed out of place, like Rhinestone or Oscar, he has a unique thought about his most underrated movie.
While speaking with THR, Stallone was asked about the most underrated movie from his lengthy career, with the actor choosing 2000's Get Carter remake. He calls the movie a "big disappointment," saying that "tremendous nostalgia" was attached to the original film that hindered the remake's performance. While Get Carter didn't impress much upon its release, it left an indelible mark on Stallone. Check out Stallone's comments on Get Carter below:

Despite having his own history with the genre, The Blair Witch Project even terrified Kevin Bacon, says Smile actor and daughter Sosie Bacon. The elder Bacon actor rose to stardom with his role in the original Friday the 13th as one of Mrs. Voorhees before going on to appear in the horror genre a variety of times the following couple of decades, including Joel Schumacher's Flatliners, Ron Underwood's Tremors and David Koepp's Stir of Echoes. The past few years have seen Bacon back in the horror field with the likes of You Should Have Left and They/Them.

After dominating the box office for three straight weeks, Kevin Bacon is showing his support for Smile and his daughter Sosie Bacon's success. The phenomenal success of "Footloose" launched Kevin Bacon into newfound stardom and recognition when it danced its way into theaters in February of 1984. Bacon had already appeared in "Friday the 13th" and Barry Levinson's coming-of-age classic "Diner," but the role of Ren McCormack essentially made the young heartthrob a household name. The surprisingly dark bike messenger drama "Quicksilver" came next, a movie I personally love that didn't exactly light the box office on fire. Working with John Hughes and Christopher Guest on "She's Having a Baby" and "The Big Picture" produced two quality films that showcased Bacon as an unconventional leading man; however, neither movie broke through to the mainstream.
The heat generated from "Footloose" was burning out, and Bacon, in a recent EW interview, admitted he wasn't doing well financially when the creature feature "Tremors" came his way.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Julia Roberts was one of the dominant Hollywood stars for a good twenty-year period. From her breakout role in 1988’s Mystic Pizza, Roberts skyrocketed to the top of the A-list when she starred opposite Richard Gere in Garry Marshall’s Pretty Woman. An unlikely Cinderella story about an escort that falls in love with a high-powered executive, it’s a movie that is definitely a Hollywood fairytale, but one that a lot of people loved in 1990, with it being one of the year’s top-grossing movies. From there, Roberts made a string of hits, including Flatliners, The Pelican Brief, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Notting Hill and many more, but respect in more heavy vehicles eluded her. Movies like Mary Reilly and Michael Collins were embarrassing for how miscast she was, and for awhile, it looked like she would be stuck doing...

“Smile,” despite its sunshine-y name, is currently scaring the hell out of America.
The original Paramount horror movie debuted at #1 at the box office this weekend. And for good reason – it’s really scary! “Smile,” from writer/director Parker Finn, follows a young doctor named Rose (Sosie Bacon), who uncovers an insidious curse after one of her patients murders herself in front of Rose.
“Smile” recently had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest, an international film festival in Austin, Texas that specializes in genre movies. Known for its raucous crowds, Bacon told TheWrap what that first screening was like.

This Star Wars: Andor article contains spoilers.
Andor takes Star Wars in a completely new direction than we’ve ever seen before. Cassian’s origin story opens not with talk of Jedi and Sith, or a civil war between the Empire and the Rebellion, but with a common crook who’s down on his luck and desperate. The opening minutes that play like a neo-noir crime thriller straight out of Blade Runner soon give way to a very grounded story about the folks you don’t normally see in a Star Wars movie, including the blue collar workers who keep the wheels turning on the Empire’s corporate interests. It’s on planets like Ferrix, Morlana One, and Kenari that we meet a whole new cast of characters, the people who shape Cassian’s past and help him become who he needs to be in Rogue One.

Composer Nathan Barr isn’t a name an ordinary person would recognize, but scour his resume and one is bound to find a television show (True Blood, The Americans) or movie (Grindhouse, Hostel) they’ve obsessed over. Now, Barr is taking his talents to Flatliners, the modern remake of the 1990 sci-fi psychological horror film toplined by Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon.
But Barr, who grew up in Tokyo with musical parents and spent much of his career scoring horror films, credits his experience on True Blood, in which he served as head composer for its entire seven-season run, as his breakthrough moment.
“Ever since True Blood, things started to take off,” the 44-year-old industry vet tells Et. “As composers and in many facets of filmmaking, you always need that one person who endorses us and the phone starts ringing. When [creator] Alan Ball hired me on True Blood, that was one of those moments.”

