While two of Monty Python’s most famous former members, Eric Idle and John Cleese, are embroiled in a very public feud, it wasn’t always this way. In recent weeks, Idle has been vocal about how he feels the Monty Python estate is being handled, with him targeting Terry Gilliam and his daughter, Holly, who manages the rights, directly. John Cleese jumped to their aid, writing on X (perhaps in a tongue-in-cheek way) that (referring to Idle) “we always loathed and despised each other, but it’s only recently that the truth has begun to emerge.”
Now, this might need to be taken with a grain of salt, as Cleese has a notoriously dry wit. Let’s not forget that he eulogized his best friend, Graham Chapman, by saying, “Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard! I hope he fries.” That was lovingly tongue-in-cheek, although Idle and Cleese always...

Renowned Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane died at 72, his agent, Belinda Wright, confirmed to Popsugar on Oct. 14. The actor and comedian, best known for his iconic role as Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, had been in poor health for the past two years. On Oct. 25, Deadline reported that Coltrane died following multiple organ failure. At the time of his death, the actor, who had also been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, had been suffering from sepsis, a lower respiratory tract infection, and heart block. Representatives for Coltrane did not immediately respond to Popsugar's request for comment.
As the half-giant, half-wizard, Coltrane won the hearts of millions of fans who remember him as the kind-hearted and lovable groundskeeper at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. "[Robbie] brought joy to children and adults alike all over the world, prompting a stream of fan letters every week for over 20 years," Wright said. "For me...

Even before it was out of post production, Habit (not to be confused with the 2017 cannibal film of the same name), was stirring up controversy. According to Variety, it was the subject of a petition due to its casting. Specifically the casting of Paris, daughter of Michael, Jackson as a lesbian Jesus. Whether it was the product of legitimate outrage or a bit of marketing it certainly got Habit noticed. And since I’m reviewing it, it obviously didn’t stop its release. Although maybe it would have been better if it did rather than being responsible for it getting a distributor.

If nuns make you nervous, you’re not alone. Whether it’s their distinctive religious attire, their unwavering devotion to a higher power, or their reputation for meting out corporal punishment in Catholic school, it’s hard to deny that there’s something vaguely eerie about them at times. As the new supernatural horror film “The Nun 2” prepares to haunt theaters on Sept. 8, here’s a look at 20 other movie nuns that are guaranteed to give you the creeps.

The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Audiences first met the eerie title character of “The Nun” in the sequel to James Wan’s horror hit “The Conjuring.” Sporting a ghostly complexion, a bad attitude, and a mouthful of rotting fangs that would make Pennywise the clown jealous, the Nun is referred to by several names throughout the film, including the Marquis of Snakes, the Defiler, and the demon Valak.

I love living in the middle of a horror renaissance. After an extended period in the cinematic wilderness, horror movies are ruling the roost at the box office and finally getting the critical appreciation and attention they deserve. Just this week, we’ve seen a trailer for the Suspiria remake and an awesome first glimpse of Halloween. Now, it looks as though we’re set to get a third highly anticipated trailer next Wednesday, as we’ll finally be able to lay eyes on The Nun.
The news comes straight from director Corin Hardy’s mouth via Twitter, where he posted the following message: “You. Have. Been Warned.” Okay, I’ve been warned. Now release the trailer already!
The upcoming film revolves around the demonic nun that first spooked audiences in The Conjuring 2, delving into the character’s horrific origins. The synopsis teases us further, explaining that the plot...

The number of “nun comedies” is fairly small — “Sister Act” and “Nuns On The Run” come to mind, and that’s about it — but the genre is about to get shaken up with the raunchy, foul “The Little Hours.”

On December 13, 1985 Paramount Pictures released Clue: The Movie, the feature film ‘adaptation’ of the popular Parker Brothers board game which was directed by Jonathan Lynn and was brought to life by a top-notch ensemble of talent including Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn, Michael McKean, Lesley Ann Warren, Martin Mull, Eileen Brennan, and Colleen Camp.
Clue was a remarkable film for many reasons- many of which we’ll get to shortly- but its greatest feat just might be that, even though it was released some 30 years ago now, it still remains one of the greatest exercises in farcical comedy ever that has continued to grow in popularity over the decades.
At the time, Clue was an unusual venture for a studio; these days, it’s not uncommon to base a film upon a board game (Battleship, Jumanji or Zathura being modern examples) but in the early 1980’s, such an idea...

