Discover a 90s gem with Ryan Gosling in Young Hercules, a hidden show similar to Percy Jackson in godly struggles and adventures. Both Young Hercules and Percy Jackson blend Greek mythology with unique storylines, appealing to different age groups with similar themes. Gosling's Hercules and Scobell's Percy share humor and complex family dynamics, making Young Hercules a great watch while waiting for Percy Jackson season 2.
As Percy Jackson and the Olympians gears up for season 2, those who enjoyed the show should check out a hidden 1990s gem starring none other than Ryan Gosling. Similarly, the young hero in Gosling's Young Hercules struggles with coming into his powers and godly heritage.

The '90s were full of shows that shared more than a few key elements. They often had outlandish premises, steeped in science fiction or fantasy tropes. They were usually developed to hit syndication and lasted for years in reruns. Many of these shows eventually became cult favorites or outright pop culture phenomenons. A key example of this is Xena: Warrior Princess, which featured Lucy Lawless' titular heroine battling the forces of evil. Ironically, Xena started as a spin-off from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys — and over the years it would grow to outclass Hercules due to its lead as well as several other factors.

The '90s saw an explosion of genre TV — and many of the shows of that era became pop culture phenomenons. X-Men: The Animated Series and Spider-Man: The Animated Series brought Marvel's heroes to life long before the onslaught of superhero films. Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager injected new life into the Trek universe. Xena: Warrior Princess wound up becoming a vastly superior show to its flagship series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. But the biggest breakout of the '90s has to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Its titular character Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) faced all manner of supernatural threats while also dealing with real-world problems. Sometimes those problems even overlapped, as the mix of witty and clever writing led to a number of monsters representing all of mankind's real-life woes.

Actor Kevin Sorbo, after promoting a children’s book by lashing out at gender-affirming care for minors, has denied the new release is “anti-lgbtq,” saying a blogger who posted a link to an interview with him “has no clue what he’s talking about.”
Sorbo said in a story published Monday by The Christian Post that his children’s book, “The Test of Lionhood,” is about “letting boys become boys to hopefully become men and strong men, strong providers for families as they grow up.”
But the “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” star also quickly took aim at gender-affirming care for minors in the interview, comparing it to “these transgenders going in and racing against women in sports now, boxing matches.”
“It’s just crazy to me,” he added.
“You know what?” Sorbo continued. “I’m all for [anyone] wanting to become transgender [as an adult]. I’m not bashing that world. I’ve been in Hollywood for 40 years.

Andromeda, created by Gene Roddenberry, shares connections with Star Trek, including executive producer Majel Barrett, but the two series never crossed over. Andromeda was originally conceived by Roddenberry decades before it aired, and it was a successor to his other posthumous project, Earth: Final Conflict. While Andromeda and Star Trek differ in setting, time period, and societal structure, there are some intriguing similarities, such as the introduction of space travel by Vulcan and Verdran species.
Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda has a handful of connections to the Star Trek franchise beyond their shared creator. Starring former Hercules: The Legendary Journeys star Kevin Sorbo, the series aired between 2000 and 2005 on the Global Television Network in Canada and in broadcast syndication in the US. Andromeda was, therefore, airing concurrently with Star Trek: Enterprise but they never crossed over with each other. This is because Andromeda was never produced as a Star Trek show, despite...

Former Hercules star Kevin Sorbo called Hollywood men “bumbling, useless idiots” with a poor understanding of masculinity.
In an essay written for Fox News, Sorbo takes aim at actors Timothee Chalamet and Billy Porter, saying they are contributing to a crisis in masculinity.
“Society today seriously misunderstands masculinity… On the one hand, we love to normalize androgynous, Billy Porter-type men who sport skirts and poofy dresses… GQ‘s 2019 best-dressed man, Timothée Chalamet, for example, often wears clothes that your grandfather wouldn’t have been caught dead dressed like Chalamet,” Sorbo stated.
He also lambasted male tropes, particularly criticizing sitcoms.
“To me, it goes back to even sitcoms. You look at sitcoms over the last 30 years, the guy, the husband’s always kind of fat and dumpy, the mom’s kind of hot. And then they got the teenage kids, and all they do is belittle a father. It’s this...

