  • The Super Mario Bros. Super Show was nothing super.

The Legend Of Zelda was no where near as good as the games.

Sonic the Hedgehog got canceled as fast as Sonic could run.

Viewtiful Joe lost the viewtifulness of the game.

Earthworm Jim... now where getting somewhere.

This show was witty, and downright hilarious. The series was based after the popular video game, and its sequel, Earthworm Jim 2 (creative, eh?). The series follows Jim (Dan Castanella, the same voice as 'Homer Simpson' from the 'Simpsons'), his pall Peter Puppy (who transformed when enraged into a hideous beast), Jim's precious princess girlfriend, and his adorable pet slime (yes, I think he's adorable. shut up). The writing and excellent voices spawned the Best Video Game Cartoon series. Ever! If you have a chance, give Jim a chance. Then play the game if you have a Sega Genisis or Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Despite it having a worthless mutt I must say that this show was an iCON. A very fun engaging show about our friendly neighbourhood worm and his dumb dog.

EWJ also had an awesome theme song. It's one of the best.

    Good show.

Yes, I know that the creator Doug TenNapel is a dishonest person but this show is amazing (despite the now uncovered pitch animation by TenNapel and Will Meugniot giving us a whole different concept of the show such as Jim not talking).

The main negative (a plus for me) of the show during Jim's zenith was the smart writing. The first 13 episodes (S1) are solid to say at least with a couple of intermission plots and risque jokes (prison rape). The second season (10 episodes) however, really brought the show to the spotlight by removing the intermission plots and making it more chronological (i.e. Events before the opening credits carry on into the episode). Hell, one of the episodes makes fun of the show's low ratings. The voice cast for this is superb, which adds to the wackyness of Jim's world.

Based on that strength, the show should have received at least a third season before WB pulling the plug (eventhough TenNapel stated in an interview with GameFan that he was done with Jim after leaving Shiny Entertainment). For my two cents, watch this show backwards and judge it for yourself.

Where did this show go? It was funny, silly, entertaining, colorful and a wild ride in every episode! Why was it ever cancelled? The silliness almost reached Monty Python levels. It had one of the greatest running gags of all time. At the end of every episode, one of the characters would get flattened by a cow.I hope it turns up again sometime.
  • One of my favorite cartoons of all time, along with Rocko's Modern Life and Beavis and Butt-Head. I was ecstatic to find all four VHS tapes at a discount dollar store. I hadn't seen this terrific cartoon in nearly a decade. It was a laugh a minute! Uproaroiusly funny! The jokes were ingenious! The characters were awesome! Especially Jim himself, he was immensely lovable! After watching the tapes I once again displayed my beloved EJ action figures and EJ poster. I could just go on for a long time about how much I love this cartoon! If only they could put the complete series on DVD. That would mean a lot to me and many other EWJ fans.

BOTTOM LINE: It's, as our humble hero would say... GUH-ROOVY!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I am a huge animation fan, and consider some animated films and shows some of my favourites ever. Earthworm Jim, the underrated gem it is, is no exception. Even as a child, I admired how bizarre it was but also how brilliantly written and animated it was. Revisiting it after goodness knows how long, I still do. The animation is truly excellent, with bold colours, audacious backgrounds and sharp and unique character designs. The music is a delight too, the main theme is well and truly memorable and the incidental music is cleverly and imaginatively composed.

The story lines are outstanding. They were well paced, being very brisk and original, a refreshing retread from being predictable and contrived. I also love the characters. Jim is a moron at times, but he is also very charming, likable and witty, while Peter Puppy is adorable, Jim's girlfriend doesn't fall into the trap of being clichéd and the villains are outrageously fun in their motives, how they're voiced and animated and even in their names.

