Catering directly to my interests, the Criterion Channel’s January lineup boasts two of my favorite things: James Gray and cats. In the former case it’s his first five features (itself a terrible reminder he only released five movies in 20 years); the latter shows felines the respect they deserve, from Kuroneko to The Long Goodbye, Tourneur’s Cat People and Mick Garris’ Sleepwalkers. Meanwhile, Ava Gardner, Bertrand Tavernier, Isabel Sandoval, Ken Russell, Juleen Compton, George Harrison’s HandMade Films, and the Sundance Film Festival get retrospectives.
Restorations of Soviet sci-fi trip Ikarie Xb 1, The Unknown, and The Music of Regret stream, as does the recent Plan 75. January’s Criterion Editions are Inside Llewyn Davis, Farewell Amor, The Incredible Shrinking Man, and (most intriguingly) the long-out-of-print The Man Who Fell to Earth, Blu-rays of which go for hundreds of dollars.

On their first collaboration, “Daddy,” Tokischa and Sexyy Red want you to have their babies. Produced by Yeti Beats and El Guincho, the single finds the two fearless provocateurs bouncing between one another with a compelling offer: “Have my baby, latina mami/Yo soy tu daddy.”

Uri Marantz graduated from the Film School in Tel Aviv in mid- 1990s. He directed a number of short films, and was involved in several television projects, both as a writer and creator. He is best known for the hit series “Daddy” that aired on Hot. “Since filmmaking is more or less a hobby in Israel, I had to compromise a lot”, explains the Israeli helmer why it took him that long to direct a feature length movie, adding that he always had a project here and there happening, but that he ended up working in the advertising industry as a copy- and content writer. “My dream of filmmaking was somehow ebbing away”, he says.

The "Nightmare on Elm Street" film series was a hotbed for emerging talent. Many of the directors in the franchise would go on to prolific or interesting careers. Chuck Russell, director of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" would go on to make Hollywood blockbusters like "The Mask," "Eraser," and "The Scorpion King." Renny Harlin, who directed "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master" would likewise enter the Hollywood mainstream with films like "Predator 2," "Die Hard 2," "Cliffhanger," and "Cutthroat Island." Jack Sholder, Stephen Hopkins, and Rachael Talalay also emerged from the series' directors pool.
One can also find a few rising actors at the start of their careers throughout the Freddy Krueger movies. Famously, a young Johnny Depp starred in Wes Craven's 1984 original, and, for "Dream Warriors," Patricia Arquette made her cinematic debut.

Mumbai-based gangster dramas have always been intriguing. There have been plenty of films made on this subject by various directors in the last two decades. Mumbai gangsters are a big part of the city’s history and pop culture. Company, D, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Black Friday, D-Day, and Daddy are some of the films that extensively covered their stories.
Created by Shujaat Saudagar and Rensil D’Silva, the Amazon Prime Series is a period drama that chronicles the rivalry between two threatening gangsters who are adamant about controlling the city and the smuggling business on their respective terms.

Will Ferrell brought his whole family to the "Barbie" premiere in London on July 12. The actor, who plays the CEO of Mattel in Greta Gerwig's surreal film, walked the hot-pink carpet alongside his wife, Viveca Paulin, and their three kids: 19-year-old Magnus, 16-year-old Mattias, and 13-year-old Axel. The event marks the family's first red carpet together since attending the "Daddy's Home 2" premiere in 2017.
Ferrell's entire family coordinated for the special occasion, with two of his sons wearing suits in shades of blue to match their mom's dress. His oldest son, Magnus, layered a purple suit over a floral button-down that matched Ferrell's pink tie. The family were all smiles as they posed together for the cameras. The three boys look just like their father, with Mattias bearing the closest resemblance to the Emmy-winning actor.
In a 2018 interview with Parade, Ferrell revealed that his sons share his sense of humor.

‘Rap Sh!t’ Music Supervisors Spent Three Months Trying to Clear Drake’s ‘No Friends in the Industry’
Issa Rae’s ‘Rap Sh!t” focuses on female friendships, but also female rappers and the challenges facing women in a male-dominated industry. For music supervisors Sarah Bromberg and Philippe Pierre, that meant pulling together a soundtrack of artists that not only reflected Miami’s rap scene but also the strong ties between its main characters.
In the Max show, Shawna has been chasing fame as a solo rapper, and she reunites with her friend Mia (rapper Kamillion) to form a rap duo. Together they navigate success, friendship and the lively city of Miami.
Here, Bromberg and Pierre break down key needle drops in the series and how they spent months trying to clear a Drake song, as well as having to change an original song at the last minute due to clearance issues.
“No Friends in the Industry” – Drake
Bromberg: This was not in the script. They were nice enough to not script Drake.

Yep, this week’s Outlander finally introduces us to the wife that Jamie’s been keeping from Claire… and it’s Laoghaire. If you by some chance are just dropping back into this series after a while (aka if the mention of that name doesn’t instantly invoke a burning rage), she was the young woman at Castle Leoch who had such a huge crush on Jamie, she nearly sent Claire to the stake for witchcraft.

