A sequel to ‘The Batman’ was officially announced at CinemaCon in April 2022, with Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves returning. By August, Mattson Tomlin had joined as co-writer, and the film was initially titled ‘The Batman – Part II’ in early 2023.
However, by late 2024, the title was dropped as Reeves continued working on the script. Key cast members, including Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as Penguin, are set to reprise their roles.
So far, the movie has been delayed 2 times in total and is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Matt Reeves gave us an update on the script a few months ago, saying it’s still not finished but filming is expected to start in late 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.

This post contains spoilers for "Nosferatu."
What better way to celebrate the festive season of 2024 than with a supernatural horror nightmare. With "Nosferatu," director Robert Eggers resurrected a vampire classic in the form of a scary fever dream just in time for Christmas of last year, reimagining the original 1922 film as a stylish horror with a sort of perverse fairy tale at its center. In Eggers' film, the titular vamp, played by Bill Skarsgård, lusts after Lily-Rose Depp's Ellen Hutter, eventually traveling from his decaying castle in the mountains of Transylvania to her hometown of Wisburg, Germany. There, he feeds on her blood in a pseudo-sexual embrace that ultimately results in his death when the sunlight interrupts the pair's perverse tryst.
If upsetting vampire love affairs aren't your thing, Eggers made sure to do what he does best by constructing a world that absorbs you so fully, you genuinely...

Spectacular and breathtaking, Birdman is an exhibition of magic realism.
Michael Keaton stars as an aging Riggan Thomson, once famous for playing a superhero called Birdman, a superhero franchise which had its last film in 1992, [which interestingly is also the year Michael Keaton’s 2nd Batman film released] and is now desperately looking for a comeback by appearing in a Broadway play.
Twenty-two years after Tim Burton made his last Batman film with Michael Keaton, who would have thought that the near-extinct Keaton would resurface in such a hauntingly beautiful fashion and deliver the most outstanding performance of his career? Michael Keaton was arguably the most deserving candidate for last year’s Academy Award for Best Actor. However, he lost to a brilliant performance by Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything.
Birdman is so similar to Keaton’s life in films that I wonder if director Alejandro González Iñárritu wanted to cast a washed-up superhero actor to play the...

Valentine's Day is almost here. And you know what that means? Captain America: Brave New World is almost upon us! (What did you think I was going to say?)
The upcoming movie is one of the most anticipated of the year, which isn't surprising considering it's a Marvel Studios production, but there is a lot going on with this one. It's the fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Captain America movie series, but it's also something of a reboot. Anthony Mackie, who made his MCU debut as Sam Wilson, a.k.a. The Falcon, in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier takes over the titular mantle, replacing Chris Evans' Steve Rogers as the title hero.
Mackie, who now stars as the seminal Marvel Comics hero, is not shy about opinions. He'll share what he thinks and tell you why. As nerds, we appreciate that in an actor for certain.

Clark Gregg, even if he lives to be 100 and works until his final day as an actor, will forever be known best as Agent Coulson. The actor helped kick off the Marvel Cinematic Universe during Phase 1 as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., culminating in a pivotal role in 2012's "The Avengers," one of the biggest and most important movies ever made. He even survived his death to headline seven seasons of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." More than a decade before all of that, though, he wrote one of the biggest hits of 2000.
"What Lies Beneath" was directed by "Back to the Future" legend Robert Zemeckis, with Harrison Ford starring in the lead role alongside Michelle Pfeiffer ("Batman Returns"). It may seem unlikely, but the man behind Agent Coulson did indeed pen a horror/thriller for one...

Batman is one of the most popular superheroes in the world. The incredibly smart, tactical, and disciplined vigilante is one of the few heroes who can stand his ground even amongst overpowered superheroes like Superman, Wonder Woman, and more. His backstory is one of the most loved classics and he has an incredible villain.
The Caped Crusader has been played by numerous actors over the years in both live-action and animation. While his live-action outings have faced controversies regularly, voice actors like Kevin Conroy have cemented themselves as the definitive version of the character. Some actors like Will Arnett have delivered some fresh takes in their iterations.

