In an "Animaniacs" tribute by Doug Walker (The Nostalgia Critic), who had done a video listing eleven of the "naughtiest" moments in the show, was curious as to how the writers were able to get so many "naughty" jokes past the censors (such as the famed "fingerprints" joke). The consensus from writers Tom Ruegger, Sheri Stoner, Paul Rugg, and John P. McCann was essentially, "We have no idea."

When the show reran on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons almost all references to Warner Bros. were removed from the opening. Allowing a very unusual transition involving the Nickelodeon logo bursting and the opening cut right to the WB water tower open.
