Salman Khan is today's Numero Uno of Bollywood giving back to back Superhits and blockbusters but there was a time when he gave back to back flops and a few disasters. Jagruti is one of Salman's not so successful films which released and ran for very little time and as a result flopped. The film follows the same done to death pattern of most Bollywood films dealing with corruption leading to revenge. The theme is so common now that if the film has no twists, then its easy to predict what will happen at parts of the film.
Jagruti tells the story of Jugnu a carefree boy with the looks and without the muscles. Jugnu lives happily with his family until his honest brother is killed by the villains. Jugnu runs away and is missing, other corrupt officials close the case of the honest cop brothers murder. Now, Jugnu has to fight and kill all the villains(typical in Bwood action films) but he can't do so because he is actually not experienced in action and he needs training. Most of the second half of the film is how Salman trains in action from some dude who helps him. Then, the rest of the movie is just plain old revenge even if the action is hard hitting.
Direction by Suresh Krisna is average at the best as he does handle some scenes well. The first initial scenes show many light moments with Khan and his family, Khan and the heroine which is actually well directed. However, Krisna losses momentum when the movie shifts to revenge and action, he could've done a much better job.
Salman Khan does his role with energy and he looks good in one of his earlier movies. To bad that this and other movies like Suryavanshi gave Salman Khan the bad record of having a line of flops. Karishma is the heroine and does what she is asked to do, Pankaj Dheer is the typical honest relative who dies, the rest including the villains are typical and done to death.
On the whole, Jagruti is an average film with some decent moments like the initial scenes. The movie could've been much better and a lot more was expected from a Suresh Krishna movie. But then again, this man should just stick to romantic movies as action movies aren't his cup of tea.
