The Blakes have a rancher in the burbs, 2 kids, a mid-sized American car, a gas barbecue and lawn furniture. Dad works in an office, Mom does something vague and equally meaningless. They are exactly like all the people you see on the freeway every morning. Something happens - their young son gets sick.
Dad decides it's all their fault. They've given up on life - it's life's way of getting back at them. He decides they should move to the country, have some fun, get real. A wonderful friendship develops between him & his son, Max. But Dad ultimately pushes too hard, too far - he risks losing everything. Not a smarmy, Disnified movie.
