Jeff Daniels contemplates life and death in a teaser trailer and first-look images for A Man in Full
“When you die, will people notice,” Charlie Croker (Jeff Daniels) asks in Netflix‘s teaser trailer for the upcoming limited series A Man in Full. The question is as old as time and something people often ask themselves when contemplating a swift exit from this mortal coil. What would prompt a real estate mogul to have such macabre thoughts? His bankruptcy and inevitable downfall, of course.
Here’s the official synopsis for A Man in Full courtesy of Netflix:
When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.
A Man in Full is based on the New York Times best-selling novel by the late Tom Wolfe, who died of an infection in Manhattan in 2018. The six-episode limited series hails from David E. Kelley Productions and Royal Ties Productions Inc.

Bill Murray's unexpected bowling skills stole the show in Kingpin's intense Reno championship scene. Farrelly brothers faced challenges keeping over 1000 extras engaged during filming but Murray's charisma saved the day. Randy Quaid's connection with Bill Murray led to his unexpected appearance in the film, proving it's all about who you know.
Featuring the talents of comedy movie legends like Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray, the Farrelly brothers' Kingpin is an underrated gem in the directing duo's filmography. Released in 1996, the film centers on Roy Munson (Harrelson), a disgraced professional bowling champion who trains newcomer Amish bowler Ismael Boorg (Randy Quaid) for the Reno championship. Along the way, Roy comes up against Ernie "Big Earn" McCracken (Murray), his bowling rival who's responsible for Roy's career nosedive.

Comedy feels like it's in a delicate state these days. Not only are studios avoiding tentpole comedy movies for the most part, but the onslaught of what many perceive as "cancel culture" has resulted in a little more caution when it comes to telling jokes, whether that's on the big screen or in comedy clubs. While there has been a lot of admirable progress with regards to cultural issues in comedy, the argument could be made that there is such a thing as being too sensitive, especially when it comes to an art form that is well-known for mining laughter from irreverence and provocation.
This careful approach to comedy has resulted in a lot of retrospective analysis of comedies from yesteryear, much of which often results in people saying, "You could never make that movie today." This has been applied to everything from "Blazing Saddles" (typically from people who don't...

Peter Farrelly's comedy roots shine in Ricky Stanicky, a silly romp set in Rhode Island. Adding unnecessary drama in a comedy like Ricky Stanicky disrupts the fun, stopping the flow. Most absurd comedy movies should avoid incorporating dramatic elements as they often don't mesh well.
Peter Farrelly knows quite a bit about making successful comedy movies. Now, he has given us Ricky Stanicky, a film that attempts to get back to his roots of weirdly silly comedies set in Rhode Island. The film is definitively niche but is a bit of a return to form for the veteran director.
The problem is that Farrelly falls into a self-made trap by adding drama to an otherwise odd little romp. This is something that comedy directors often feel they need to throw in, but it hardly ever works or needs to be there. So why did Farrelly include a completely throwaway...

Back in the summer of 2021, the box office was still recovering from the pandemic, and even blockbuster movies hadn't returned to the big screen in an impressive way, especially with HBO Max bringing every new Warner Bros. movie to our homes the same day they hit theaters that year (something that infuriated "Dune" director Denis Villeneuve and pushed Christopher Nolan to take "Oppenheimer" to Universal Pictures). Since then, movies have made more of a comeback, even though comedies are still waning these days. But there was a glimmer of hope that things might get back to normal because we also learned that summer that there was somehow a "Kingpin" sequel in development.
Back in 1996, "Kingpin" followed washed-up professional bowler Roy Munson (Woody Harrelson) as he struggled to get by each day following a hustle gone wrong that took away his bowling hand and left him with a hook instead. Barely able to pay rent,...

From the writer-director of Dumb and Dumber, buddy comedy Ricky Stanicky stars Andrew Santino and Jermaine Fowler as 2/3 of a childhood trio, alongside Zac Efron, who have lied their way through life ever since a prank-gone-wrong two decades ago. Together, the three of them devised a fail-proof plan, complete with what Santino and Fowler reveal is an actual bible full of lies, and an imaginary friend, Ricky Stanicky (played by John Cena), to take the heat for their schemes.

