The original Broadway production of "The Heidi Chronicles" by Wendy Wasserstein opened at the Plymouth Theater in New York on March 9, 1989, ran for 622 performances and won the 1989 Tony Award for the Best Play. Peter Friedman recreated his stage role in the movie version. Wendy Wasserstein also wrote the teleplay for this filmed production.
