Natives of a small isolated town defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one.
The original screenplay included an additional Perfection resident: Viola, a nagging and hateful old lady, who mostly stayed to herself. She also had an aggressive dog, who barked constantly. She met her demise when the graboids broke through the floor of her house, and ate her off-screen. It has never been officially stated as to why her character was excluded in the film.
Burt Gummer:
Broke into the wrong goddamn rec room, didn't ya you bastard!
When Rhonda is running into the store from the Graboid (after losing her pants), her ankles have no visible cuts, but when she is in there, her ankles have multiple blood trails. However, if cuts aren't deep and don't damage any significant blood vessel, it can take a little while until blood comes out. If the cuts were mostly caused by taking off the pants, it's plausible that they weren't visible for the next 15 seconds that passed until Rhonda ran inside.
The TBS broadcast replaces the profanity with milder words. The shot where Val and Earl find the driller's helmet and brain is shortened because of the violence.