However, they're forced to bring their fabricated friend to life when their loved ones get too close to discovering the truth.

Prime Video’s “Ricky Stanicky,” the latest comedy from director Peter Farrelly, is filled with outrageous moments revolving around John Cena as Rod, a down-on-his-luck performer hired by a group of friends to pose as their nonexistent pal. The undeniable highlights, however, are the moments in which we see the Atlantic City lounge act for which Rod dresses as iconic performers, from Peter Frampton and Britney Spears to Billy Idol and Boy George. The musical numbers walk a fine line, presenting Cena with costumes that immediately summon up associations with their sources while remaining just a bit off in order to show that Rod is not exactly one of Atlantic City’s top acts.
Cena credits the costume and hair and makeup departments with creating a wide variety of hilarious looks — and doing it on a ridiculously compressed schedule. “Not only did they transform me to look like Dee Snider,...

John Cena certainly isn't the first wrestler to become a movie star. Hulk Hogan, Jesse Ventura, and Andre the Giant brought their muscles to the big screen decades ago. The late '90s and early 2000s saw Bill Goldberg and Dwayne Johnson enter the fray, with the latter becoming one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, and he's still going strong. But it wouldn't be until the likes of Dave Bautista and John Cena that we'd get a pair of wrestlers who truly stepped into the world of acting without relying mostly on their muscular presence to do the heavy lifting on the big screen for them, both literally and figuratively.
Dave Bautista has proven to be a reliable supporting star in the superhero blockbuster franchise "Guardians of the Galaxy," but he's also delivered more haunting turns in the likes of "Blade Runner 2049," "Dune," and M. Night Shyamalan's "Knock at the Cabin.

Movies like Neighbors have proven his comedic chops. Movies like Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile have proven his wide-ranging charm, mixed with a certain darkness. And, of course, The Iron Claw proved Zac Efron is an awards-caliber performer capable of winning an Oscar who continues to show promise as an A-lister in Hollywood. Unfortunately, Ricky Stanicky doesn't advance his game in any of these acting departments. Just hearing the title "Ricky Stanicky" points toward a rather slapstick fun film with relentless raunchiness along the way.
Don't let the kids near this one, even if the film's title derives from the name of an imaginary childhood friend. Despite the seemingly innocuous title, this is hard R-rated stuff. Unfortunately, the end result is a bit of a mess, despite John Cena's star power and committed and sometimes hilarious turn as the titular antihero.

For years, Ricky Stanicky has been the ultimate scapegoat for whatever mischief best buds Dean, Jt and Wes cooked up. When they nearly burned down a neighbor’s house as kids, Ricky took the blame. That’s what friends are for, right? Except Ricky’s not real. The trio invented him in their teens, and they’ve been pinning things on him ever since. Now, with their significant others starting to get suspicious, the three amigos decide to hire an actor to play their imaginary friend.
Directed by Peter Farrelly, “Ricky Stanicky” is a raunchy, R-rated return to form for the “Dumb and Dumber” co-director: an unapologetically lowbrow buddy movie, featuring the funniest performance yet from up-for-anything wrestler John Cena in the title role. Remember, Peter is the Farrelly brother who went off and made best picture-winning “Green Book,” followed by the (largely unseen) Vietnam drama “The Greatest Beer Run” with Zac Efron.

It's no secret that studios aren't taking chances on comedies at the box office very often anymore. While "No Hard Feelings" succeeded decently enough last year, the biggest laughs came from the indie and arthouse scene in 2023, and streamers are still the primary place to find new comedies. That's exactly the case with Amazon Prime Video's release of "Ricky Stanicky" (watch the trailer here), the return to comedy from "Green Book" director Peter Farrelly, perhaps better known as one half of the Farrelly Brothers directing duo who brought us big laughs in movies like "Dumb & Dumber," "Kingpin," and "There's Something About Mary."
"Ricky Stanicky" follows Zac Efron (who deserved an Oscar nomination for his all-consuming role in "The Iron Claw"), Andrew Santino (FX's "Dave"), and Jermaine Fowler ("The Blackening") as Dean, Jt, and Wes, a trio of longtime best buddies who have been using a fictional friend as...