Barbie's very own Ken, Ryan Gosling, isn't a stranger to playing iconic characters. Now known for his standout roles in movies like The Notebook (2004), Lars and the Real Girl (2007), Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011), and La La Land (2016), he was director Greta Gerwig's first choice to play the role of Barbie's long-term boyfriend. From romance to subversive to action, Gosling's never stuck to just one type of film. And while he's looking to create a lasting impression playing the famous himbo, he took on a bigger role early in his career.
For its one-season, 50-episode run, Gosling played the titular character in the Fox Kid Network's Young Hercules (1998-1999). The show follows the demigod as he trains at the academy for warriors in Ancient Greece. Gosling was only 17 when he was cast, but this most certainly wasn't his first time in front of the camera.

Lucy Lawless’ beloved character from Xena: Warrior Princess gets an amazing cosplay treatment, complete with her signature weaponry. Originally conceived as a disposable villain in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Lawless’ character became so popular that producers opted to create her own spinoff series. Running for six seasons between 1995 and 2001, Xena: Warrior Princess would go on to eclipse the popularity of the original show, which spawned it and transformed the spinoff’s titular heroine into a pop-culture icon.
A recent cosplay image shared by Lauren Gianna on Instagram evokes Lawless’ battle-hardened warrior. Check out the image below:

Devoted entertainment buffs enjoy spotting hidden messages and deciphering symbols in movies, series, and video clips. Whether it’s a director cameo, a reference to past work or a celebrity nemesis, a common object, or a background character, Easter eggs come in all forms and sizes: a shirt, an insinuation in a line, a poster slapped on a bedroom wall, a piece of jewelry… and sometimes a vehicle. Mega-star Taylor Swift comes to mind as a prime example; she is always dropping hints about her other songs, her loved ones, and those who have wronged her. It’s simply another way for any artist or creator to leave their distinctive mark, while perpetuating a tradition. And an American filmmaker as distinctive as Sam Raimi has made it a point to leave his decaying Oldsmobile, or its replica, in most of his movies.

It was a time of myth and legend. A time of ancient gods. It was the ‘90s and some of the biggest shows on TV were Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, starring Kevin Sorbo, and its spinoff Xena: Warrior Princess, starring Lucy Lawless. Following the exploits of heroes loosely inspired by Greco-Roman mythology, both series ran for six seasons in syndication and were so popular that other companies in the entertainment industry were looking to cash in.
One of them was Saban Entertainment, most famous for creating the mega hit Power Rangers. According to longtime Saban Entertainment producer Robert Hughes, who spoke to this author in 2013 about his time working at Saban, the company was intrigued by the idea of doing a “juvenile version” of Hercules and Xena. The hope was that a series could be developed that was different enough but strongly reminiscent of those shows. The problem was that...

The Netflix series Wednesday has become a hit for the streamer. In large part, this stems from Jenna Ortega’s inspired turn as the title character. Through her the venerable Addams Family franchise has gained new life for a new generation of fans.
There are, however, a number of other classic fantasy TV series that could prove quite fruitful if anyone should do a reboot in the style of Wednesday. While some of these could focus on teenage characters, others could simply provide a more humorous, ironic take on the series as it was envisaged during its original run.

