  • Evil might never sleep, but there's a bloody good chance of the viewer nodding off while watching this dreadful psychological thriller starring a pre-fame Heather Graham and featuring a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance by Carrie-Anne Moss (who is given top billing on the UK DVD cover!).

According to director James Merendino, "the movie is about passive aggressive misogyny destroying femininity in this country". In other words it's a pretentious pile of indie semi-art-house twaddle from a director with ideas way above his station. The dialogue is stilted, the performances awkward, and the narrative disjointed. Merendino commands dreadful performances from all involved and makes every scene as mundane as possible, directing in a style that can only be generously described as perplexing.
  • When I saw this, I felt like looking a little independent movie with potential for a little cult movie... Heather Graham gives a grippy performance... yes, the camera angles and cuts are really kinda culty, the costumes are very stylish (both a bit 60ies-like) and the story is , not although, but because it is confusing, quite exciting and suspense, with several surprising and unexpected turns...yeah, but the storyline doesn't count that much, it's how it is put in action... As far as the style is concerned, it reminds me a bit of a mix of "Carnival Of Souls" and "Blow Up"...

Honestly, this is a very funny movie if you are looking for bad acting (Heather Graham could never live this down... it has three titles for a reason- to protect the guilty!), beautifully bad dialog ("Do you like... ribs?"), and a plot only a mother could approve, this is your Friday night entertainment!

My roommate rented this under the title "Terrified" because he liked Heather Graham, but terrified is what we felt after the final credits. Not because the movie is scary, but because somebody actually paid money to make this turd on a movie reel.

Horrible movie. There are a few no-name actors that provide some unintentional comedy, but nothing worth viewing. Heather Graham's dramatic climax also was one of the most pathetic and disturbing things I have ever witnessed. I award this movie no point, and may God have mercy on its soul.
  • I got hold of this film on DVD with the title Evil Never Sleeps, it gives front cover billing to Carrie Ann Moss, but she plays such a minor character that I didn't really notice her in the film.

I'm afraid that I consider this one of the worst purchases I have ever made. The dialogue was stilted and the delivery wooden, I found the acting to be disconnected from the plot. Graham's performance to me was of someone who's wondering whether she's left the gas on at home.

All in all both my wife and I found this film painful to watch, and it is not a valuable addition to my collection, watch it at your peril, but spending 90 minutes having your fingernails pulled out would probably be a better way to spend your time.
  • I was looking through TV Guide last night and saw a movie starring Heather Grahm on, who I liked in movies like Boogie Nights, and Austin Powers, so I decided to watch it. It started out ok, but you could tell the story was lacking, and at about half way through, it started to deteriorate. I do not remember this movie being in the theaters, and I'm sure if it was, it wasn't there long. The acting was stale and unconvincing, the dialogue was silly and predictable, and the story was confusing and stupid. Definately one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and I like movies like the ones this has been compared to like Fight Club, but this one doesn't come close!! Heather Grahm has done much better things since. I gave it a 2 out of 10 but thats because I clicked on the wrong number, I meant to give it a 1.
  • TERRIFIED stars BOOGIE NIGHTS's Heather Graham as a young woman who become "terrified" that someone is stalking her. It starts off pretty good, and fairly scary, but the last half is confusing and dumb. Graham isn't great, but there are signs that she will become a big Hollywood player, which she has.

Could be better; Could be worse. TwO aND a HaLF STaRs OuT oF FoUR
  • If you see this movie on a shelf, leave it there. Its quite simply awful Bad story, bad acting, bad filming. Just watched it for the first time (and the last) and it was a waste of 90mins. Watching it i presumed it was grahams early work the acting was so bad and was shocked to find out it wasn't. Why did she do it!!

Leave the film, just run away and never look back, you aint missing anything.

Heather Graham turns in one of her strongest performances in an otherwise straight-to-video thriller. Olive (Heather Graham) is a secretary who picks up guys in bars for trysts in dark parking lots. She is a lonely and troubled widow, having witnessed her husband kill her lover before turning the gun on himself. By herself in a large L. A. apartment, Olive walks in on a mysterious man (Paul Herman), who punches her and flees. Police detective Joe (Rustam Branaman) takes a romantic liking to Olive, as does her best friend Pearl (Lisa Zane). Olive is still terrorized by the mysterious man, who stalks her on the streets, and puts her in the hospital. Olive begins to withdraw into paranoia as the attacks increase, and the police's help decreases.

Graham is the best thing going here. While she goes through the motions of a woman stalked, she is in almost every scene and builds tension convincingly. Her excusing attitude of her lovers is restrained and believable. Her best scene involves a conversation with her dead husband's brother, who she suspects of being involved in the attacks. The film is overloaded with peripheral characters who distract from the central, and obvious, plotline. The screenplay is sloppy about dropping clues to the ending, but Graham's energy keeps the viewer hooked. Most of the film takes place in Olive's apartment, making me wonder if this began life as a stage play. Merendino's direction is fine, the technical aspects are unremarkable, and the supporting cast is full of familiar faces. Don't put too much stock in the old DVD cover, photoshop programs seemed to be popular in those days. "Terrified" did not have me terrified, or even slightly concerned. It did have me remembering better suspense films, and admiring Graham.
  • It was a misguided film. What should have been about a woman who was suffering from the suicide of her husband became an unexplained flick about a psychopathic / atypical crazy girl.

When looking into the actual premise it's just a sad story about a woman who has early onset dementia and hysteria induced from the sudden death of her husband.

She becomes mislead by her own sense of reason and drifts from reality. I couldn't say that there was anything appealing about this movie if not for the intent of watching Heather Graham in a once in a life time performance.

Plus, me from 10yrs ago is now cackling like a child and saying that she makes out with Carrie-Anne Moss for a whole scene.
  • I happened to catch this over the weekend, and was bewildered the entire time. This is an odd movie, rather slow-paced, and through most of it you're scratching your head, going "Huh?" However, Heather Graham does give her character, Olive, depth and believability.
