The movie (aka "The Gaslight Addition") was actually written about a town in Indiana named Winchester, and its gaslight addition. The author of the story I. Marlene King grew up there, as did the director Robert Wise, in vastly different years. Winchester declined to have their name associated with the movie, so the name became Shelby, but later Winchester began to preserve areas mentioned in the movie.

When the three girls waves the Wormer's clothes in front of them and say they're about to steal them, Sam has her white hairband around her right wrist. As they turn and run through the woods, it's gone.
The version shown on ABC in late 2002 (as well as the versions shown on the Superstation and TNT) omits the scene where Samantha's mother makes them all hide under the kitchen table while Cloris Leachman's character bangs on the front door.
