  • Warning: Spoilers
British TV mini-series, made in 1991 and starring John Hurt, Jane Birkin and Brian Cox, set in France and tells of a British businessman kidnapped by a member of Action directe. (The original novel by Gerald Seymour was set in Italy and involved the Red Brigades.)

Justine (Corinne Touzet) from the French revolutionary group Action directe is one of France's most ruthless political extremists. When she is captured in a shoot-out following a foiled bank robbery, her fanatical young lover, Anatole (Marc Samuel), vows to set her free and, with quiet watchfulness, waits for the moment to strike.

Meanwhile in Paris, British businessman, Geoffrey Harrison (Brian Cox), has been taken hostage by a ruthless organised crime syndicate. The British Government are adamant that they will not pay any ransom demand and discharge responsibility to the French police. As political wrangling takes hold, Anatole sees a weakness and realises that the only way to secure the release of his beloved Justine is to capture and steal Harrison from the organised crime syndicate and bargain his life for hers.
