Sylvie’s character is a bit harsher than Loki’s. She was taken by the Tva as a child and became a kind of Temporal Terrorist by the time she met Loki. Yet, her intentions were good.
She had a big impact on Loki’s growth, inspiring him to take the path he did, seemingly freeing everyone from He Who Remains’ control.
Certainly, many fans feel that ‘Loki’ offers rich thematic material to explore. A potential focus for season 3 could be Sylvie’s journey. It would be intriguing to witness her newfound freedom and purpose, perhaps with a hint of mischief, staying true to her Loki nature.
At the FYC Emmy screening and Q&a in Beverly Hills’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater, Sophia shared insights about ‘Loki’ season 3, admitting she’s just as clueless as the rest of us.

Find out what she said inside…
“I think it would be great to see Sylvie and Thor,” she told Variety‘s Marc Malkin. “I think it would be fun to see them get wound up, especially if Loki is in the equation. Three siblings together? The dynamic would be interesting.”

Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany in ‘Chucky’ season 3 (Photo by: Syfy)
Jennifer Tilly’s relationship with Chucky has lasted longer than most celebrity marriages. She was the Bride of Chucky in 1998. Thanks to 2004’s Seed of Chucky, Tilly has been playing herself in the series, too. And I’ve been talking to her since before Seed, and even moderated a Bride screening Q&a she attended.
So when I saw Tilly at the NBC Universal party for the Television Critics Association, Tilly saw my badge and said, “Oh, it’s Fred Topel, I have to talk to him.” Season three of Chucky left off with Tiffany (Tilly) in prison for the murders she committed in Jennifer Tilly’s body. Spoiler warning for past episodes of Chucky, and the twist of Fight Club if you’ve never seen that.
Chucky returns Wednesday at 10 p.m. on Syfy and USA.

The long-gestating sci-fi remake of Fantastic Voyage, which could pair James Cameron with Guillermo del Toro, is still on the cards, according to the Avatar director.
According to James Cameron, his long-gestating remake of Fantastic Voyage is still happening. That in itself is newsworthy given how long Cameron has been talking about this project. The filmmaker wrote a screenplay for the film decades ago, but in the wake of Titanic's success in 1997, he became transfixed with realising the alien world of Pandora onscreen and with the exception of a couple of documentary films, has only released two Avatar films in the quarter century since.
As far as Fantastic Voyage goes, Cameron’s plan has long been to produce the film, with Gullermo del Toro being the man to direct it. We’ve seen Cameron ‘godfather’ films before while working on the never-ending production of the Avatar films, not least...

Exclusive: Several sources tell Deadline that the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema circuit is up for sale.
The news comes about a week and a half before CinemaCon, the major studios and exhibitors’ annual love-in in Las Vegas. I’m told that some studios have heard the sales pitch for the cinephile circuit, which counts 41 locations across 13 states. No bidders as of yet.
Also, there’s no word on an asking price for Alamo Drafthouse. However, the Tim League-founded chain cleared $134M at the 2023 box office, +25% over 2022, per box office intel. That percentile jump is higher than the actual domestic B.O. rise of 22% between those two years; the 2023 B.O. for U.S./Canada hit $9 billion.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema typically touts a gift store of cinema memorabilia, arcade games and DVD rentals, plus a full bar and killer bistro menu with swanky eats and shakes. Also, let’s not forget about...

In his review of the new horror film Immaculate (you can read it Here), JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray said the movie – which reunites Sydney Sweeney with Michael Mohan, who directed her in the erotic thriller The Voyeurs and the Netflix series Everything Sucks! – is “a decent throwback to Dario Argento-style Italian horror movies.” During a recent post-screening Q&a at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Boston Seaport, Mohan also revealed that one particular scene in the movie was inspired by the work one of my favorite grindhouse era filmmakers, Jack Hill – and that same scene also had to be salvaged with the help of Saw X director Kevin Greutert!
Our friends at Bloody Disgusting shared the information from the Q&A, reporting that Mohan said, “The biggest scene that did not work and I’m still not happy with is the scene when Isabelle tries to drown Cecilia. I studied a...

Q&a’s are a staple of indie opening weekends since they tend to sell tickets but Bob and Jeanne Berney’s Picturehouse has raised that bar, offering audiences seven-minute live burlesque revues before selected screenings of documentary Carol Doda Topless At The Condor. The ode to the woman, and to 1960s San Francisco where she broke out topless, opens in limited release in New York, LA, San Francisco and San Rafael. Dancers in what Bob Berney called a “Doda-esqe burlesque” will not be topless,” he said — “but pretty close.”
Dancers start in the audience then move to the front of the theater against a specially designed backdrop of image and sound on screen. “It brings you into that world immediately. You are there before the film starts,” he said.
“Eventizing” a film is great if you can do it. The box office is much better but still a bit weird since Covid.