What made Earthworm Jim in my opinion was in its writing. This is one brilliantly written show, not only in the dialogue which is superb and enthusiastically delivered but in the surreal gags and post modern humour and inspired spoofs. The voice acting consistently is top notch, especially Dan Castallenetta who is perfect as Jim. To conclude, Earthworm Jim is a gem, and deserves to be better known than it is. 10/10 Bethany Cox
  • I loved this show as a teenager. The surreal gags and post modern humour were something of a breath of fresh air at a time when much of children's animation had lost its charm and imagination. The voice actors all do a very good job, Jim is voiced by none other than Homer Simpson himself! It would be great to see this get a release on DVD with some nice extras. Some concept art would be great to see, I love Doug Tenaple's creations. Some of my favourite memories of the show...Psycrow getting high on coffee, Jim having his photo taken with the Giant Fur Bearin' Trout, The Hamstinator and the guy that can turn his eyelids inside out.
  • Earthworm Jim is a series steamed from a popular early 90s video game which managed to score a 100% satisfactory grade from a game magazine.

The storyline, which is incorporated in the theme song, is about an ordinary earthworm, who is lucky enough to have a super suit, meant for an evil doer on another planet fall on him, giving him super powers. He teams up with a cursed puppy, a living blob of snot and a beautiful space princess he has fallen in love with, together they fight evil villains throughout space and protect the planet Earth.

Many parody central series (not mentioning many names) fail in epic proportions down to their key element, the lack of story line, yet where many fail, 'Earthworm Jim' triumphs.

The reason I feel 'Earthworm Jim' manages to gain attention among other 'random' series' is the fact that we get to know all characters, their connections to each other, their circumstances and intentions in brief yet detailed scenes. With wacky scenarios and reoccurring villains, viewers know what to expect without feeling disappointed by predictability.
  • I used to watch this 1990s American cartoon when I was a kid. I thought I found it very entertaining and funny but it can be bizarre sometimes. It was shown on TCC (The Children's Channel) in the 1990s but sadly TCC doesn't exist anymore. It closed down in spring 1998 and it was replaced by ViacomCBS (now known as Paramount Global) - owned Nickelodeon UK and Ireland although Nickelodeon was actually first launched in the UK and my home country Ireland in 1993. It was also shown on Sky 1 (now Sky Showcase), Channel 4 and RTÉ 2 years ago.

I know it is based on a popular video game series by Shiny Entertainment, Incorporated but Interplay now owns the rights of the franchise.

The acting is pretty good especially from Dan Castellanta, Jim Cummings, Charlie Adler and Jeff Bennett themselves.

It's probably one of the best video game cartoons of all.

I always love that 1990s cartoon.

The only time I ever got to see it, in all honesty, was on video, of which I only ever saw four 2 episode tapes out of about 25 or so episodes. There's a show that needs to be brought back. It was incredibly silly, but everyone needs silliness. But it was the Pythonesque quality of the comedy that I loved so much. What other show could host a megalomaniacal fish, a Princess named Whats-her-name, and a falling cow, and still be coherent? It's not just the jokes and gags, it's the delivery of them all. Not a dud in any of the episodes I've seen.
  • Put simply, "Earthworm Jim" was one of the funniest and most entertaining television programs on the air during the time of its run, and remains one of the most creatively humorous cartoons of all time.

The series takes several of the characters and scenarios from the video game it's based on and brings them to stunning life, including Princess What's-Her-Name, Peter Puppy (who'd always honor anything at all that impressed him with the "Better than..." comment), and a motley cast of rogues who helped keep things funny.

It's truly one of the most notable animated shows in history (and had a great theme song too), so here's hoping it's preserved on DVD.

This show is of course based on the video games of the same name. I only have one question abut this show. Why did the cancel this show? It was hilarious and clever. The show had a great assortment of characters too. Every time I watched this show, I fell over laughing with aching sides. I hope this show comes back to the air waves someday.
  • Video game character Earthworm Jim gets his own cartoon series, and the only word to describe it is: FUNNY! There's Jim, who is a total moron, fighting those weird villains from the games, which truly are bizarre(c'mon, who could forget the likes of Prof. Monkey-for-a-head, or Queen Slug-For-A-Butt?). The guy who played Homer(I forget his name, Dan Castellentia or something like that) is brilliant as Jim, who is possibly even wackier than the Tick! No, he IS wackier than the Tick! The laughs and spoofs were great, but then stupid WB took this excellent show off, and it hasn't been on the air since(hey, Cartoon Network: are you paying attention here?). I would love it if this truly hilarious show came back. C'mon, I want to see that cow fall on someone again!

