The show was canceled in 1999. Shawn and Marlon Wayans made "Scary Movie" the next year. At its climax, Shawn's character seems to break the fourth wall by emotionally stating "The Wayans Brothers was a good-ass show! And we didn't even get a final episode!"
In the booth at the front of Pops' Diner is a picture of actor John Witherspoon and David Letterman. They were real-life best friends for over 45 years from their days doing stand-up in Los Angeles. Letterman was Witherspoon's son J.D.'s godfather and a frequent guest on Letterman's talk shows throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Letterman also spoke at Witherspoon's funeral.
Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and John Witherspoon are the only cast members to appear in every episode of the series.
Throughout the entire series, the brothers' mother has only been mentioned, never seen.
Pops (John Witherspoon) and Dee (Anna Maria Horsford) also play married couple Mr. and Mrs. Jones, Craig's (Ice Cube) parents.