Flatliners is a remake of the 1990 thriller starring Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon and Julia Roberts. This time Ellen Page leads a group of med students playing a dangerous game, with some pretty creepy consequences. But is this revamp an improvement on the 27 year old film or just another dud?

With the thriller Flatliners now playing in North American theaters, last week I landed an exclusive interview with director Niels Arden Oplev. He talked about what it was like helming his first big Hollywood movie, what he learned from test screenings, deleted scenes, if he’d want to release an extended cut on Blu-ray, how the put together his cast, and a lot more. In addition, he revealed why he cut a two minute Kiefer Sutherland scene out of the movie and the way it connected this new Flatliners to the first film. If you’re not familiar with …...

Monday Am: It’s hard to remember when we last had a fierce weekend at the box office, but it’s going down like the 2000 presidential election recount in Florida. “Liar” is a word that rival distribution heads are using to refer to one another as in the past 24 hours. Distributors have submitted their early-morning estimates, and they show that 20th Century/Marv’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle is leading with $16.975M, followed by New Line/Warner Bros.’ It in second with $16.93M.
Universal/Cross Creek’s Tom Cruise movie American Made is third with $16.758M, per the studio’s own early Am figures.
While industry estimates showed It leading yesterday morning, there was word that Kingsman had the lesser Sunday drop, and in fact it did, down 41% with $4.495M from Saturday. It declined 47% on Sunday with $4.1M from Saturday’s $7.83M.

“Flatliners” is dead on arrival. The Ellen Page feature film currently has a 0 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Plot: Five medical students (Ellen Page, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, Kiersey Clemons and Diego Luna) try to unlock the mysteries of the afterlife by experimenting with flatlining. What could go wrong? Review: Flatliners is a remake of the 1990 Joel Schumacher cult classic. Love him or hate him, Schumacher was exactly the right person for it. The remake of the 1990's Flatliners remake is getting torn apart by critics and moviegoers, resulting in a zero percent "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based off of 20 reviews as of this writing. Currently the movie is projecting to make between $5 and $8 million dollars at the box office this weekend with a budget of $19 million dollars, which is not a good sign for a movie that some are calling "the definition of meh." It isn't clear if the studio signed a Do Not Resuscitate contract because it looks as if the Flatliners has flat lined.

In 1990, director Joel Schumacher entered the medical world with his supernatural thriller Flatliners. The story of five medical students who attempt to get a glimpse of the afterlife certainly looked flashy — courtesy of director of photography Jan de Bont — and boasted a discount Brat Pack consisting of post-Lost Boys Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts (her career on fire thanks to Pretty Woman opening months earlier) and Kevin Bacon.

MaryAnn’s quick take… The reboot no one asked for of a movie no one much remembers has landed… and it’s dead on arrival, with nothing new to say and no new way to say it. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m a fan of some of the cast
I’m “biast” (con): tired of all the reboots
I have seen the source material (and I don’t much like it)

The reboot no one asked for of a movie no one much remembers has landed… and it’s dead on arrival. Oh, this new and pointless Flatliners deserves all the terrible death-related puns we can toss at it: “Someone should have put a do-not-rescusitate on the 1990 movie.” “A fate worse than death.” “Brain dead.” “Send it to the morgue.” C’mon, it’s fun!

I'm dumbfounded by the idea of remaking a movie that was no damn good in the first place. Is it the possibility of making it better? The exact opposite happens with Flatliners, an update of the 1990 Joel Schumacher film that became a hit by corralling hot young talent of the day (Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon) into a trippy premise about medical students experimenting with stopping their hearts for a few minutes to see what death is like. Credit Flatliners 2.0, with a script by Ben Ripley of Source Code,...

Hollywood’s defibrillator acumen on long-dormant properties continues with “Flatliners,” only without any real shock to life to justify remaking the 1990 cheating-death thriller starring Kiefer Sutherland and Julia Roberts. Keeping original writer Peter Filardi’s same basic structure of cocky medical students checking into the beyond for a few minutes for ostensibly research-oriented reasons, only to discover the afterlife has aftereffects, Swedish director Niels Arden Opley (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) and new screenwriter Ben Ripley (“Source Code”) serve up a fast-moving but seriously underwhelming and charmless display of young-and-dangerous tropes and paranormal consequences. Where Joel Schumacher at least had the.

