[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Twin Peaks” Episode 7, “Part 7.”]
On Sunday’s episode of “Twin Peaks,” Laura Dern returned to give a heartbreakingly brittle performance as Diane, whom it seems is another victim of Evil Cooper’s (Kyle MacLachlan) sadistic ways.
Diane’s initial reluctance and antagonism to even discuss Cooper gave a hint that something was not right between the two of them, but when she finally confronts Evil Cooper in prison, it’s clear that she is filled with outright fear and revulsion.

When he acknowledges that the last time they met was at her house, he says, “I’ll always remember that night,” feigning fondness and civility. Apparently, voicing any sort of affection for that night is not the appropriate answer, and Diane immediately understands that something is wrong, that this is not the Cooper she once knew.

Back in the summer of 2016, Johannes Roberts’ 47 Meters Down readied itself for a guppy-sized VOD release (renamed Into The Deep). Then, without warning, his bottom-feeding nightmare was yanked from distribution. Why? Because Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios purchased the rights and organized a 2017 theatrical campaign through Freestyle Releasing.
Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Shallows proved that damsels-in-aquatic-distress could turn a profit, so why not gamble on 47 Meters Down? Two girls, one cage. Underwater anxiety flashes some pretty ferocious chompers when Roberts’ beasts are in peak aggression mode, benefiting from cinema screens versus home streaming. Kudos on the power-play, Mr. Allen. Maybe some more studios can start replicating your courage?
Mandy Moore and Claire Holt star as vacationing sisters, Lisa and Kate. The two American gals search for relaxation in Mexico, until Lisa confesses her boyfriend split before the getaway. This flips Kate’s party switch from “Maybe” to “Hell Yeah,” and before long,...

A team of Google researchers presented a paper in Boston, Massachusetts on September 18, 2016 titled Deep Neural Networks for YouTube Recommendations at the 10th annual Association for Computing Machinery conference on Recommender Systems (or, as the cool kids would call it, the Acm's RecSys ‘16).
This paper was written by Paul Covington (currently a Senior Software Engineer at Google), Jay Adams (currently a Software Engineer at Google), and Embre Sargin (currently a Senior Software Engineer at Google) to show other engineers how YouTube uses Deep Neural Networks for Machine Learning. It gets into some pretty technical, high-level stuff, but what this paper ultimately illustrates is how the entire YouTube recommendation algorithm works(!!!). It gives a careful and prudent reader insight into how YouTube's Browse, Suggested Videos, and Recommended Videos features actually function.

For seven years running, there's been a Halloween counterpart, the Blood List, run by Kailey Marsh. Into the deep! As proven by eight years on Mad Men and countless red carpets, January Jones can rock the heck out of both retro and modern styles—and, as a photo shoot with Violet Grey revealed, she can even do topless mermaid-chic! Daring to bare, Jones, 37, ditched both her top and bra for one sexy image. Her assets were well-concealed, courtesy of "Under the Sea"-worthy extensions, which were draped over her breasts. The other photos in the spread were decidedly more fashion-focused. In one close-up pic, the X-Men: [...]...

With everything else getting a feature film adaptation these days, it only makes sense that the classic Sock Monkey would join in on the action! Animator Matt Danner and writer Tony Millionaire have teamed up to to bring Sock Monkey to the big screen. Millionaire is the talented guy behind the current Sock Monkey stories.
The film will be based on an upcoming storybook they made called Sock Monkey: Into The Deep Woods, which follows a stuffed hero named Uncle Gabby "as he and his doll pals venture across sea, land, and air to save their human, Ann-Louise, whom they fear has been kidnapped by a vicious monster." To show off the cinematic potential of the character, Danner wrote a script for the feature and also produced a “sneak peek” teaser clip that you can watch below. They used a hybrid of CG and live-action “digi-nette puppetry” to bring the magical story to life.