The Golden God has shaved his heavenly head. He must have booked a movie about Steve Jobs.
If we can be completely superficial and more than a little parasocial for a second, there’s no arguing the fact that, out of all of the men in the core It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia cast, Glenn Howerton has — or, at least, had — the most incredible and manicured crop of hair. Given that his his competition is Danny DeVito, who has been bald on top since Batman Returns, Charlie Day, who always looks like he rolled out of his shared futon five minutes ago, and Rob McElhenney, who slicked back his own voluminous locks to look more like his buddy Ryan Reynolds at some point in the last few years, Howerton’s hair is (or was) the only five-star cut of the bunch.
Then, yesterday, Howerton posted a photo with his wife and D.

Jennifer Garner worked alongside King of New York star Christopher Walken in the family-friendly feature Nine Lives. After their collaboration, Garner revealed whether Walken lived up to his mystique.

Walken took a break from playing more disturbed characters to do Nine Lives. There, he played a whimsical magician and owner of an exotic pet store who couldn’t have been further from Walken’s usual roles. The Pulp Fiction actor worked alongside Kevin Spacey and Garner, who had nothing but kind words about the Batman Returns star. The Elektra star hoped that Nine Lives, where Spacey played a cat, would help reintroduce her older co-stars to a younger generation of movie-goers.

In 1993, "Super Mario Bros." became the first live-action feature film to be based on a video game. It didn't go well. Budgeted at somewhere just south of $50 million, "Super Mario Bros." grossed a meager $20 million in the United States and performed poorly overseas. Its failure was essentially a fait accompli given the behind-the-scenes turmoil that found directors Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton briefly getting locked out of the editing room, but the film itself was the kind of Hollywood debacle that was too weird to disregard. The production design was striking, the creature effects inventive, and the casting utterly bizarre. Bob Hoskins as Mario facing off against Dennis Hopper as King Koopa? This might not seem outré today, but at the time it was bizarre to see respected actors seemingly slumming in what many considered to be a glorified piece of advertising.
As a fervent gamer at the time, I found it odd.

Batman. He's had many names throughout his near-century of dominance in the comic book world; Dark Knight, Caped Crusader, World's Greatest Detective. But, if it were at all possible to sum Batman up in just one word, he could be summed up with this one: Legend.
Few have achieved the levels of iconic that he has, and a large part of the reason for that is his legacy on the silver screen. Bruce Wayne has headlined more movies than any other comic book character, starring in nine solo live-action movies, over 30 animated movies and countless spinoffs and crossovers.
If you're hoping to take a trip to Gotham City to get acquainted with the Batman himself, you might understandably find it a bit overwhelming knowing where to start. But fear not future Gothamite, we have got you covered, with some Batman classics that you should definitely check out (as well as...

What do Kim Novak, Jim Carrey, John Turturro, and the late Donald Sutherland all have in common? Well, aside from being acclaimed actors, these stars have never (we repeat: never) been nominated for an Academy Award. And that crime is now being celebrated by the annual anti-awards season festival, hosted by the Museum of the Moving Image.
The beloved museum announced its third iteration of the popular “Snubbed” screening series, which reexamines films that have been overlooked by the Academy. The 2025 theme is centered on actors and titled “Snubbed Forever: Great Actors, No Nominations.” The program will run February 1 through March 9, and feature 21 films starring actors who have never been nominated for an Oscar.
Highlights include Kim Novak in the enduring “Vertigo,” John Turturro and John Goodman in “Barton Fink,” Rita Hayworth in “The Lady from Shanghai,” Jim Carrey in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” and Danny DeVito in “Batman Returns.

Remember Batman Forever? if you’re old enough, I guess…Joel Schumacher’s first Bat-picture turns 30 this year (yikes). I just happen to be old enough, and I recall the movie being a huge deal even before it came out. Both Batman and Batman Returns were huge hits, Jim Carrey was the trendiest actor alive, and most importantly, no one knew what kind of director Schumacher was yet. His tendency to lean into the silly and campy elements of the Batman mythos would eventually get him punished for defying Edgy 90s Culture, but for those few weeks in the summer of 1995, Batman Forever was hot stuff. And any hit movie got toys — lots of toys! Batman Forever got plastic action figures and a Batmobile and everything. There were plenty of places to sell them too — Toys R Us and Kb Toys and all sorts of massive brick and mortar outlets...