On the 20th anniversary of the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Boys pokes fun at Karl Urban’s role in the blockbuster fantasy film. Originally released on December 18, 2002, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was the second film in Peter Jackson’s critically acclaimed adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy trilogy. The film would also serve as Urban’s first major breakout film role, where he played Éomer, the exiled nephew of the King of Rohan, Théoden (played by Bernard Hill). Urban would also return to the role in the trilogy’s final installment, 2003’s The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

One might think that Karl Urban starred in his first fantasy role when he played Éomer in Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, but that is not the case. Although Jackson's trilogy was Urban's first high-profile fantasy role, the actor kickstarted his career with the role of Cupid in the television series, "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys." He also appeared in the show's popular spin-off series, "Xena: Warrior Princess," in which he played the role of Julius Caesar. Since then, Urban has come a long way in terms of playing key roles in high-fantasy and sci-fi offerings, including "Pathfinder," the "Star Trek" reboots, "The Chronicles of Riddick," and "Doom."
How does Karl Urban approach his roles when preparing for them? In a 1998 interview, right after the success of "Hercules" and "Xena," Urban talked about his approach to characters, which has since developed into a core principle for his work.

Mahal Empire’s newest film Devil’S Knight stars Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys), Isabelle Urganci (Bermuda Island), and Eric Roberts (The Pope of Greenwich Village).
In the medieval world of Veroka, monsters and demons alike roam and terrorize humankind. The Bone Devil has plagued the Kingdom of Remény for years. After a group of trackers fails to kill the creature, King Samuel decides to bring in an elite group of monster hunters. These hunters must use every skill they have obtained from around the globe to destroy this ancient evil. Will they be enough, or will the Bone Devil continue its reign of terror?
Isabelle Urganci recently gave this comment about the film’s director, Adam Werth. “Adam is an amazing and talented person to work with. He is a kind person, but a firm director who knows what he wants and how to get it out of his cast members.

Before Karl Urban was in "The Boys," he played characters who love swords and shields as much as Billy Butcher loves killing supes. There's his role as Skurge in "Thor: Ragnarok" and as Éomer in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, as well as the box-office dud "Pathfinder" or any of his various appearances in the Riddick films as Vaako. The reason for Urban's casting in this niche probably has something to do with the two television series that make up a large part of his early career: "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and "Xena: Warrior Princess."
Although Urban first appeared in "Hercules" as Cupid in the season 3 episode "The Green Eyed Monster," he's better known for the recurring character Julius Caesar in the spin-off "Xena". The actor also played two other guest roles in "Xena": the father-drugging psychopath Mael and the nomadic human Kor.

For the past three decades, Karl Urban has been a regular face in genre productions. He first came to international attention for "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and "Xena: Warrior Princess" — across these shows, he played four different roles, including Julius Caesar and Cupid. He's since enjoyed a steady film career, either as supporting characters or heavies; he's just a bit too sinister to be a leading man.
However, that same presence is why his return to TV, as Billy Butcher on "The Boys," has been so successful. So, what was it that drew him to not just acting, but screen acting in particular? Let's find...

With Disney already deep into post-production on a live-action retread of “The Little Mermaid,” and currently filming a controversial “Snow White” remake starring “West Side Story” star Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, the Mouse House isn’t slowing down. It was announced yesterday that British director Guy Ritchie will helm an upcoming live-action redo of the 1997 Disney animated feature, “Hercules.”
Disney’s “Hercules” tells the story of the eponymous character (voiced in the original by Tate Donovan) and Greek god. Living among mortals, Hercules becomes determined to reclaim his god-like status, becoming a quasi-celebrity in the process. Along the way he falls in love with the acerbic Meg (voiced by Susan Egan) and must defeat Hades (voiced by James Woods), the God of the Underworld.
Ritchie has brought success to Disney with a live-action remake before. He directed the 2019 reboot of “Aladdin,” starring Will Smith. The feature would go on...

During the mid-1990s, the Greek demi-god Hercules was having a moment. The Sam Raimi-produced television series “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” was quite popular at the time and Disney released their own animation feature film, “Hercules” which, similar to previous outings like “Beauty & The Beast” and “Aladdin,” mixed adventure with musical elements.
Now, in the spirit of remaking animated classics as live-action films and making extra bank, Disney has finally selected a director to helm yet another one of their animation-based live-action projects, this time focusing on a new film version of “Hercules.” This version comes from The Russo Brothers, produced via Agbo.

