fun if you're in the mood
What you see is what you get. Don't come in expecting anything but a low-brow stoner comedy. This is not Animal House. That was over 20 years ago - standards have dropped - National Lampoon ain't what she used to be. But it's still very much enjoyable, especially if you can relate to the knuckle-headed activities presented. It's dumb fun for drunks, stoners, and those who dare to be stupid. My only real complaints: 1. the whole Dags/Lisa romance - Who cares? I know that the formula calls for it but it was just a waste of time, get to the gags already! Lisa in particular was a completely uninteresting character. 2. Not enough Nicole DeBoer! Oh man is she hot in this and yet she's relegated to the background.

Jeremy Renner's first feature film.

Quotes

Principal Todd Moss: It's now officially 8:01 people, let's move it!

Goofs

The bus carrying the kids seems to be traveling south because they pass through Pennsylvania on the way to Washington D.C., but on arrival, the overhead shot shows the bus coming north on Arlington Memorial Bridge near the Lincoln Monument. The re-route doesn't seem likely considering the rigid itinerary Principal Moss is keeping.

Alternate Versions

The TV network version has new scenes which include:

  • An additional scene on the school bus with Steve trying to get on Dags's and Reggie's good side with non-alcoholic beer and Miosky responding by spitting it in Steve's face after sipping some of it.
  • A scene in the quarry after Travis's escape from the reservoir where his inflatable life-sized doll, Lt. Urura, deflates.
  • An entirely new ending set at Fairmount High's graduation ceremony with the President in attendance. Travis crashes the proceedings by subduing Steve and stands on the stage and threatens to blow up the auditorium with dynamite strapped to his body. After Reggie finally tells Dags that Travis is the once who has been chasing them throughout the movie, they manage to talk him out of detonating the suicide bomb, and Travis is disarmed and taken away by Secret Service agents. The film then ends on a cliff-hanger when Dags and Reggie squabble over using Travis's gun which accidentally goes off while the President, Principal Moss and a Secret Service agent are in the line of fire. A person is hit and falls (the film doesn't show who). Dags and Reggie close the movie with their refrain "uh-oh" (implying that they might have accidentally shot the President).