The 1990s were a phenomenal decade for the action movie, with almost every year seeing the release of multiple iconic films in the genre. Many of the best action movies were released in the 90s, the decade simply being something special when it came to dreaming up long-lasting action franchises and memorable one-off thrillers with plenty of heart, humor, and creativity. From 1990 to 1999, some of the greatest names in the space saw their debut for a very lucky generation of movie goers.
The big action movies of the 80s like First Blood and Commando had come and gone by the start of the 90s, with some of them carrying their influence into future action spectacles. However, the 90s also saw a rise of action heroes that were more like relatable everymen compared to the unstoppable muscular juggernauts of the 80s, creating a unique voice for the generation of films. Picking out roles in the entertainment industry isn’t always as easy as A-listers like Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt make it look. There’s always a bit of gamble associated with every project that can turn it into a classic or even tank it at the box office. Ask Michelle Pfeiffer, for the actress has experience in turning down a role that went on to establish Pitt’s career.

DC's cinematic legacy took a significant blow with the release of Joker: Folie à Deux, but its dismal performance at the global box office makes one DC movie look even worse by comparison. Despite starting incredibly strong with a billion-dollar debut, Joaquin Phoenix's Joker suffered a huge loss with his sequel. The divisive second installment picked up with Arthur Fleck incarcerated at Arkham Asylum four years after his murder spree and the televised shooting of Robert De Niro's Murray Franklin, which sparked citywide riots in Gotham courtesy of a newfound legion of advocates rallying against Gotham's elites.
Joker: Folie à Deux is neither DC's lowest-grossing movie nor its worst-rated, earning around the same as the Dceu's Birds of Prey and more than The Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman 1984. John Dutton's body is barely cold, but it's already time to look towards the future of the "Yellowstone" universe. The massively popular Western series created by Taylor Sheridan signed off with a strange, divisive Travis-filled final batch of episodes in December 2024, wrapping up an extended two-year off-season (technically marketed as a midseason) with an ending that saw the Kevin Costner's Dutton family patriarch kick the bucket, with his black sheep son Jamie (Wes Bentley) soon following.
The ending of "Yellowstone" was far from perfect, but the show seeded enough goodwill among hooked viewers over the years that whatever Sheridan does next, it's clear that millions will still tune in. The multi-hyphenate cowboy creative's upcoming filmography is as overstuffed as ever, but in the ever-changing landscape of IP-driven TV production, one forthcoming project seems to be coming together nicely: "The Madison." We still have a lot of questions related...

It began with the spark of a candle in 1941 related to the Max Fleischer Superman cartoons. Wait, a comic book genre?! No one was certain what to think about pages coming to life. The comic book genre has been under siege during "Awards Season" since 1978 when Christopher Reeve made the world believe a man could fly.
Recently, a different Bat signal had been emblazoned across Hollywood's sky, and it is solid gold. Can we stop hating on this genre now?
It probably won't happen as long as people like Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott, Roland Emmerich, and David Cronenberg are helming Hollywood. They're so influential and vociferous against the comic book genre that it tends to make the award bureaus reconsider a person acting in spandex really isn't "acting." As if cosplay doesn't involve imagination.
And so, hate continues against any visual entertainment from comic books and graphic novels.