Here's a well-known film fact among fans of director Sam Raimi's oeuvre: adding Bruce Campbell to something automatically makes it better. The actor got his start in Raimi's "The Evil Dead" and has starred in quite a few of his longtime friend's movies and TV shows since, including most of the "Evil Dead" franchise and stints as the King of Thieves, Autolycus, on the Raimi-produced "Xena: The Warrior Princess" and "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys." Campbell and Raimi grew up together, making home movies and honing their craft, and as such Raimi has included Campbell cameos in almost all of his productions to honor their decades-long friendship.

Kevin Sorbo claims he recently made “a scene in public” by refusing to put on a mask at a coffee shop. It isn’t clear if this actually happened, but it is true that Sorbo caused another scene… on Twitter.
Sorbo, who it must be said did not provide photographic or video evidence of the event, said on Tuesday that during a recent visit to Starbucks in Los Angeles, the staff asked him to put on a mask. That would be because Los Angeles County recently brought back indoor mask mandates as Covid-19 cases rise.
Here’s how the “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” actor described what happened next. “I’m not proud of this but i just made a scene in public for the first time in my life. I walked into Starbucks and they asked me to put a mask on. I yelled this is Bs. I turned around and walked out.

When it comes to icons of the horror genre, today marks the 63rd birthday of one that stands head and shoulder above many - especially if that head has been dismembered with a chainsaw and lofted high on the end of a boomstick. In a time of ancient gods, warlords, and kings, a land in turmoil cried out for a hero. But they got a Potsie. Hello sunshine, goodbye rain. First of all, sorry if this bursts anyone’s bubble, but sadly Xena: Warrior Princess is not a ‘real’ character from Greek myth. Whereas Hercules and Iolaus from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys are both important characters from Greek mythology, the three most important characters in Xena: Warrior Princess – Xena, Gabrielle, and Callisto – are all original characters with entirely original stories.
Xena does have things in common with some characters from Greek myth. Most obviously, the Amazons are a ‘real’ Greek myth – not a real people, but a mythical tribe who appear in numerous stories from Greek mythology. They were described as a tribe of warrior women, who cut off one breast to make it easier to shoot arrows – oddly enough, the show left out that detail!
The closest non-Amazon character to Xena is probably Atalanta, a huntress who killed centaurs with arrows (with both breasts intact), won a wrestling...

Xena fans, It's time to celebrate. It's been 25 years since a mighty princess, forged in the heat of battle, arrived on TV with the debut of cult classic Xena: Warrior Princess. When the first-run syndication series arrived on Sept. 4, 1995, it introduced the world to its titular heroine (played by Lucy Lawless) and her quest for redemption for a past littered with sins committed against the innocent. And when devoted sidekick Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) was thrown into the mix, one of the most beloved—if never officially consummated—LGBTQ partnerships on TV was born. The character of Xena first appeared in the TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys as part of a three-episode plot that was supposed to have Xena die in the third episode. However, Xena became such a fan-favorite character that the producers decided not only that she would live, but that she would go on to have her own spin-off TV series titled Xena: Warrior Princess. This series went on to surpass its predecessor in both popularity and ratings.

Ever since Netflix's The Witcher, about a monster hunter, a princess, and a mage premiered, the memes have been as bountiful as the amount of times Geralt goes "Hmm." The eight-part fantasy series, which has been described as a cross between Game of Thrones and the 90s show Hercules: The Legendary Journeys has proven to be a winner among both fans of the video games and novels surrounding the famous witcher.
Each episode, Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) saves a new town from a supernatural bully, receiving coin for his kill and material for a legendary ballad from his bard Jaskier. The circumstances the pair find themselves in are often unintentionally comical, which makes the self-serious nature of the show that much funnier. Geralt isn't known for his sense of humor, but even he'd have to crack a smile at some of these memes. Here are the best so far!