Simon Pegg cannot save this bleak comedy, which looks and feels as if it was made in the mid-80s
There can be no more alarming words on a movie poster than “And Robin Williams as the voice of Dennis the dog”. Simon Pegg – immensely talented man, catastrophic at choosing star vehicles – plays a mild-mannered schoolteacher given miraculous powers by a council of CGI aliens voiced by Terry Jones and his former Monty Python colleagues. Said powers include telekinetic command of dog poo. It’s a bleak, faintly squalid romp that looks and feels as if it was made in the mid-80s – the worst movie involving ex-Pythons since Nuns on the Run. Watch absolutely anything else.

If I told you that someone told me a story where the nuns were the villains, you’d scoff. Nuns, as the bad guys? What kind of topsy-turny world is this? Nuns can be casually cruel, wrapping your knuckles with a ruler if you step out of line in school, or they may occasionally harbor actual criminals (Nuns on the Run, Sister Act), but villains? Never. Well, the way the Vatican reacted to a group of American nuns advocating for the poor, the sick and the disenfranchise – you know, the stuff the church is supposed to be about – you’d think that Sister Simone, Sister Jean and Sister Chris were the Joker, Penguin and Two-Face of Catholicism.
You don’t need to read between the lines to tell that director Rebecca Parish has affection and respect for the three sisters she’s following. Of course, it’s not hard to like a nun.

We certainly felt the power of 10 former Gladiators yesterday, as we took a look at what some of the stars went on to after the success of ITV's '90s hit.
We were bowled over to discover that Blaze (Eunice Huthart) is a stunt double to A-listers and godmother to Angelina Jolie's daughter Shiloh, and that Rhino (Mark Smith) went on to star in Hollywood films including Ben Affleck's Oscar-winning drama Argo.
But whatever happened to the villainous Wolf or the infamous Shadow, who was dramatically sacked from the series? We haven't found many current pictures of this lot, but here's a little bit about what 9 more of our favourite former Gladiators got up to after their time on the show:
1. Scorpio (Nikki Diamond)

Spirituality in cinema has been expressed in various ways where the feel-good aspect of faith-based films are put to great use for emotional manipulation. The triumph and tragedy of religious themes in the movies have never been championed as much as when the protagonist at the helm is a loving nun. Film nuns come in all varieties: nurturing, helpful, complex, obstinate, crusading and flawed.

The announcement that the remaining members of Monty Python’s Flying Circus were reuniting took us all by surprise, and rightly so. For comedy nerds this is our ‘Free as a Bird’ moment, this is the reunion declared impossible (as indeed a true reunion is, with the death of Graham Chapman in 1989), and not since 1998 in Aspen (when Chapman’s ashes were kicked across the stage) have they appeared together on stage.
Indeed even the last series of the television show did not include a full complement of Pythons, jettisoning the Flying Circus and John Cleese who was already keen to do other things. Thankfully the mercurial genius which inspired such beautiful lunacy survived the small screen and the team would go on to jump in and out of each other’s projects as they each grew as writers, performers and directors. Indeed they are scheduled to appear in Terry Jones...

One minute he's avuncular, the next there's a hint of menace. Robbie Coltrane's no-nonsense edge is never far from the surface
Robbie Coltrane has the most enormous feet, like two cross-Channel ferries moored at the bottom of his shins. Luckily, however, his son has excellent taste in trainers. "He recommended these and they are the coolest, most comfortable shoes. My son used to be a skater boy and it's great because I go down to these trendy kind of skater boy places and say: 'I'd like a pair of Vans, please. If you haven't got them, then I'll have the Circa 152s' and they look at you as if to say: 'Are these for you, sir?' and you say: 'They are, actually; they are, actually, so take your pimples over there and get me a box of them, why don't you, if you can do that without your spots bursting.