The top candidates for The Batman - Part II's main villains might not actually appear in Matt Reeves' upcoming DC sequel, but their absence could make them even better antagonists for the third movie. The Batman - Part II's plot details remain under wraps, and its release date has recently been pushed to 2027. Robert Pattinson's Batman, Jeffrey Wright's James Gordon, and Colin Farrell's Oz Cobb are set to return, but no other DC characters or actors have been confirmed yet.
Speculation about The Batman - Part II's main antagonist continues to rise as the Dcu claims more Batman-adjacent characters for its shared universe. For instance, Clayface is unlikely to be The Batman - Part II's main villain now that he's set to star in his own Dcu movie. Delays and setbacks are a part of the creative process of filmmaking, but that doesn’t stop them from stinging any less. This is why the news that Shrek 5 has been postponed is heartbreaking. This said flick would serve as the fifth installment in the fan-favorite animated film series, and was previously expected to hit the screens by next year, i.e. 2026.

The futures of the Batman franchise and the new DC Universe have long been commented on, but a series of updates recently emerged, painting the full picture of where things stand. At the moment, DC has one live-action Batman. That is Robert Pattinson, who plays a younger Bruce Wayne early in his superhero career. After some time with no updates, it has been announced that The Batman - Part II was delayed again. Initially set for a 2025 release, the anticipated sequel to director Matt Reeves' The Batman was moved to 2026 before jumping again to October 1, 2027.
The movie was delayed in part due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, which postponed work on the script, though Matt Reeves says the plan is still to enter production this year. The delays put the movie closer to when Batman's The Brave and the Bold movie was expected to be released. The project is part of the Dcu's Chapter One.

The Batman films of the 1980s and 1990s introduced a whole generation to a swathe of classic DC characters; unfortunately, others were completely squandered. Warner Bros.’ initial four Batman movies introduced several memorable portrayals, like Michael Keaton’s brooding Batman and Jack Nicholson’s devilish Joker. However, they also squandered numerous opportunities with fascinating characters. Whether sidelined, underwritten, or mishandled, these characters represent what could have been.
The 1980s and 90s Batman movies began with Tim Burton’s gothic, noir take in 1989, before the more horror-inspired Batman Returns. Joel Schumacher was hired to direct the third entry, Batman Forever, dropping the overt horror tones for gothic until Batman & Robin, which killed the franchise until Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. The films were defined by their visual flair and larger-than-life characters. Yet, the limitations of the time – ranging from studio interference to overstuffed scripts – meant many characters didn’t get their due.

Creature Commandos is a Dcu project. Veteran director James Gunn fleshed out every detail and nitty-gritty bits of the show before it aired and so, the details are etched in stone. That’s bad news for Robert Pattinson’s Batman.

Or it could be good news for fans of Matt Reeves’ The Batman depending on how you view it. The gist of the discussion is that this crucial detail in Creature Commandos proves that Robert Pattinson’s Batman will not be joining James Gunn’s Dcu.
Robert Pattinson’s Batman is still too young
Not that there are any age requirements for being Batman but with experience, Batman evolves throughout the DC comics as well as in movies and shows too. With that being said, Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne in The Batman is not that old.

Both Marvel and DC should take notice of one of Hollywood’s most effective trends and produce legacy sequels for some classic superhero movies. Legacy sequels have breathed new life into dormant franchises, particularly in the horror genre. With the multiverse now firmly established in superhero cinema, the potential to bring back classic superhero franchises is tantalizing. Whether it’s reuniting iconic casts, expanding beloved narratives, or giving underrated films their due, these legacy sequels could excite both audiences and filmmakers alike.
The concept of a legacy sequel - a continuation of a beloved story decades later, sometimes omitting certain sequels - has proven successful for franchises like Halloween and Top Gun: Maverick. These sequels combine nostalgia with modern storytelling, rekindling interest in franchises while introducing them to new audiences. Superhero films, already deeply rooted in the multiverse concept, are perfectly poised to capitalize on this trend by returning to...

