'Anmol' is a clichéd Bollywood adaptation of the famous fairy tale Cinderella. There are a few Bollywoodized differences, for example the stepmom selling 'Cinderella' to a brothel as her ultimate revenge. Really, this is just another ridiculous Bollywood love story of the early 90s. Rishi Kapoor was still in his chronic fat-popstar syndrome phase as here he plays a fat popstar wannabe who makes a living singing in hotels and libraries (of all places!). Wait, he's not exactly poor poor. He has a super-rich dad (Sayed Jaffrey) who does not approve his career in singing and thus temporarily disowns him. The dialogues a pretty crap and repetitive. Johnny Lever has an item number too. But anyway, enough with the negatives. There are only two things likable about 'Anmol'. One is the music. Although the lyrics may not be the best, the tunes and melodies are beautiful and the songs are hummable. a young luminous Manisha Koirala is pleasant to watch. She does overact in a few scenes but otherwise she's a graceful presence. So, the movies sucks but Manisha and the soundtrack don't.
