With the help of a magic ticket, a young movie fan is transported into the fictional world of his favorite action movie character.
Filming involved a seven-day, 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. shutdown of Times Square in New York City. Originally, a seventy-five-foot balloon of Arnold Schwarzenegger held three sticks of dynamite. After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, Richard Brick, Commissioner of the New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre, and Broadcasting, and Gary Martin, President of Production at Columbia Pictures, agreed to change the prop to a badge.
This is one hell of a way to spend Christmas.
After Benedict shoots Jack, he loads two bullets in the gun to shoot him again. Then, when Slater shoots his eye, one shot. But when Danny points at Death, the gun is full.
The only opening credits in this film are the ones for "Jack Slater IV".
The ITV premiere was heavily cut (presumably to fit a two hour schedule); from entire scenes including the burglar at Danny's house and subsequent police station scene to minor cuts to violence such as Arnold kicking a SWAT member in the testicles.
$15,338,241 (USA) (20 June 1993)