Now that The Penguin season 1 has come to an end, attention must turn to the future of Colin Farrell's iconic DC villain. So, what do we know about the chances of a second season of the DC spin-off? The Penguin is a DC Elseworlds series that focuses on the eponymous Batman villain's rise to power in Gotham's sprawling underworld. It was an exceptional expansion of Matt Reeves' acclaimed Batman universe, and it's inevitable that there will be a clamor for more.
The Penguin retains the dark themes established in The Batman, delivering a particularly bleak take on one of the most iconic and recognizable characters in Batman's rogues' gallery. Colin Farrell's Oz Cobb is a stark departure from the most recent live-action cinematic adaptation of Oswald Cobblepot in 1992's Batman Returns, portraying him instead as a shrewd and seedy mob boss. While Matt Reeves’ The Batman already made its way to the screens more than two years ago to establish Robert Pattinson as, perhaps, an even darker version of Bruce Wayne than what all the adaptations preceding it did, its sequel Batman 2 is still under the works. If that isn’t enough, it continues to face setbacks with its release as well.
Of course, the anticipation surrounding the same is pretty high as well. For one, not only was the 2022 flick critically acclaimed, with a stunning rating of 85% critical score and 87% general audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it was also a commercial success as it made a whopping $765.9 million from its global box office run on a budget of $200 million (via The Numbers).

While Richard Donner’s Superman paved the way for CBMs, the character hasn’t been done justice on the big screen since the Christopher Reeve-led classic. But things are looking hopeful again, thanks to James Gunn, and the trailer for his Superman has fans convinced that this will be a return to form for one of the most iconic fictional figures of all time.

Much has been said about Robert Pattinson's Batman becoming the Dcu's Dark Knight. That will require a great deal of compromise on the parts of both James Gunn and Matt Reeves, though the former recently confirmed the idea has been discussed inside DC Studios.
In an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Golden Globes red carpet this weekend, The Batman 2 director Matt Reeves was quizzed on Gunn's comments and certainly didn't dismiss the notion of bringing his franchise into the Dcu.
"Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, it really comes down to whether or not it makes sense," the filmmaker started. "What's been great is there was a story that I wanted to tell that we're calling The Epic Crime Saga which is the thrust of what we wanted to do. It's been important to me to be able to play that out. James and Peter have been really,...

Much has been said about The Batman 2's delay, but it's become clear this week that filmmaker Matt Reeves remains committed to bringing his sequel to the big screen.
Talking to Josh Horowitz at the Golden Globes on Sunday evening, Reeves confirmed that, while The Penguin season 2 is in the works, it will ultimately need to work around what's happening with The Batman follow-up.
"Lauren [LeFranc], Dylan [Clark], Colin [Farrell], and I are talking about doing another season. Obviously, we're doing The Batman 2 and have to get the timing right on that," Reeves explained. "Our plan and our hope is absolutely to do another season. We just have to come up with the idea we think is the right idea which is what we're working on."

As of 2025, one of the most expensive filmmakers working in Hollywood right now happens to be James Gunn. The chief of the DC Studios has the responsibility of lifting an entire franchise off the ground and the failure to do so could lead to his exile from the industry for good. However, before Gunn became the bearer of the Dcu, he crafted films like Scooby-Doo, that laid down the grounds for his eventual ascension to a lofty post at Warner Bros.

We recently learned that The Batman 2 (previously titled The Batman Part II) has been delayed by another year. Speculation has since run rampant about why we'll be waiting that extra 364 days, with social media scoopers strongly hinting at issues in filmmaker Matt Reeves' personal life.
While it would be wrong to speculate about what those might be, The Batman director did allude to something along those lines while appearing on the Golden Globes red carpet yesterday evening.
Praising The Penguin star Colin Farrell, Reeves said, "There's [been] a lot of stuff going on in my life in the last year or so and he's been such a good friend. [He's] such a beautiful man."
He added, "I can tell you that we're going to be shooting this year and that we're excited about it. I can't really tell you anything about it except that we're really excited. We're continuing the story.

After Joss Whedon’s Justice League and some other projects that turned out to be lackluster, fans were losing faith in DC. But the franchise was fighting a silent battle all along by bringing some of the most iconic villains to life. This was DC’s quiet revolution, which people are now taking notice of, especially after the third Batman villain, i.e., Colin Farrell’s Penguin’s Golden Globe victory, following in the footsteps of Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.