Peter Farrelly reveals why There's Something About Mary 2 never happened. Unlike the case of Dumb and Dumber, the director felt that the story had ended. Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller's careers were boosted by the film, as they both had iconic roles following the 1998 romantic comedy.
Peter Farrelly reveals why There’s Something About Mary 2 never happened. Farrelly is the writer and director of the 1998 romantic comedy There’s Something About Mary, which follows the story of a man who meets up with his dream girl from high school despite having had a disastrous date with her when they were younger. There’s Something About Mary featured a leading cast including Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon, and Ben Stiller.
Years later, Farrelly explains why a sequel to There’s Something About Mary never happened. Speaking with Comic Book, Farrelly said that the studio “did talk about a sequel” when There’s Something About Mary initially came out.

Netflix comedy movies in March 2024 cover every subgenre in the category. Whether you’re looking to stream slapstick, a rom-com, or something with a side of horror, Netflix’s March additions have something for you.
While any time is a good time to watch a comedy, springtime and laughs can go hand-in-hand. With warmer weather (and summer blockbusters) around the corner, spend your March with Netflix’s best comedy movies.
‘Beverly Hills Ninja’ Coming to Netflix March 1
Celebrate comedy legend Chris Farley by streaming Beverly Hills Ninja on Netflix beginning March 1. The 1997 martial arts comedy marks the final film released during Farley’s lifetime, as the actor died less than a year after its release.
Farley stars as Haru, adopted as a child by a clan of ninjas who believe he’ll become the master promised in legends. As expected, Haru never entirely becomes a ninja despite his best efforts.

The two big original releases on Netflix this month are Spaceman and 3 Body Problem. “Loudermilk” just got a whole lot louder.
In December 2023 on Amazon Prime Video, the Peter Farrelly comedy starring Ron Livingston (who plays the titular Loudermilk), Will Sasso, and Anja Savcic ranked 828th among all streaming shows, according to Reelgood. Now on Netflix, it’s ninth.
Even “Suits” could get jealous of that bump.
Each month, Reelgood measures what it calls 20 million “viewing decisions” on 25,000 shows across more than 200 streaming platforms. Check out the measurement app’s aptly titled “Rise from Obscurity” line graph for “Loudermilk,” as shared with IndieWire:

Before you wave off Reelgood’s methodology, let’s check in with Nielsen, the TV ratings giant.
In its first three weeks on Netflix, “Loudermilk” has made Nielsen’s Top 10 chart for acquired streaming programs each week: eighth twice and 10th once. As an Amazon Prime Video series, “Loudermilk” never charted — and it is safe that say it never came close.

Alrighty then! Jim Carrey has been one rare actor who can take even the simplest line and blurt it out in a way that you’ll remember it forever. He’s also an actor who has made movies with the tiniest budget not only earn millions but stay memorable for years to come.
The year 1994 was one such instance when he delivered back-to-back comedic, historic blockbusters in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective & Dumb and Dumber. Both had three things in common – they were made on a limited budget, did a blockbuster business worldwide & had Jim effortlessly delivering two of the most hilarious performances of all time.

Heeeere’s Johnny! And maybe even M3gan and Michael Myers and the Armitage clan, too. Jason Blum and his Blumhouse productions recently announced that they will be establishing and curating a horror museum inside of the Stanley Hotel, the historic location in Estes Park, Colorado that served as inspiration for Stephen King’s The Shining and has been linked to paranormal activity.
The Horror Film Museum — described as “mini-Academy Museum dedicated to horror” — inside of The Stanley Hotel will open in 2026 as part of the 10,000-foot Stanley Film Center. In a statement, Jason Blum said, “The Stanley Hotel is hallowed ground for horror fans, and that makes this presence at the Stanley Film Center a natural extension for Blumhouse…Fans are going to get closer than ever before to their favorite films…though they may want to keep their distance with a few of the ‘items’ in our collection.