With The Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling and director David Leitch created a love letter to below-the-line filmmakers, specifically the stunt teams behind big blockbuster movies. Leitch, who is a former stuntman turned director, noted in the post-screening Q&a at SXSW Tuesday that early creative conversations with Gosling led to personal touches being added to the final film.
Gosling plays Colt, a stuntman who, after getting out of the business for a year, is called back into action when the star of a big studio movie suddenly disappears and that big studio movie happens to be directed by his ex (Emily Blunt). Colt gets wrapped up in a murder and cover-up that become much bigger than him or the film he is desperate to get made. Along the way to trying to solve the murder, he gets a sidekick in the form of a dog who only understands commands given in French.

“Don’t worry, I’m not going to sing — I promise” beamed The Fall Guy star Ryan Gosling to a crowded Paramount Theatre in Austin on Tuesday night.

Similar to Amazon MGM’s Road House, this fire-ablazing, cars-a-crashing movie played to loud laughs and big cheers tonight. The start of summer during the first weekend of May is missing a Marvel film, but, wow, this action movie inspired by the hit 1980s TV show is a great backup plan.

Dev Patel, who movie lovers are surely familiar with from his on-screen work in movies such as "Slumdog Millionaire" and "The Green Knight," is beginning a new phase of his career. The actor-turned-director has his feature directorial debut "Monkey Man" coming our way in April (you can check out the trailer right here), and it's an action-packed, wild ride. Patel also stars in the lead role, and it required him to kick a lot of ass. Kicking all of that ass, it turns out, comes at a cost, as he broke his hand early on while filming. But, for various reasons, the show had to go on, broken bone and all.

Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst donned his turn-of-the-millennium apparel for the SXSW world premiere of “Y2K,” the Kyle Mooney-directed teen disaster comedy in which the rapper plays himself.

“Babes,” a new comedy about the highs and lows of pregnancy and early motherhood, received a boisterous welcome at its SXSW premiere on Saturday. The audience frequently broke into sustained waves of laughter as they watched BFFs Eden and Dawn (Michelle Buteau) contend with how Dawn’s second child and Eden’s unexpected pregnancy upend their lifelong, so-close-they-send-each-other-photos-of-their-poops friendship.

The Porta Potty “was on its side, on shocks. Yeah, it was actually bouncing up and down,” Zegler said. “And you can see lovely [co-star] Jaeden Martell here was covering my ear because I kept talking about how I didn’t want water in my ears. Joy-Anna Duggar delivered on her promise of a Duggar sister question and answer session.
Six of the nine Duggar daughters were present. Missing were Jinger Duggar, Jessa Duggar, and Jill Duggar.
The sister session was filled with mostly known facts and was very surface level, which wasn’t surprising as Joy-Anna would never do anything to cross her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.
Some questions asked about hobbies, while others were about family members and other events.
While all of that was semi-interesting, what Joy-Anna did had viewers talking.
Not only was she in the middle of the group with the camera put on her directly, but she also showcased her “dirty feet” and didn’t edit them out.
Joy-Anna Duggar slammed for ‘dirty feet’ in new vlog
Joy-Anna Duggar likes to be barefoot, but it seems she isn’t too keen on cleaning her feet after being outside without shoes.

At the True/False Film Festival, packed with an array of nonfiction films from around the globe, there’s an overarching sense of connection and familiarity that emerges by the end of the four-day documentary showcase. True/False has held court in the charming college town of Columbia, Missouri as a haven for documentary film lovers for 21 years. IndieWire was particularly taken with the conversations that ensued throughout the festival — from Q&As to post-screening chit-chat — as we streamed out of the city’s historic theaters. Subtler conversations arose between the films themselves.
While the settings of the films were varied — Michigan to Mumbai, Armenia to Alphabet City — the best films touched on universal ideas: the connection between art and selfhood, changing political landscapes, and preparations for death and departure from this world. Here are some of the highlights of this year’s festival, all of which are still looking for U.

