When Will calls Laura to apologize and explain his running off the previous morning, he complains that he can hear her toweling her hair. This is supposed to illustrate his heightened perceptions. The trouble is, that telephones of the kind used in the film, purposely limit the audio frequencies they pass back and forth, to a narrow range in the human vocal spectrum, in order to reduce interference. Even with superhuman hearing, Will would not be able to hear sounds that were blocked from transmission.
