  • I started watching this movie, and it seemed familiar. Sure, it's set in a nightclub like so many HK movies, but it was in some of the other situations that I felt this deja-vu. Then I realized I was watching what was essentially a scene-by-scene remake of David Mamet's "House of Games (1987)", with prostitutes subbing for the psychiatrist. I amazed my friends by calling every twist.

So the first half wasn't too bad. Halfway in the film-makers junk the Mamet script, break out the guns, and slouch to a standard HK action-romance ending. The film loses its spark, since the later double crosses just don't hang together.

So should you see this? It's an interesting cultural artifact, but if you've seen "House of Games", this won't be satisfying, and if you haven't, you should see that first.