BOTTOM LINE: If you can find the old videos, GET THEM! This is one of the funniest cartoon shows ever.
  • My husband and I were just discussing how we wished that Earth Worm Jim was back on TV or could get the episodes on DVD. It would be a good addition to our animation collection. (We are cartoon fanatics) We have a 20 yr old son and he and his friends feel the same way. They enjoyed the video games also. There are too many cartoons that we can't even pronounce the names to.

If those shows can be put on DVD as soon as they hit the screen; let's give Jim the same respect! My son has the action figures from the TV series.

I especially liked his dog that had the split personality. Unforntunatley we haven't seen the movie, so that would be a yes on having it on DVD.
  • Warning: Spoilers
    SPOILERS

I still want to see more of Earthworm Jim! This series is one of the funniest of all time! I think the rogues gallery is so weird it beats out both Spider-man and Batman! I would have loved it if the rest of the series villains had showed up(like Major Muckus), but the bad guys were still great! It was so funny whenever Evil the Cat used some plan to destroy the universe, and it would involve a pop-up book or a snowglobe. And it was hilarious when Prof. Monkey-For-A-Head and his monkey head would always argue. Plus, Psycrow was one of the best villains ever! And who could forget Jim!? He's hilarious! And of course, there's his evil self, who hates cuteness and stuff like that! And on one episode, he accidentially turned Peter and Jim into babies, and they were so cute that he ran off in fear! This was one of the funniest cartoons ever! It needs to come back! Am I asking too much?!

BOTTOM LINE: Want more Earthworm Jim!
  • There were many american cartoon shows based on videogames - pacman, super mario brothers , double dragon and The legend of zelda to name a few. But out of all them earthworm jim was the most effective. Not only did it translate the games wackiness to cartoon form well , but it was hilarious and massively entertaning in its own right.

Earthworm jim made a dumb but loveable hero , his rouge gallery was funny (both funny "ha ha" and funny "weird" )as hell and princess wots-her-name was just plain sexy , man (thats right i said it!).

And to top it all off , every episode ended with a cow falling on someone.Groovy !.
  • Earthworm Jim this is one of the funniest and stupidest heroes ever created. Along with Peter the sidekick who get mad will tear you to pieces. This is a great show. And the other day I was lucky enough to get EWJ tape 2. I recommend you buy any tape of it you can. Then give it to me. Just joking but if you find it you buy it and won't be disappointed. Now a quote from Peter..."I must not fear. Fear is the little death. Fear is the mind killer that brings total obliteration."
  • Ah, Video game cartoons... they were classics, like the super Mario cartoons, the adventures of Sonic the hedgehog, and so on. Not all of them were winners though, like Captain N, The Donkey king cartoon, and this. At first, I was really interested when this was on, but once I heard the theme song I knew it was gonna be a trainwreck. The voice acting in general in awful (Jim was voiced by someone from the Simpsons, he could at least try!)

First of all, the grasp of the source material is off, as the games has Earthworm Jim in space and not living in a set location. But In the show, he lives in a regular old house! Wouldn't a talking, human sized earthworm raise his neighbors eyebrows? The second game gets no recognition throughout this show, except snot. Most of the villains are nowhere to be seen. Where's Doc duodenum, Chuck, Billy Bin, Major Mucus, Rusty, Flaming yawn, or Bruty!?

Do you what villains they do have? Some fat crow(which looks more like a fuzzy wrench) in a space suit, a skeleton termite hybrid, a fish, a buff cat, a buff mouse, a not buff cat, and a monkey conjoined with an angry dude.

The heroes are incredibly out of character, Jim is now a dumb guy who just lets everyone step all over him. You have a blaster, you worm! Shoot the bad guys instead of falling into their traps! And when he does shoot someone, it's always some helpless person and almost NEVER someone being evil! Peter is not this cute dog with a short temper, but a generic sidekick with no personality. And finally, what's-her-name somehow has LESS personality than she does in the games!

So yeah, The earthworm Jim show is a disgrace to the worm's legacy, And if I were you, I'd avoid this like a tapeworm. There's another show like this coming sometime, and it looks much more fun than this.