With the superhero genre being so vast, it's no surprise that some actors have portrayed multiple characters across DC movies. Despite the live-action sphere currently being dominated by the MCU, DC has plenty more to offer in the way of animated movies, thanks in no small part to the DC Animated Universe. This has allowed plenty of actors to lend their voices to certain roles while portraying entirely new characters in DC's live-action movies.
Still, there is no shortage of actors who have portrayed multiple characters in the live-action arena. Thanks to 1989's Batman, DC was the first to churn out live-action blockbusters that would eventually morph into the Dceu, a cinematic franchise comprising 15 movies that have recast several DC movie veterans. With the Dcu poised to reboot DC's cinematic franchise starting with Superman in July, this trend has already started to continue. With that in mind, here are the...

2024 saw DC give one prominent Batman villain a death that was effectively impossible in The Dark Knight trilogy, opening some interesting windows in terms of looking at what different paths could have been taken. Live-action Batman movies have no qualms about killing off their villains, despite the Caped Crusader's own rule against murdering his opponents. From Max Shreck being brutally electrocuted to death in Batman Returns to Bane being shot point-blank by Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises' ending, being a Batman movie villain isn't something that comes with a promising lifespan.
As such, it's been reasonably common for Batman movie villains to die in their first film appearance, with even The Dark Knight trilogy following this convention to some degree - although the Joker and Scarecrow notably survive the events of their debut movies and seemingly the entire trilogy, albeit with both appearing to end the series incarcerated. 2024 provided...

IMDb has a Top 250 list that is constantly evolving. You can rate every movie that is listed on IMDb from one to 10, and the Top 250 is a collection of the highest-rated films across the entire website. This differs from Rotten Tomatoes, which features both critic and audience scores; IMDb's list is purely based on regular audience ratings. The more people that see and enjoy the film, and the higher they rate it, the higher it ranks on the Top 250.
The lowest-rated movie on the list, "Cool Hand Luke," has a rating of 8.0 while the highest-rated movie, "The Shawshank Redemption," has a 9.3. Back in the good old days when IMDb was more of a community and had message boards, the Top 250 was a hotly-debated topic. There was constant arguments about what deserved to be on the list, what didn't, and what should have the coveted number one spot.

Hailey and Justin Bieber might be soaking in their time as a family of three now but before the birth of their son Jack Blues, they wanted to keep the pregnancy private. The model and the singer have been very open about wanting to keep the child out of the limelight and the badgering scrutiny.
They haven’t shown his face to the world, and they don’t plan to reveal too much about him either. Hailey announced her pregnancy through her social media when she was about six months pregnant. She wanted to continue to keep a secret, but she eventually chose to share it with the world. Here’s what the Rhode founder said in an interview earlier this year.

Though Tim Burton has had a long career and his most successful film made a killing at the box office, it hasn't aged nearly as well as a 1999 made-for-tv movie that cost a fraction of Burton's budget. Tim Burton's movies have had wild swings in terms of success, with his heyday undoubtedly coming in the 1980s and early '90s, with classics like Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas (though Burton didn't direct), and Batman Returns. Since then, his career has been more sporadic, with highs like 2003's Big Fish, but also some real lows, like 2012's Dark Shadows, with the box office and critical reviews to match.
Recently, Burton has experienced a little bit of a career resurgence, thanks to trying something new while also returning to an old friend. The sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was a box office success, generating largely positive reviews and racking up $451 million on a budget of $100 million.

Catwoman could become a villain in The Batman - Part II after the latest twist in Matt Reeves' universe. Catwoman is one of DC's most famous antiheroes. While she is known for her impressive burglary and fighting skills, Selina Kyle is often an ally and love interest for Bruce Wayne. She may not have the same high moral standards as Batman, but she doesn't hurt innocent people, and often helps Batman take down many of Gotham's worst villains - walking a fine line between hero and villain that usually doesn't lean too far into either territory.
Previous incarnations of Catwoman - such as Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman from Batman Returns and Anne Hathaway's iteration in The Dark Knight Rises - were Batman's love interests, antagonists, and eventual allies. In The Batman's cast, Zoë Kravitz's Catwoman has a similarly complicated relationship with the Caped Crusader. While they work together to defeat Carmine Falcone,...