Doug Liman got a standing ovation at the SXSW premiere of his remake of “Road House” — an event that he originally promised he’d boycott.
Festivalgoers chanted his name — “Doug! Doug! Doug!” — at the end of a post-screening Q&a after star Jake Gyllenhaal called out to the director, who was seated among the crowd.
Gyllenhaal first made Liman’s attendance known while introducing the film, saying, “I want to thank our incredible director. He’s in the audience tonight. He’s been a friend for over 15 years, I’ve wanted to work with him for that time, we’re so lucky. He’s so brilliant and this movie is too.”
Of course, Gyllenhaal also made a point to thank the company that Liman’s boycott was meant to target. Before mentioning Liman or his castmates, the actor said, “We have our Amazon folks here, who have been so fantastic,” mentioning...

Jana Duggar hasn’t been seen much in recent months.
While she has been at gatherings and been seen in passing on some of the family YouTube videos, she keeps a more private life now that Counting On has been canceled.
The former reality TV star and her love life were often a massive focus among chatter online, and speculation about who she was or wasn’t courting constantly made headlines.
After her legal issues went public, Jana stepped back from the spotlight even more. Hanging out with her brothers was the only way she would be seen on social media, and once the Duggars stopped posting for birthdays and filming videos for events, she was able to nearly vanish.
Jana popped up for her nephew Gideon Forsyth’s birthday. Joy-Anna Duggar released her weekly vlog, which included her sisters coming over to stay the night and film a special...

Acceptance is sometimes nothing but tolerance in sheep's clothing. The “family comes first” trope holds weight in many cultures, but this may not matter when one fails to conform to a heteropatriarchal understanding of the concept. Ray Yeung's newest film, “All Shall Be Well”, takes one such instance of this — the case of an older same-sex Hong Kong couple — and unravels a spool of familial complexities embedded deep in the sociocultural landscape. What if your late partner wished to be buried at sea, but her family believes that doing so will spiritually unsettle them all? Do your partner's wishes even matter when you, her life partner, are considered nothing but a mere outsider? This is the first hurdle that our protagonist must face in “All Shall Be Well”, which just made its world premiere in the Panorama section of the 2024 Berlinale to a sold-out crowd at the Kino International.

The incomparable Larry David has never been one to shy away from a bit of self-promotion. And this week’s run-up to the 12th and (allegedly) final season of his long-running HBO comedy, Curb Your Enthusiasm, has been no exception. In fact, from throttling a beloved Muppet to tanking a cringe-inducing interview at his own premiere event, you might say that this time, L.D. has outdone himself. Here’s a look at his wild media appearances ahead of season 12 of the Emmy-winning hit.
Larry vs. Elmo
I don’t think anything like Man Throttles Muppet on Morning Television was an anticipated headline this week. But, well, here we are, after David just couldn’t take Elmo’s take on the importance of maintaining mental health anymore. In the middle of Black Box Diaries, journalist Shiori Ito’s debut documentary, Ito grins at the camera as she strolls through downtown Tokyo on the day of her book launch. It’s October 18, 2017. The New York Times broke the Harvey Weinstein news two weeks ago. Alyssa Milano popularized the hashtag #MeToo two days ago. Ito, fresh-faced and 28, happily recounts these events to the camera. The world may finally be ready to listen to her.
It’s hard to imagine a time before the #MeToo genie was let out of its bottle, but that’s what Ito asks of viewers as they journey back with her to 2015, when she says she was raped by a senior journalist with connections to then-president Shinzo Abe. Through an incredible amount of personal documentation––primarily videos, audio recordings, and journal entries––she grants viewers unprecedented access into her experience as a woman seeking justice for sex crimes in Japan.

Naomi Watts as Barbara “Babe” Paley and Tom Hollander as Truman Capote in ‘Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans’ (Photo Cr: FX)
Tom Hollander (The White Lotus) takes on the lead role of Truman Capote in the second season of FX’s Feud anthology series. Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans focuses on the relationship between the bestselling author of In Cold Blood and the glamorous New York socialites he nicknamed the swans. These high-society women who took Truman into their confidence ultimately learned that spilling the tea to a writer in need of another bestseller was an incredibly ill-advised decision.
Capote took their deep, dark secrets and planned on exposing them for the world to see in his novel Answered Prayers. But Capote learned his swans have vicious bites after an excerpt from the novel was published in Esquire.

In 1947 director Robert Montgomery tried something radical. In adapting Raymond Chandler’s “Lady in the Lake” the director attempted to mirror the first-person narrative style of the book with his camera. The viewer would see the movie exclusively through the eyes of detective Philip Marlowe, while never seeing the detective himself (played by Montgomery) except in shots where he sees his reflection in the mirror.
Both the MGM-released film and the formal experiment were failures. Pure first-person filmmaking had the opposite effect of what was intended, the formal experiment only distanced the viewer. Almost 80 years later conventional filmmaking wisdom remains that to effectively employ point-of-view shots they need to be bracketed by shots of the character — character looks, cut to see what they see, cut back to the character’s reaction to what they saw — to shape what the audience was looking at, and to draw them into the story.