Dumb And Dumber’s Peter Farrelly’s latest film is Ricky Stanicky for Amazon Prime Video. Here’s the trailer and some details…
The Farrelly Brothers will forever be synonymous with slapstick, gross-out comedies like Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary, both of which are, gag for gag, among the funniest films of the 1990s.
Apart from belated sequel Dumb and Dumber To in 2014, the brothers have concentrated on solo projects. In recent years, Peter Farrelly has directed acclaimed 2018 film Green Book, while Bobby directed underrated 2023 comedy Champions.
Peter’s latest film is Ricky Stanicky, a comedy which sounds a bit like Drop Dead Fred or Ted. The synopsis reads as follows:
When three childhood best friends pull a prank gone wrong, they invent the imaginary Ricky Stanicky to get them out of trouble! Twenty years after creating this “friend,” Dean, Jt, and Wes still use the nonexistent...

The Mask is notable for a number of reasons. It was part of a trio of films, alongside Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb & Dumber, that cemented Jim Carrey as both a comedic force and leading man. It's the role that launched Cameron Diaz's career. For a time, it was even one of the biggest comic book films ever made. That last part may send heads spinning, but it's true: The Mask is based on a Dark Horse Comics miniseries. Long before Marvel and DC ruled the silver screen, Dark Horse provided fodder for plenty of comic book adaptations, including Timecop and Tank Girl. Most of these adaptations, like future comic book films, would undergo some major changes from page to screen — and The Mask is the most drastic, as the original comic is a bloody romp full of black humor.

Peter Farrelly made his name in Hollywood by directing raunchy comedies such as "Dumb and Dumber" and "There's Something About Mary" alongside his brother, Bobby Farrelly. Since going solo, however, Peter Farrelly has been making more serious fare such as the Oscar-winning "Green Book." But now, he's back with an R-rated comedy in the form of "Ricky Stanicky." With an A-list cast and a ridiculous premise, it looks like a throwback in every conceivable way. Check out the trailer above for yourself.
Here, Farrelly is re-teaming with Zac Efron, who worked with him on "The Greatest Beer Run Ever." While Efron is coming off of the most serious performance of his career in "The Iron Claw," this sees him going back to his comedic roots, having previously starred in films like "Neighbors" and "Dirty Grandpa." Meanwhile, John Cena is getting to flex his comedic chops as well as the titular character.

It is hard to believe (for people of a certain age), but the year 1994 was 30 years ago! For this week’s poll, we wanted to step back into the time machine and reminisce about what could possibly be considered one of the best years in cinema history. If, like me, you are in your thirties, 1994 holds a nostalgic place due to movies such as Blank Check, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Major League 2, Clifford, The Flintstones, Getting Even With Dad, Little Big League, Angels in the Outfield, The Little Rascals, Camp Nowhere, Richie Rich and Little Giants. The year also represented the huge breakout of comedy legend Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber were all released during that single calendar year.
But it wasn’t just movies aimed at a child’s heart that were released in 1994. The year also saw some genuine...

Clint Eastwood surprisingly related to the infamous toilet scene in Dumb and Dumber, sharing a similar experience with Jeff Daniels. “So You’re Sayin’ There’s a Chance.” Wells Fargo analyst Steven Cahall channeled a famous line from Dumb and Dumber in the title of a Nov. 3 report, in which he analyzed how Hollywood giants and their investors started off the final earnings season of 2023 with the hope that it would provide proof that the sector was finally making progress toward streaming profitability.
“This earnings season feels like a potential shift for direct-to-consumer (Dtc),” Cahall wrote even before sector powerhouses Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney had shared their latest quarterly results. “Dtc trends this earnings season indicate a potential earnings inflection. It’s potentially a fundamental moment that makes media more investable longer-term.” But he argued it was “too early to call it a turning point, too important to call it nothing.”