Pretty Little Liars' mystery is as tangled as ever. Here's Caroline's review of The Mirror Has Three Faces...
This review contains spoilers.
4.10 The Mirror Has Three Faces
We’re only two weeks away from the summer finale of Pretty Little Liars, and the start of ‘World War A’, and the show sure is going out of its way to implicate Cece. To me, this means that Red Coat is absolutely, categorically not Cece, and it’s just another red herring to keep us guessing. The evidence, however, is pretty compelling, with the revelation this week that Alison and Cece were even closer than we thought. Dressing up as each other and “swapping” personalities? That certainly sounds like A behaviour.
Emily inadvertently, and somewhat unwillingly, does the most fact-finding this week as Mrs Dilaurentis invites her to stay in Alison’s old room while her house is being rebuilt.

On "Into the Deep," Hanna got a bit of a break when Ashley made bail.
Below, our Pretty Little Liars Round Table panelists discuss whether Ted is the good guy we hope he is; whether Mona checked herself into Radley; and why Jenna is afraid of CeCe and more. Is Ted too good to be true?
Teresa: I was sure it was going to be Ted after Hanna confided in him. But then I was thinking, how could he afford it? Maybe he's got some help from the A-team or Red Coat. Remember, we're not supposed to trust anyone.
Leigh: I think Ted might be one of the few genuinely good dudes in Rosewood. I think the Marin women deserve nice guys. But did Mona pay maybe?...

Pretty Little Liars delivers yet more water-treading in this week's episode. Here's Caroline's review of Into The Deep...
This review contains spoilers
4.9 Into The Deep
Despite this week’s Pretty Little Liars featuring a Red Coat-sighting, a near-death and Mona going back into Radley, it still feels as if too much time is being spent on the personal lives of the girls, with only Spencer really trying to solve any of the mysteries that have been plaguing them. To be fair, Hanna has a lot on her plate with her mother’s arrest, but what are Emily and Aria’s excuses?
Starting with the former, Emily has a contender for Worst Birthday Ever when Paige tries to arrange the perfect day for her girlfriend. Sending her for a meeting with an Olympic-level swim coach in the day and putting together a surprise party at night,...

"Into the Deep" continued this season's trend of offering the audience very little until the very end.
But, unlike last week's dull entry, this Pretty Little Liars installment managed to be mildly entertaining.
That was mostly because there was some realistic drama going on between Paige and Emily, as well as some sweet moments between Ashley and Ted. Unfortunately, this episode seemed to mark the beginning of the end for this loving pair.
Emily's future has been in question ever since her accident in "Turn of the Shoe," and it doesn't look like it's getting any clearer. Paige's attempt to help Emily was really sweet, but it definitely exposed her insecurities about their future. It was heartbreaking to watch the two realize that without Stanford, Emily and Paige will drift apart next year.
But does that mean they are breaking up soon?
Ashley and Pastor Ted had great reunion this week.

But first, Veronica tells Spencer and Hanna that Mona gave a full confession, but that some of her account of what happened contradicts some of the evidence and if the Liars are involved, it will only hurt Ashley's case.
Below, Ashley wonders why in the world Mona would confess to Wilden's murder. Butw ho cares, because Mona's confession got the judge to set bail because it created enough doubt in Ashley's case. Bail is set at $1 million and since the lasagna box is probably empty, that may be a problem for the Marins.
Finally, Jenna and Shana are talking about Alison and whether or not Jenna should have told the cops about her. But it sounds as though Shana says Alison is alive and they don't know where she is?...

What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Jim: I really liked the touching moment of Rumple and Belle having burgers, along with with Henry and Regina talking about her only using magic to help others. This showed that these two villains are not all bad.

Once Upon a Time, Season 2, Episode 8: “Into the Deep”
Written by Kalinda Vazquez & Daniel T. Thomsen
Directed by Ron Underwood
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
If there is one thing you don’t want to do it is make Cora angry. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what Captain Hook did, which in turn caused Cora to bring forth her army of undead. Can we just take a time out to say, Creepy! And with that Cora issues her army to go find Snow, Emma, Aurora, and Mulan.
After a quick glimpse of Cora being delightfully evil, we are taken to the four girls (Snow, Emma, Aurora, and Mulan) where it is confirmed by Aurora that she was actually speaking to Henry in the netherworld. Up until recently Aurora has simply just been there, going along with the other three on the journey. It’s a nice change to...

