Jimmy Conway actually went by the name "Jimmy Burke". In the book "Wiseguy", the only known piece of information on Jimmy's actual family is that he "was born to a woman named Conway".

When Tommy shoots Spider he is behind the bar putting ice in the drinks. The next shot he is meters in front of the bar and falls back into it.
A television version of the film was prepared by director Martin Scorsese, which retained a good portion of the film's graphic violence. It also retained much of the profanity, minus the F- and S-words, which were dubbed over. Scorsese did a televised introduction upon the film's network premiere.