Hollywood's obsession with unnecessary sequels leads to convoluted and mediocre movies that don't live up to the originals. Attempts to replicate the success of beloved classics or capitalize on profitable properties often result in disappointing films. Recreating or extending a classic movie years later with different actors rarely works, as evident in various failed sequels.
Unfortunately, the film industry is rife with sequels that do not need to be made to movies that bombed or even beloved classics. The second movie is worse than the first, detrimental to what made the first popular, or just weird. This is Hollywood at its worst, desperate to make money off a movie no one wants to see.
Bad sequels add something to a story that wasn't needed and is therefore convoluted, or they try to replicate the success of an idea that was lucky in its success to begin with. Sometimes, ground is...

For a generation of moviegoers, the Farrelly Brothers name means something. Specifically, it means a very pointed combination of gross-out comedy and emotional sentiment — films that are more than happy to dabble in literal excrement and ask you honestly shed a little tear over the characters embarking on some kind of emotional journey. The headlines and the buzz are always about the nastiest gags and grossest moments (she puts what in her hair?), but audiences often who showed up hoping to be appalled often found themselves lulled into something weirdly gentle and sweet. Sometimes, the combination doesn't work at all and the result is an unpleasant, tonal disaster. But when it does work? Well, that's when you get something that feels very specific to Peter and Bobby Farrelly, two of the most memorably mainstream, lowbrow auteurs to emerge from the '90s.

Audiences have seen stunning instances where comedic actors are surprisingly great in serious roles, and the same applies to dramatic actors trying out comedic parts. This transition from drama to comedy is risky, but it is still a treat to see actors known for their award-worthy roles - like Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, and Brad Pitt - let loose and have fun occasionally.
Whether these stars went back to their dramatic roots or continued showcasing their effectual hilarity in later projects, their rare ventures into comedic territory became a delightful watch for the actors' fans. From The Big Lebowski to Knives Out, these movies presented typically dramatic actors in more hilarious situations.

Stanley Kubrick famously adapted Stephen King's 1977 novel, The Shining, which has since become a horror classic. Among the many mysteries surrounding the Overlook Hotel in The Shining is Room 237 (Room 217 in the novel), which is occupied by a terrifying poltergeist. While The Shining offers an explanation for the frightening events inside Room 237, there is a real-life inspiration for the room.

Dumb and Dumber is probably Jim Carrey’s funniest film. While The Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind might be better all-around movies, in terms of his comedies, nothing quite beats Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s debut. While Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask arguably made more of an impact on pop culture, both of those films are dated in ways that this isn’t. Jim Carrey is sensational as Lloyd Christmas, a love-struck limo driver pursuing the object of his affections, Lauren Holly’s Mary Swanson, to Aspen.
As hilarious as he is, he’s matched by Jeff Daniels, who plays his best pal, Harry, who accompanies him on his trip in their iconic Mutt Cutts van. Comedian Jim Carrey’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is seen by many as one of the most memorable movies in the actor’s career. But he wondered if there was a more appropriate time for the film to make its debut.

By most metrics, Eternal Sunshine was seen as a success. Every actor’s performance, from Jim Carrey to Kate Winslet to Kirsten Dunst, received considerable praise in the feature. Critics also fell in love with the movie itself. It currently holds a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 256 critic reviews. Its box-office, however, only enjoyed modest success. According to The Numbers, it made $72 million off a $20 million budget. Although it made its money back, its monetary rewards paled a bit in comparison to its critical praise.

Cult classic sequels like The Mask 3 and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 2 have the potential to capitalize on the superhero film dominance if given another chance. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man 4 could provide redemption for previous iterations and further explore beloved characters like Rhino and Peter Parker. Movies like Spawn 2, Hellboy 3, Constantine 2, and Dredd 2 have the potential to improve upon their predecessors with modern CGI and storytelling techniques, satisfying fans longing for sequels in these franchises. The Incredible Hulk 2 could also provide a much-needed standalone movie for the iconic character.
