Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994)

FAQ

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

FAQ

Maybe he didn't. He may have noticed it while he was there. Additionally with such a large apartment complex, it would only make sense to sound-proof the balcony doors to help filter out city noises for the residents. Something that Ace would pick up on being a dectective.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is an 1994 comedy from director Tom Shadyac and the film stars Jim Carrey as an eccentric detective whom specializes in missing pets and animals and is hired to investigate the disappearance of a dolphin mascot of the Miami football team.

They got the idea from Super Bowl XXV. In the game, the Buffalo Bills were losing against the New York Giants, 19-20. With 8 seconds left in the game, Bills' kicker Scott Norwood came on the field to attempt a 47-yard field goal, which would have given the Bills the lead and their first Super Bowl win. (It was also their very first appearance in the Super Bowl.) The kick had enough distance but sailed wide right, sealing the victory for the Giants.

After its theatrical release a slightly longer cut of the movie was released on DVD in the US whereas in Europe only the Theatrical Version was put out on VHS and DVD that doesn't feature the prolonged story sequence of Hans the dolphin trainer.

The band is Cannibal Corpse, a popular group from the "death metal" genre of heavy metal. The band is originally from Buffalo NY, but had relocated to Tampa shortly before shooting their scenes in the movie. Jim Carrey himself was a devoted fan of the band and had asked that they appear in the film. In a scene deleted from the theatrical release (but restored for video & television) Ace tries to escape some of Lois Einhorn's goons during a 2nd visit to the club. He tricks the goons into entering the mosh pit, then sings lead vocals with the band to stir the pit into a more furious frenzy & the goons are overpowered.

According to an interview with Rob Barrett, one of the band's 2 guitarists, Carrey was more excited about meeting the band than they were about meeting him.