The Sundance Film Festival on Sunday night hosted the world premiere of Aaron Schimberg’s A Different Man starring Sebastian Stan, Adam Pearson and The Worst Person in the World breakout Renate Reinsve in her first American film.
Stan toplines the A24 release as an aspiring actor, Edward, who undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance. But a new face turns into a nightmare when it causes him to lose a dream role he was born to play when the playwright/object of his affections, Reinsve, replaces him with someone who looks nearly identical to his former self, Pearson, a man with a disfigured face.
As for Pearson, he lives with neurofibromatosis (type 1), a rare genetic condition that causes excess body tissue to grow predominantly on his face. The condition fuels the plot of A Different Man and the actor, Pearson, actually inspired the film after having...

Sundance: First Reactions to Kristen Stewart’s “Brutal, Triumphant” Lesbian Pic ‘Love Lies Bleeding’
The official description for Rose Glass’s Love Lies Bleeding on the Sundance Film Festival website calls the A24 pic “an off-the-wall, rambunctious lesbian love story” that “crashes into a family drama of the darkest ilk in this muscular thriller.” It’s also cited for “violence, graphic sexual content and other mature content.”
It’s a pretty spot-on description — plus some surprise scenes best saved for the film’s March 8 release — and the capacity crowd seated inside Park City’s Eccles Theater on Saturday night greeted the world premiere with an enthusiastic response and partial standing ovation. A man seated next to The Hollywood Reporter relayed a single adjective to a friend after the credits rolled: “Crazy.” Other times as the action unfolded, there were cheers, wows, fidgeting as one character’s face is destroyed in an act of violence, and maybe a few laughs at unintended moments.

Anyone who thought this year’s Sundance lineup was a bit ennui, didn’t see A24’s electric Love Lies Bleeding tonight at the Eccles Theatre in Park City, Ut. The Rose Glass directed and co-written lesbian romance crime bender starring Kristen Stewart and Katy O’Brian, drew hoots and hollers and big cheers throughout in an ultraviolent, twisty and turny tale of familial revenge.
Glass was greeted with a standing ovation, and O’Brian huge cheers when she hit the stage. While standing ovations aren’t the standard at Sundance ala Cannes, the applause from credits to cast hitting the stage lasted around a solid three minutes.
By, far the most-nail-biting movie at the festival; it’s not up for sale as A24 already has dibs on the Film4 title. It hits theaters on March 8.

Julia Fox didn’t have much to say during the post-premiere Q&a of Steven Soderbergh’s ghost story Presence on Friday night, but the brief comments that came out of her mouth got a ton of laughs inside the Library Center Theatre — and maybe a few raised eyebrows.
After the credits rolled well past 11 p.m., moderator and Sundance director Eugene Hernandez asked the cast for their reactions to seeing the film for the first time. Standing in front of the big screen and joined by cast mates Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Eddy Maday and West Mulholland, Fox took the microphone as it was passed down the line.

You know the Tolstoy quote about all happy families being the same, but “every unhappy family is unhappy in their own way?” The quartet at the center of Steven Soderbergh’s ghost story Presence has refined their own particular brand of dysfunction to perfection. Considered the first film noir to feature a leading black protagonist, Odds Against Tomorrow is a vital entry in the noir canon. Directed by legend Robert Wise and produced by star Harry Belafonte’s HarBel Productions, the gritty look at racial tension is also one of cinema’s most important films about prejudice. Created amidst growing disquiet in America, the film heralds the explosive events to come at the dawn of the 1960s and the Civil Rights Movement.
The screenplay was based on the novel by William P. McGivern (The Big Heat) and secretly written by Abraham Polonsky, who penned the screenplays for films such as Body and Soul and Force of Evil. Polonsky had been blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee, so Belafonte approached black novelist and friend John O. Killens to serve as the credited screenwriter. There’s a reason music legend Brian Eno has never been the subject of a music documentary: He thinks they’re rubbish.
“I always find them frustrating,” said Eno, zooming into the post-screening Q&a at the January 18 premiere of “Eno,” which is, in fact, a documentary about the musician. “Any documentary I’ve ever seen about anybody I know, I thought has missed out [on] most of the interesting things about them.”
Eno’s larger problem with biography, whether it’s a movie or book, is that even the good ones “trace a sort of single chronological path through and make everything follow from each other.”
Veteran documentary director and producer Gary Hustwit shared Eno’s concerns. So this was his pitch: The documentary would be a different film every time it screened. Rather than the filmmaker making the connections between different aspects of Eno’s life, art, and ideas, digital...

