In the living-room, when Linda and her father read a letter from her imperiled aunts and cousin in Berlin, the music on the phonograph is Robert Schumann's "Kinderszenen" (Scenes of Childhood), Opus 15.
When did start smoking?
Linda Voss: I don't know.
Ed Leland: That was a silly thing to do, don't you think?
Linda Voss: I'm a silly girl. Ed. I think you're living proof of that.
In scene 5 on the DVD (USO dance), Linda's voice-over from the BBC broadcast refers to news of "American boys were being lost by the thousands on Pacific islands with names like Corregidor and Bataan". Bataan is a peninsula, and even if Linda hadn't known it at the time of the "death march", she surely would have known it by the time of the narration decades later.
