A young man's mother is bitten by a Sumatran rat-monkey. She gets sick and dies, at which time she comes back to life, killing and eating dogs, nurses, friends, and neighbors.
The original version begins with a perfect print of a 1950s National Anthem showing footage of HM The Queen against the New Zealand flag. Ingeniously, this gives no indication of what's to follow. As a further mark of respect towards Her Majesty, during the final gore fest, Lionel turns her portrait to the wall to stop it being splattered with blood.
I'll tell you what she is. She's EXPERIENCED.
Despite being absolutely drenched with blood during the zombie massacre, Lionel's sweater and pants are completely dry in all the following scenes. His pants are amazingly clean, too.
In Braindead there is approximately 16 seconds of extra gore in the lawnmower sequence where we see Lionel hack up numerous zombies, see the demise of the vicar and the nurse (whilst still in the middle of making love) and see Lional kicking body parts towards Paquita to be put into the food mixer.