The filmmakers behind Freaky Tales are talking about the experience of working with late actor Angus Cloud in one of his final roles.
The Euphoria actor, who died at age 25 in July, is posthumously onscreen at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in the Anna Boden- and Ryan Fleck-directed feature, which premiered on Jan. 18 in Park City, Utah.
Freaky Tales, which defies traditional genre definitions, has punk rockers fighting neo-Nazis, rap battles featuring real-life pop star Normani, Pedro Pascal as a soon-to-retire fixer, and an entire plot centered on Golden State Warrior All-Star Sleepy Floyd’s performance in the 1987 playoff game against the “showtime”-era Lakers. The film, told in four interweaving chapters, is set in 1987 in Cloud’s native Oakland.

It’s four for four for Jesse Armstrong.
The “Succession” creator and showrunner took home the Emmy for Best Drama Writing on Monday for penning “Connor’s Wedding,” the third episode of the HBO series’ fourth and final season, which featured the shocking death of family patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox). “Succession,” which was the odds-on favorite to win heading into the telecast, beat out episodes from fellow HBO dramas “The White Lotus” and “The Last of Us,” as well as AMC’s “Better Call Saul,” Disney+’s “Andor” and Apple TV+’s “Bad Sisters.”
“Succession” executive producer Mark Mylod was also nominated for directing the episode, which, as the title implies, is set during the nuptials of eldest son Connor (Alan Ruck). Logan’s death, which happens off-screen and in the wake of a confrontation with his children in the previous episode, interrupts the big day, and the four...

The horrors of World War II are not depicted on screen in Jonathan Glazer's new film "The Zone of Interest," easily one of the best films of the year. "The Zone of Interest" takes place largely in the posh, well-maintained home of Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel), which boasts green lawns, a lovely garden, a small pool with a waterslide, and spacious bedrooms. Höss and his family also have a greenhouse and access to a local stream where they swim on sunny days. Höss is also a Nazi commandant in charge of overseeing Auschwitz, a facility that directly neighbors his home. Furnaces, burning up hundreds of human beings, are constantly aflame, and the film's soundtrack booms with the distant fires. Very occasionally, a scream leaks its way in through the Höss family windows.
The Höss family is completely at peace with the death they are complicit in, more concerned with...

In his first interview since standing trial for assault and harassment of ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, actor Jonathan Majors has weighed in on the trial’s verdict, which he said “absolutely shocked” him.
On Dec. 18, Majors was found guilty on one charge of reckless assault in the third degree and on one harassment charge. He was found not guilty, however, on a charge of intentional assault in the third degree and a charge of aggravated harassment in the second degree. (Jabbari had alleged that she was assaulted by Majors in the backseat of a car, with Majors becoming upset when she...

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with The Iron Claw, which tells the saga of the wrestling Von Erich family in two hours.
It begins with Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany), who wrestled in the ’60s. When they were old enough, Fritz got his sons Kevin (Zac Efron) and David (Harris Dickinson) in the ring, eventually training Mike (Stanley Simons) too. Kerry (Jeremy Allen White) only turned to wrestling after his Olympic hopes in 1980 were dashed by the U.S. boycott.
The A24 film is named after the Von Erichs’ signature move, but like any biopic, consolidating the life of its subject requires craft. In the case of the Von Erich family, that meant four brothers were all the film could handle. Youngest brother Chris Von Erich, who took his own life at age 21, is not included.
Writer-director Sean Durkin does not...

Adam Driver is steering clear of journalists asking why he played back-to-back Italian icons.
The actor, who previously starred as Maurizio Gucci in Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci” and recently led Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” as Enzo Ferrari, said during the “Smartless” podcast (via The Wrap) that while playing two Italian characters consecutively wasn’t “strategic,” that’s how it “worked out.”
“So many people have been like, ‘How many Italians?’ I’m like, it’s just kind of worked out that way,” Driver said, noting that perhaps someone on his PR team should have warned him it would “come up a lot” on the press tour for “Ferrari,” but “press isn’t a place where you have a nuanced conversation.”
Driver added that his casting was a “good example of not being strategic in a way that I probably should,” but working with director Mann was impossible to pass up.