After stealing the show in the first series, Jessica Lange is back taking centre stage as twisted nun Sister Jude. A woman of stern faith (and fan of corporal punishment) she is grappling with many un-nun like demons of her own. With a fondness for red lingerie and fantasies about Monsignor Timothy O’Hara (Joseph Fiennes) could this role land her with another Emmy? Our money says yes. Here is a list of some of our favourite fictional nuns…

Sorry folks, but this review begins with one of those “I was there when...” anecdotes.
Oddly enough though, it's probably the most terrified I've been when watching Doctor Who, even more than when I was three years old and running out of the room screaming at the title music. No – this time, I was fearful of the much-touted revamp being a complete dog's dinner.
So there I was with my wife Ally, along with our friends Jacqui and Richard. It was, I think, the Saturday of the Easter weekend. We'd heard all about the big, exciting launch of Doctor Who, now bang-up-to-date for a 21st century take on a show that had once been scorned at for being cheap old hat. My expectations were not particularly high, to say the least.
And out of all of us, I was the only Who fan in the building – Ally, Jacqui and Richard...

Two classic cult films of early 80's British cinema are about to get Hollywood reboots reports Variety.
First up is Terry Gilliam's 1981 effort "Time Bandits", the eccentric and dark fantasy tale about a young boy and a group of dwarves who use a stolen map to find and steal treasures from across history.
Former Handmade Films execs Guy Collins and Michael Ryan are in talks with a Hollywood co-producer to reinvent the property as a big screen kids action franchise, likely losing all the eccentric touches that Gilliam brought to the film along the way.
The pair, and Fred Hedman, are also in talks with director Paul McGuigan about turning John McKenzie's 1980 gangster classic "The Long Good Friday" into a TV series. Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren starred in the original about a Cockney gang boss threatened by Irish terrorists moving in on his territory.

Daniel Craig's appearance in heels may be a cross-dressing first for the Bond hero but he follows a long tradition of gender role swapping from a tuxedo-clad Marlene Dietrich to Dustin Hoffman's Tootsie
Daniel Craig's appearance in heels, blonde wig and patterned dress for a video raising awareness of gender inequality for International Women's Day marks 007's drag debut. But cross-dressing is not, strictly speaking, new to the Bond franchise – remember the Spectre agent who attends his own faked funeral as his "widow" at the beginning of Thunderball? – and far from a novelty on the big screen.
The silent era, with its often stagey film productions, had its share of cross-dressing in the theatrical tradition, which continued into the sound era with numerous variations and embellishments. Generally speaking, girls dress as boys to get kinds of social access or agency normally denied to women while boys dress...

It's odd what films make you a believer in the auteur theory. A few years before I had ever heard of Andrew Sarris or really started to dig into Cahiers du Cinema, I had watched a review of the Michael Richards-Jeff Daniels comedy "Trial and Error" on "Siskel and Ebert" where Roger Ebert showered praise on the film's attention to detail, particularly how Charlize Theron looked both ways for traffic before crossing the street. The film was the second courtroom-set comedy directed by Jonathan Lynn, a journeyman if there ever was one after coming to the U.S. following a career in British television (most notably as a writer on "Yes, Minister").
This is worth mentioning since "Wild Target" bears all the hallmarks of Lynn's best films, despite being, even at a tidy 90 minutes, a bit too long. It is silly but not stupid, conforms nicely with the conventions of screwball comedies,...

Warner Bros. took a risk. Its key poster for "The Town," Ben Affleck's new movie about a gang of Boston bank robbers, featured a startling image: Gun-wielding, masked nuns in front of an armored van.
If it hadn't beaten expectations and opened as the weekend's No. 1 movie, the Monday morning quarterbacks probably would have dismissed the marketing move as a misguided effort that looked more like "Nuns on the Run" by way of screaming-man artist Edvard Munch.
But in the wake of "Town's" $23.8 million bow, Warners scored a genuine hit, Affleck buffed up his bona fides as a director, and the debate has begun over whether the movie will develop the momentum that will take it into Oscar season. (Check out the film's trailer here.)

As far as action/comedies go, the feature looks pretty solid. Besides, how can you go wrong with a movie helmed by the guy who directed “Clue” and “Nuns on the Run”? Don’t answer that. Plot synopsis, ahoy: Victor Maynard is a middle-aged, solitary assassin, who lives to please his formidable mother, despite his own peerless reputation for lethal efficiency. His professional routine is interrupted when he finds himself drawn to one of his intended victims, Rose. He spares her life, unexpectedly acquiring in the process a young apprentice, Tony. Believing Victor to be a private detective, his two new companions tag along, while he attempts to thwart the...