Hold on tightly, Once Upon a Time fans: as teased by Jennifer Morrison, this Sunday's winter finale promises to conclude with an intense cliffhanger.
It's not difficult to imagine how, following the events on last night's "Into the Deep," which focuses on Henry and Aurora's shared dreams, along with Cora's dastardly, desperate actions.
Look for this villain to team up with Hook on "Queen of Hearts," while Regina and Mr. Gold also join forces to prevent her from finding Storybrooke. But will their magical scheme place Emma and Mary Margaret in danger?

Previously on Once Upon A Time, Cora went on a heart-ripping spree, Henry got tired of being totally useless to the plot this season and started infiltrating Aurora's nightmares, and Captain Eyeliner led Emma to the magical compass before she ditched his sorry arse.
We start out in the Enchanted Forest, where Cora meets up with Hook at the base of the beanstalk and asks for the compass. He hangs his tail between his legs and admits that the pretty blonde Miss Swan outsmarted him. I'm still not entirely sure if he's evil or just really desperate to get to Storybrooke to exact revenge, but either way Cora is quite through with him. Instead, she goes back to her (still creepy) vault of hearts and raises an army of zombies (?!).

Most shows wait until the finale to incorporate a major plot twist, but for Once Upon A Time, throwing the audience for a stomach-churning loop is just business as usual.
When last we left the Enchanted Forest, Aurora (Sorah Bolger) had finally shown some worth via her connection to Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) in the fiery dream world, even as Charming (Josh Dallas) watched the Mad Hatter’s hat portal burn to a crisp. Tonight, Aurora again plays a crucial role, though by the end of the episode, she takes a turn for the worse.
In a nutshell, “Into the Deep” is the Battle of the Villain All-Stars between the four of the major baddies on the show: Regina (Lana Parrilla), Rumple (Robert Carlyle), Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and Cora. As “the enemy of the enemy is my ally,” Regina and Rumple go up ...

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 2, Episode 8 of ABC's "Once Upon a Time," titled "Into the Deep."
After the decidedly filler-y "Child of the Moon," it was good to see "Once Upon a Time" getting back to the meat of the mythology with the action-packed "Into the Deep."
Although some of the exposition felt belabored -- especially the narrative hoops that the writers seemingly needed to jump through to justify Snow being able to get back to the Netherworld -- overall, the hour was gripping and the reunion between Snow and Charming felt perfectly played.
The recurring themes of faith, sacrifice and familial trust were especially poignant given the risks everyone was willing to take in order to save each other; from Regina and Charming finding common ground in their quest to keep Henry safe, to Emma assuming the more maternal role and reassuring Snow...

Cunning vilains and blazing romance took over this week's Once Upon a Time, as "Into the Deep" dropped us into the netherworld where true love was exactly where we hoped it would be... but not what we expected.
We'll start with the villains.
Cora and Hook. Loyalty was a fluid thing with these two. Perhaps loyalty's too strong a term. Maybe it's that they're both working towards a common goal and willing to use one another to get it and trample over everyone else in the process.
That Cora kicked Hook to the curb certainly wasn't a surprise. She'll only keep him around as long as he's useful. But now that she has Aurora's heart, is there really a use for Hook? Either way, it certainly looked as though he'd bought himself some time.
And what's up with all of those hearts? They seemed to be everywhere. Talk about creepy.

Once Upon a Time Spoiler Alert: Dr. Whale isn’t an only child.
Okay, so Dr. Whale in Storybooke is actually Dr. Victor Frankenstein in…well, what do you call a strange black-and-white world, that is not the fairy tale world we’re accustomed to visiting? That’s where Dr. Frankenstein hails from. He’s played by Alias and Heroes alum, David Anders.
But TV Line has scooped the story that the not so good doctor’s brother has just been cast. I’m not sure that’s much of a spoiler, considering, in his back story, we learned he tried to bring his dead brother back to life.
So, if you connect the dots, actor Chad Michael Collins is probably about to bring Frankenstein’s monster to the small screen.
The handsome actor was last seen on ABC’s Last Resort, as show I’ve been really digging, as Redman,...

