H.S. Rawail had made a film titled Sunghursh 1968 with Dilip Kumar. His son Rahul Rawail when started this film, he wanted to title it after his father's film Sunghursh and did the same. The producers of the Dilip Kumar starrer Sunghursh objected, so Rahul changed it to Jeevan Ek Sanghursh. But after 10 years Mahesh Bhatt made a film with Akshay Kumar titled Sangharsh 1999.
Producer D Rama Naidu always makes Hindi films with South writers and South directors but he made this film with Bombay writer and director.

Producer D Rama Naidu felt the film underperformed for a few reasons. The first being the Mandal riots all over India. Second they deviated from the original Telugu version. They made changes to suit the North audience which took the soul out of the film.
