  • Jack Sloan (Peter Weller) is a very successful businessman, from Omaha, Nebraska, who now resides in Paris. Despite his humble, foster-child background, Jack has built himself up to a net worth of $250 million. Yet, he has few friends and a long string of brief romantic encounters that have failed to produce a lasting relationship. Enter Jessie (Carey Lowell). She is a fashion model who meets Jack at an art gallery. Jack is instantly smitten; Jessie has an initial lack of enthusiasm. As the romance kindles, however, Jack becomes worried that Jessie is only after his money. He schemes with a business partner to make it appear that Sloan Enterprises has gone belly up. Now, Jack works at a fast-food joint. Will Jessie stay true?

This endearing but unknown romantic comedy has several things going in its favor. First, Weller and Lowell exude charm and loveliness in abundance. Next, the Paris setting guarantees an attractive background for the story to unfold. Finally, the plot has enough surprises to keep the viewer on his or her toes. No, it's not When Harry Met Sally. But, perhaps, the only true negative aspect of the film is its lack of renown. It may be difficult to locate this little film at video stores and libraries. (This reviewer ordered hers from an on-line bookseller.) Yet, for all those who like their romances with comedy, this is still another choice for those crazy, lazy days.

    Warning: Spoilers
If you've seen one, you've seen them all. VERY predictable and unnecessary/frustrating attempts at plot/relationship twists. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is the filming location.

Typical story about a rich, self made guy who falls head over heels for a girl who won't give him the time of day (as opposed to everyone else who, as he puts it, kisses his a$$). When the girl finally does give him attention, he is questioned by the "one guy he truly trusts" and wonders if it's true love or if her motives are the money. He makes arrangements to look like he's lost the money to tests her loyalty, only to later find out he's been swindled. Will he get the girl in the end? Will he get his money back? Will he get revenge on the swindler? Like I said, it's predictable...

I did not find the couple match-up believable and character development was slow, shallow, and painful. The acting was also a bit over the top at times. Only watch this if nothing else is on and you feel like wasting an hour and a half of your time.
  • The on-location photography in Paris helps this romantic twister out quite a bit. Peter Weller tries to test the feelings his girl-friend has shown for him by suddenly becoming poor, but that's only the beginning. Fairly well acted, especially by Carey Lowell, a new-comer to me. Well worth a look-see by anyone who likes romance with a twist or two.