Once Upon a Time took us inside the life of Ruby this week, but it was the conclusion to "Child of the Moon" that likely left most viewers talking.
Henry and Aurora can see each other in their dreams? What could that possibly mean?!?

Welcome to another Misery Night! The most apt moniker for Monday nights that I have heard in my life. Let's face it, there's very little to recommend Mondays; you know you've got the whole rest of the week to go, you're probably groggy all day because you knocked your sleep cycle around a bit over the weekend, and that coworker/classmate you're not fond of now has a story to share with you about their weekend. With that totally cheerful thought, here's what's on TV tonight:
8:00pm: "10 Things I Hate About You" on ABC Family
"Chuck" on NBC
"Dancing with the Stars" on ABC
"House" on Fox
"How I Met Your Mother" on CBS. I know it's been said, but seriously? If my dad started out his story of how he met my mom with "You see, several years before we actually Met, all of these completely unrelated things happened!

PBS' "American Experience" presents a new documentary by famed filmmaker Ric Burns. It is titled Into the Deep: America, Whaling & the World and it gives an extensive view of the American whaling industry. It begins with the pilgrims coming to this country in 1620 and soon after beginning to butcher the whales that washed up on the coast of New England. When they saw how much use they could make of the whale's oil and other portions of its body they began to explore the ocean off the coast and slaughtered the whales at sea. This whaling process was so successful the industry spread around the world and long, arduous voyages followed. One of these "journeys" is followed closely by Burns. It is the voyage of the good ship Essex and it is a tale of tragedy. The story of...

To fully explore the undersea world of exotic locales like New Guinea, Indonesia, and the Great Barrier Reef, you could put on scuba gear and hop into the water. Or for the next closest thing, there’s “IMAX Under the Sea”, which besides keeping you dry, also comes with voiceover work by funnyman Jim Carrey, here dispensing with the yuk-yuks as our narrator and guide. Written and directed by IMAX veteran Howard Hall, the IMAX 3D shot “Under the Sea” is now available (as of 3/10) from IMAX and Warner Home Videos on DVD and Blu-ray. Imagine a world of incredible color and beauty. Of crabs wearing jellyfish for hats. Of fish disguised as frogs, stones and shag carpets. Of a kaleidoscope of underwater life. Now, go explore it! The makers of Deep Sea and Into the Deep take you into tropical waters alive with adventure: the Great Barrier Reef and other South Pacific realms.

It's possible that one of the reasons Watership Down became such an enduring classic is that it's a fantasy that plays directly to the mainstream: It centers on the lives of talking rabbits, but it avoids any other notably fantastical elements, and author Richard Adams went to great pains to tie his characters into the natural world. They talk like people, but think and act like the animals they are. It's a book that could—granted the existence of sapient rabbits—take place in the real world, and it's written as though it does. Similar books dealing with animal societies—Tad Williams' Tailchaser's Song, say, or the Redwall books, or Ken Grimwood's Into The Deep—generally create their own, less compellingly close worlds. And in the process, they tend to forget that non-human characters are generally interesting for their non-human perspectives, and not necessarily for the big, familiar fantasy tropes that those characters share.

TORONTO -- Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet will narrate and Danny Elfman will score the new giant-screen 3-D documentary Deep Sea 3D, Imax and Warner Bros. Pictures said Wednesday. Toronto-based Imax said Depp and Winslet will co-narrate the 3-D film, set amid underwater creatures that inhabit the oceans' depths. Deep Sea 3D represents the first original Imax film to be scored by Elfman, who recently provided the music for Warner Bros.' Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which appeared on Imax screens in a digitally remastered 3D version. The documentary, set for a March 3 release exclusively on Imax screens, was shot by Howard Hall, the director of Imax's first underwater 3-D film, 1991's Into the Deep.
