**SPOILERS** Very uneven in parts but still unique and interesting movie about involuntary organ donations on the part of some very disturbed persons. Who feel that their the modern versions of Robin Hood, taking from the healthy and giving to the sickly.

Movie stuntman Billy Castal, Jeff Wincott, is out with his friends at the local bar looking to have a good time. Seeing this knock-out of a woman Angel, Christna Cox, Billy makes a play for her, after he floored a patron who tried to violently grab her. Like magic she takes him up to her hotel-room gives the somewhat startled young man a drink and all at once Billy passes out cold.

Awakening from his sleep Billy finds out to his shock that hes been surgically opened up with his right kidney removed! At the hospital the doctor Lucy Flynn, Machelle Johnson, treating Billy says that whoever did the operation on him know what he, or she, was doing. It's was also found out that whoever did this outrage wore contacts, a lens was found stuck under Billy's stitches, and worked in a prison since the stitches that sew Billy up are only used by doctors in state penitentiaries.

The film has a lot of false suspects to who actually did this hatched job on Billy which stretches it's plot really thin and makes Billy into an almost paranoid schizophrenic. Billy attacks anyone he as much as suspects was responsible for his unwanted and illegal operation. Whoever did in Billy later does the same thing to former collage basketball player Daryl Chambers, Falconer Abraham. Daryl being picked up at a bar by Sue,Ellen Dublin, who like Angle worked for the criminal organ donor outfit, gets him knocked out, with a glass of spiked champaign, in her motel room. Sue has a surgeon and staff wheel in an operating unite and do a job on Daryl by removing one of Daryl's pink and healthy kidneys. Unlike Billy Daryl has a very weak heart and never survived the operation.

Billy tracks down one of the people that operated on him at the lab that handled a blood test he, like Daryl, took nurse Talia Green,Karen Waddell. Talia takes off like a house on fire at just the sight of Billy. Going to Talia's home Billy finds that she's dead from a drug overdose that's later determined by the police to have been forced on her.

It now becomes obvious that whoever's responsible for Daryl's and Talia's murder and Billy's stolen kidney is working at the local hospital and that's where things start to really get mixed up. Billy, get involved in some crazy and mind-boggling shell game as to who in the hospital is responsible for these outrageous crimes that end with Billy, now at gunpoint, having the killer demand that he donate his second kidney! The kidney is for some bright and deserving 16 year-old Mexican boy who desperately needs it!

All right for a straight to video movie "The Donor" does get a little carried away with itself by just trying to be too slick in trying to keep it's audience guessing to who the killer/operator is. Making everyone in it, with the exception of victims Billy & Daryl, suspects that takes a lot away from the real villain when you finally get to realize just who he, or she, really is.

It wants to say that the well most precious one of the human being is not gold? Therefore I wanted a film that approached this subject... After to be drugged, one stunt-man has his right kidney removed by a surgeon that judges herself a "God" and that can make a "natural election" of who can and of who cannot live. The film is indeed interesting and awaken interest of those people who already have watched thousands films (for instance: I already have watched almost 10.000 movies) and search different subjects of the others. Carried through well, with a reasonable cast, in which it detaches the beauty of the mad surgeon (Michelle Johnson) the film deserves my vote: 5 (regular) in a scale of 1 to 10.

THE DONOR is an indie thriller that hails from Canada and is based on that classic urban legend about a guy waking up the morning after a one-night stand only to discover that he's missing a kidney. The cool twist here is that the victim is hard-ass action man of the 1990s, Jeff Wincott, so you get to watch him beat up a few folk and engage in a couple of low rent action sequences as he strives to uncover the conspiracy surrounding his missing organ. Like so many '90s-era straight-to-video thrillers, the emphasis seems to be on perfunctory sex scenes instead of suspense, but I like Wincott here and the plot moves along at a fair old clip.
  • Lot of good reasons why this was rated R. I love it. I am used to Michael Wincott though, not this one. But Collins popping into it was good. I just have the shoddy VHS and haven't found it on DVD yet, but i liked it. Jeff is almost as good as Michael, but it was still a good movie.

    Warning: Spoilers
This movie is really worth a look. It isn't particularly gripping, or funny, and really it's hard for me to describe what exactly I liked about this film...yet I liked it anyway. Perhaps it's the originality, for it's not every day that you hear that someone has a kidney stolen, or maybe it is the ethical twist, since the organs are only taken from healthy people and then immediately put to good use. In that sense, the "villain" in this film has an honourable motive, at least, and maybe that is what makes this film work. As you can see, I just can't pinpoint why "The Donor" is a good movie, but it is. See for yourself.
  • I must say I like this a lot Jeff Wincott does his best Acting Role ever it's not a Martial Arts Movie but give it a watch
  • Getting drugged and awakening to find you're short an organ is a creepy theme of urban legend that's been tackled in at least three b-movies I've seen, but 'The Donor' might stand out most for offering Jeff Wincott a role different from his usual breed. Some light mystery, rampant paranoia is the name of the game here. The only thing holding it back from being better is red herrings galore.

Billy Castle (Jeff Wincott) goes on vacation, meets an attractive woman at a bar and awakens to be missing a kidney. He's treated in the aftermath by Dr. Lucy Flynn (Michelle Johnson) who continues to stick by his side as he won't let this injustice go. It sidelines his job as a movie stuntman & torments him as he goes down one dead end after another looking for answers and trying to find out who's responsible.

Some viewers were turned off by Billy's growing obsessive nature, but I found it refreshing. I wouldn't get over such a thing or easily give the guilty culprits a pass so it's fun seeing him being somewhat paranoid. It's everyone being a suspect, the bad guy's "Robin Hood" motivation & the police not giving a damn that I could have done without.

'The Donor' doesn't have a high score and I get why - I hope to never see a chase scene on bicycles again - but it accomplished it's mission being a fun time. It's not the typical martials arts or action vehicle for Wincott, but I enjoyed the premise and the ending was decent.
