  • Jeanna Fine won a deserved Best Actress award for this well-written (by Raven Touchstone) two-part XXX movie about a fan's obsession for a superstar porn actress.

Unlike various cliched mainstream films on this topic, for example the lousy De Niro show "The Fan", director Henri Pachard overcomes the pitfalls of such a familiar tale and creates great empathy and even pathos for Fine's character, a manager of a lingerie boutique who becomes consumed with adoration for Adult star Victoria Paris as Hothouse Rose.

The show features plenty of insider jokes and commentary on the adult biz, with an amusing turn by Fred Lincoln as an overwrought porn director shooting a bondage movie featuring Paris and an uncredited limp-dicked leading man played by Tom Byron. Much of the cast, including Jon Dough as Jeanna's shrink and Nina Hartley as his wife reappear in the sequel alongside several new faces.

Picture takes itself seriously, and as a result holds up quite well some 26 years after its release. Visually, it benefits from having beeh shot on 35mm film and adheres to the concise sex scenes (Fine's especially potent) that used to be the norm before the 21st Century changed the expected content to today's unfortunate 30-minute-plus barely edited and inevitably tedious all-sex vignettes.