Danish director Niels Arden Oplev is still best known for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (what, you mean you don’t remember Dead Man Down?), and he brings the same flat, TV movie aesthetic to this “sequel” to Joel Schumacher’s 1990 sci-horror. The original’s high concept plot is retained and given a 21st century makeover – although it’s still as hokey and dumb as Schumacher’s film, and once again fails to capitalise on its central conceit.
The premise of Flatliners is that a young med student, Courtney (Ellen Page), comes up with the bright idea of having her heart stopped, then started again, under controlled conditions. She employs the help of a group of fellow students, who see the experiment as a shortcut to bountiful medical careers.

If only its irony were the most painful thing about “Flatliners,” an artless and agonizingly boring remake of a semi-forgotten movie about the dangers of bringing things back from the dead. Lazily recycling the ’90s schlocky Joel Schumacher thriller of the same name (once a staple of video store shelves everywhere), this lifeless new version hits all the same beats as the original, but does so without a speck of the baroque style that made it such a fun thing to rent on a Friday night. At a time when making a movie — any movie — can feel like experimenting with life after death, there’s really no reason to belabor the point.
The story begins in the present day, nine years after Courtney (Ellen Page) accidentally killed her little sister in a car crash. Now an exhausted med student at a prestigious teaching hospital that seems to accept people based...

How many "Do Not Resuscitate" jokes will be made about Flatliners, Hollywood's latest attempt to bring a long-forgotten hit back from the dead for an audience raised on reheated cultural leftovers? A few, no doubt. But at least this remake (not a sequel, as previously reported) can in theory cite a reason for its existence: Joel Schumacher's 1990 original, cast with some of the hottest up-and-coming stars of its day (and also William Baldwin), glossed its actors up with an overheated visual style, but it displayed less visual imagination in its expressionistic near-death sequences, leaving room for improvement by a...

This weekend brings the remake of “Flatliners,” Joel Schumacher’s 1990 thriller that starred Julia Roberts. Reviews are universally terrible for this retread of good-looking med-school students who put life-after-death on repeat, but it was a nail-biter for studio Sony Pictures from the outset: They took the risk of making an honest-to-god remake.
A remake sounds like the safest bet there is; isn’t original, untested IP the thing that studios fear most? However, in this market a true remake is what passes for a gamble. They’ve become a box-office rarity.
While none of this year’s top-grossing films are originals, there are very few genuine remakes. Yes, the year’s biggest movie, “Beauty and the Beast,” is a direct remake of the 1991 classic — but it went from animated to live action. (It was not a remake of the multiple live-action films and TV shows that preceded it, which stretch...

Back in 1990, Flatliners made a bit of a splash (grossing the equivalent of $114 million today) largely due to historical accident: It happened to be audiences’ first opportunity to see Julia Roberts after Pretty Woman made her an instant superstar. As psychological horror, the movie didn’t quite work, squandering a…

The new Flatliners? Best not.
You can probably think of all the best and worst puns that we could load into this review without even seeing Flatliners. So, with apologies in advance, there's no better way to describe Niels Arden Oplev's mis-sold remake than this - it just lies there on the slab.
1990's Flatliners is a sci-fi inflected psychological horror, directed by Joel Schumacher and boasting an all-star cast. In the original, Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt and William Baldwin star as medical students who conduct ill-advised experiments on themselves in the hope of proving that there is life after death.
In the 2017 version, it's Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton and Kiersey Clemons in the lead roles. The likeliest reason it wasn't shown to critics ahead of release is because, bizarrely, it's not the sequel that we've been led to believe it would be,...

Smart, self-aware and groundbreaking, the cinema of the 1990s is worth getting nostalgic over. No wonder studios are so keen to resurrect it

Cinema is once again mining its recent past for hits. Joel Schumacher’s 1990 medic-goth thriller Flatliners is the latest cult classic to be remade for a contemporary audience. Almost three decades on, the original – in which a group of medical students deliberately kill and then revive themselves in order to report back on the afterlife – resembles in parts a crossover episode between Buffy and Holby City. But in the shiny 2017 sequel, the gritty, steamy streets have been replaced by brightly lit high-rises, its rudimentary computers have been given an upgrade, and the astonishing amount of angular yet floppy hair sported by Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon and Billy Baldwin has been closely cropped for more austere times.