The biggest problem with the DC Comics series on the CW is that they are overstuffed, robbing the title character of the spotlight and forcing them to work as part of a team. The formula can be repetitive and stifling, demanding that the star rise above the noise to get noticed.
As Supergirl moved from CBS where it was a well-reviewed, low-rated buzz series, to the CW, changes had to be made. Calista Flockhart chose not to join the team in Canada so Cat Grant, one of the more interesting members of the cast, was gone but the crappy looking Deo set got a major upgrade.
With Supergirl: The Complete Second Season now available from Warner Home Entertainment, we’re given a chance to evaluate how the sophomore outing went. They certainly aimed high, opening with the inevitable arrival of Supergirl (Melissa Benoist)’s cousin, Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). Of course,...

Lois Lane killed Hercules!
Well, sort of. Actually Rhea killed her husband, Lar Gand, on Supergirl Season 2 Episode 17, but honestly, who didn't see that coming?
Rhea is crazy, and she's clearly willing to do anything to get her son back.
Well, I guess it is safe to say Mon-El is no longer the Prince of Daxam. Daddy's dead, so that makes him the king. Not that he has any interest in claiming his throne.
So far Rhea's unwilling to kill Mon-El, despite the fact that he is against her. It begs the question: why does she care so much?
Does she really, truly love him and this is her twisted way of showing it? Or is there another motive behind her insistence he returns to Daxam?
I understand that Rhea wants to save her home planet and get things back to the way they were, but why can't she do that herself?...

When 2016 soon comes to its grateful end, it will be a record year at the box office. Bringing up the rear are four wide studio releases and a fifth initial expansion with “Sing” (Universal), “Assassin’s Creed” (20th Century Fox), and “Passengers” (Sony) on Wednesday, “Why Him?” (20th Century Fox) on Friday, and the national release of “Fences” (Paramount) on Christmas Day.
They will all play in the wake of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (Disney), which should remain on top through the holidays. Meantime, “Moana” (Disney) and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” (Warner Bros.) will hold and thrive, with the more recent “Office Christmas Party” (Paramount) and “Collateral Beauty” (Warner Bros.) joining the fray.
Top awards contenders like “La La Land” (Lionsgate), “Manchester by the Sea” (Roadside Attractions), and “Jackie” all plan to add new dates, and could do as well or better than some studio releases.

Around three years ago, Zack Snyder swept the rug from under our collective feet and announced that he would be tackling Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We rejoiced, we cried, we hated...but regardless of what camp you belong to in our world of infinite opinions, there was one simple fact no one could ignore: this was going to be an event.
Fast forward to present day: Bvs has come and gone. To many, it was a disappointment. To some, a joy. Regardless of what you think, Snyder has made his decisions and we're stuck with them...but I'm not convinced this is a bad thing moving forward. He's already stated in an interview with Vulture:
"When Batman V Superman came out, I was like, 'Wow, okay, oof. It did catch me off guard. I have had to, in my mind, make an adjustment. I do think that the...

People watch the Super Bowl for different reasons. Some actually watch the game. And some watch just to be social. But everyone watches for the ads. And whether they were previews of things to come or commercial tie-ins, there were plenty of commercials to thrill and inspire us this year. I’ve posted my six faves below and want to know your own. Leave your picks in the comments!
One-way Ticket To Metropolis, Please
One of the more creative tie-ins featured two ads, one with Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor from the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice shilling for Turkish Airlines. Hey, I’d book a seat to Gotham City if the Turks could get me there!

Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn takes centre stage on the new Suicide Squad cover for Empire's December issue.
Wielding a baseball bat and gold stud-encrusted firearm, the anti-heroine looks every inch "Daddy's Lil Monster" - a reference to her supervillain squeeze The Joker, who has his very own cover right here.
"When I got the role I started looking up Harley costumes online, with my mum sitting next to me," Robbie told Empire. "She was like, 'My daughter is going to dress like a prostitute!' There are a lot of angry mothers out there!"
There'll be more furious mums this Halloween, too. Harley is apparently the most Googled-after costume for October 31 celebrations.
Not to be outdone, Robbie's co-star Will Smith also has his own Deadshot cover. Expect his gun-toting Floyd Lawton to enter the film all guns blazing.

Recently, the Daily Beast got to chat up "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" Aquaman star, Jason Momoa (left), and he talked about how much it means to him to be in the new flick, along with the new Justice League : Part 1 movie. It turns out the either the Batman vs Superman or Justice League movies could possibly be in IMAX or maybe both according to Jason's comments, which read like this: "It’s awesome as an actor to know what your future is going to be because I have children and I’ve busted my ass to put food on the table. It’s awesome knowing that I’m going to be in Justice League because my son is the biggest Batman fan and my daughter loves Wonder Woman. Breaking Bad’s amazing final season always meant that it was a likely winner come awards season. However, the debut of the critically acclaimed True Detective earlier this year did leave many wondering whether it might rob the end to Walter White’s story of one final sweep of prizes at last night’s Emmy Awards.
As it turns out, Breaking Bad would end up being rewarded for those amazing final episodes, though True Detective did earn a very well deserved award for director Cary Joji Fukunaga (who helmed all eight instalments).
The UK was represented by Sherlock, and that too did exceptionally well, walking away with Emmys for Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and writer Steven Moffat. Looking at the results, it’s hard to imagine anyone being too upset with the results, though many Game of Thrones fans won’t be happy to see that it was again snubbed.
