  • This film is less than an hour in length. Yet as I watched the movie for the first time, I was amazed at how involved I became with the two major characters in this film.

The boy (about 11 years old), and man (a criminal), both portray their characters in a believable manner. One of the mystical wonders in the world of film, is that it can somehow lure the viewer into almost "rooting" for the villain - - - which goes against everything that we would normally believe as "right".

In essence, this is a film about a boy's world... a youth who has a void in his life when it comes to adult-male guidance.... and he is willing to reach out anyone. When that adult person is also in need, such a bond becomes inevitable.

A word of warning to those easily offended by nudity... there is a scene in the latter part of this film with frontal nudity of the man and boy after a shower.

For a film that is less than an hour in length, the story is captivating, realistic, and one not soon forgotten.
  • This film 'The Hide-A-Way' is one of those special foreign stories which arrives with little or no fan fare and quickly becomes a cult classic. It is a simple tale of a lonely young boy who is befriended by a juvenile offender on the run. Kasper Andersen stars as Møv and Allan Winther as Funder. Theirs is a universal setting of youths growing up with little or no supervision. Each seeks understanding with the problems of life. The younger boy needs a role model, even if he is a criminal. The older boy needs a place to hide while he recalls how a simple argument with a merchant turn into an accidental, yet tragic assault. Together they fill the little niche of their loneliness with warmth and companionship. Their friendship is spontaneous and provides the foundation for a lasting relationship. Excellent movie and one which has already been accepted as a foreign classic. ****
  • AKA "The Hideaway" (subtitled in English). Very well made motion picture. Great acting and cinematography. Interesting story of a kid helping out a wounded fugitive. You'll be cheering them on by the end of the movie! The Danish have a wonderful style in making motion pictures. Subtitles didn't detract from the movie. Everyone will enjoy it!
